here is the first draft of a list I've been working on for fun comparing the amount of time between Japanese and Western releases of JRPGs across the genre's 35+ year history, for no reason in particular, in the form of a spreadsheet, also for no reason in particular

NISA spitting on Falcom fans is nothing new or particularly interesting at this point, Iβm just surprised they donβt have a strict moratorium on mentioning Kuro on social media accounts until they get around to the official in 2026, that seems like itβd be damage control 101

hereβs a view link to the actual sheet, I figured taking a screencap from a 4k monitor would be enough to escape compression and it looks fine on my end but guess I was wrong

Yo, not a joke, do you have a higher res version of the image (granted, it's probably Twitter compressing the hell out of it) like, meme aside, this is actually pretty interesting

changed the wording of that, I meant to say itβs still relevant to the conversation because it was a new IP with small reach despite being from a major publisher (since I was trying to avoid just cherry-picking Square games) and not that the game itself isnβt relevant, oops

Interesting spreadsheet. It proves pretty solidly how Falcom does not care at all about its western fanbase, despite saying otherwise. Hopefully they actually let NISA actually start working on their localizations before release like a normal developer sometime in the future.

Atelier is like my go-to example of why NISA's localization times are unacceptable (because it's admittedly unfair to use Nintendo). Both Atelier (Gust generally) and Falcom games are niche as hell but Atelier gradually closed gaps in localization until it hit simultaneous.

I think the worst recent case tho besides Kuro is how NISA is taking longer to localize GrimGrimoire OnceMore than the time they localized the original PS2 release. Insane really.

Falcom has a bad policy of not giving western localizers scripts till after the game launches in Japan, and changed localization companies to NIS America a few years ago. NISA has progressively ruined every bit of (the small amount of) goodwill they had from fans for various

I'd recommend including Bravely Default for the Nintendo 3DS to this list. It has an interesting history in Japan and why it took 2-3 years to come to Western Audiences.

Your Disgaea 6 dates are a little off. Initial release in JP was january 2021, ntsc/pal regions june 2021. It didn't get it's worldwide playstation and pc release until june 2022 because of nintendo exclusivity in the west
