"FDA-authorized under Emergency Use Authorization", under Emergency Use? really?

Not surprising of course...but data looking good. This is quickly becoming the way to make effective vaccines. Thank you, science!

Little late. BQ.1.1 and XBB are taking over. These vaccines can’t keep up.

That’s why I don’t understand why ppl focus on a vaccine-centered approach, especially since they don’t stop infection/transmission

"showed a substantial increase in the Omicron BA.4/BA.5 neutralizing antibody response."
Will such a vague positive assessment have any real impact? That Pfizer can't be bothered to provide any quantitative details of the neutralizing response isn't exactly reassuring.

I guess you'll have to just wait for the upcoming 1 month update.

Seems pretty cautious and vague for a press release. Are the data really that good?

Luckily, I got the vaccine 3 weeks ago, ahead of the current wave.
But I know, even with this booster, I also need to be caution.
We all need preventing spreading of the virus. So #MaskUp is important as well.

Distance, ventilation and/or air filtration. HEPA filtration units are a fantastic business opportunity for the ambitious. New world, new opportunities.

Glad I was able to boost with Novavax. Addresses all current and future variants - and no nasty side effects.

Keep your masks on. My family tested positive 3 weeks after getting the bivalent booster. Unfortunately thought we had some short term immunity

What exactly is the benefit to my immune system of including the original Wuhan strain in this shot?

I'm sure it would be much better as a two-dose series, even though that's not being pursued yet.
Even more critically, further updates should be in the pipeline. The virus is speedily updating itself. Until 2nd generation vaccines are developed, this is our path.

Ah yet another Pfizer press release. Based on a tiny sample one week later post bivalent jab. Same ole same ole.

If BQ1.1 or XBB, bivalemt vaccine will not help at least in the antibody front, is that what the escape data is showing?

Unless they can deliver sterilizing immunity (which they don’t) the focus should be on infection prevention (masks, less social engagement)

Masks (preferably N95), ventilation, isolating Covid+, timely vaxx (my province is doing none of the above, not even 5 days).

Pfizer could announce that their vaccines will cause recipients to lay golden eggs and nobody would dispute it.

BA4/BA5 wave is over, it is now replaced by vastly different strains that will largely escape this new vaccine.
May have been useful 6-9 months ago during the BA4/5 wave but a waste of time now.
Get Novavax for variant agnostic protection.

My wife and I have both developed symptoms and tested positive for covid 15 days after receiving the new bivalent booster. We are 87 years old and in very good health for our age. We have avoided Covid until now. While from New York City, we were infected in Massachusetts.

“Data suggest…anticipated to provide better protection than original”. Are you kidding me?

Do we have a sense of how effective the new vaxx is against infection? (and to all the trolls out there, YES I CARE ABOUT INFECTION bc I don't want to get #LongCovid or kill or disable anyone)

Highest amount of antibody don't really translates more protection.
Anibody levels alone likely don’t tell the complete story.
Neutralising antibodies are like chewing gum stopping unlocking a door,
are not effective against heavily mutated omicron variant .

My husband and I both received Moderna bivalent Sept 16 and tested positive October 6. It is our first Covid infection. Thankfully it was mild and we didn’t take Paxlovid because we were traveling in the United Kingdom.

We seem to have got our sequencing a bit muddled up. There has to be decent human data before approval, no?
