The connection between the backplane and the motherboard or the host control card is only a SATA data transmission cable. This cable does not contain the control signal of the LED. Therefore, in the definition of SATA HDD, SATA Power Pin11 is reserved for the staggered spinup/activity indication of the HDD. The HDD backplane of any NAS or server chassis is based on this specification as the indicator light of the HDD.
If your HDD tray cannot display this LED light, we recommend to check with HDD manufacturer if your HDD has a reserved LED signal that can be driven by SATA power pin11.
