Williamson commented, "After the darkness of the last year in the DCU, there is no character better suited to lead DC into the light than Superman. It’s an understatement to say I’m honored to be writing DC’s flagship series. I’m very excited to take Clark Kent on a fun, pulp style adventure in Metropolis against his greatest villains. We’re also going to be introducing new concepts and new challenges for the Man of Steel and to be doing it with wonderful partners like Jamal Campbell and Nick Dragotta is a dream come true. Every page explodes with awesome energy. The Superman line that Tom, Phillip and I are putting together with DC is going to lead the way for an exciting 2023."

Superman and Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths

The ongoing Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths event, which recently released its fifth issue, has prominetely featured two different Supermen. Clark Kent -- DC's flagship character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster who first appeared in 1938's Action Comics #1 -- has largely been absent from Earth Prime since the events of Justice League #75, when he and his fellow superheroes all suffered a terrible defeat at the hands of Pariah and the Dark Army.

While Superman has been stuck in a separate world created by Pariah that he eventually managed to escape in Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #5, his son, Jon, has taken on his father's mantle and led a team of heroes to defend the planet from Deathstroke. Jon Kent has also starred in his own solo series, Superman: Son of Kal-El, which began in 2021 from writer Tom Taylor. DC also announced that, while Superman: Son of Kal-El is ending after it's 18th issue, Taylor will pen a new six-issue miniseries starring Jon, Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent, which features art by Clayton Henry.
