I thought inside the cathedral grounds would be a quiet place to record, not so; high levels of environmental noise. Recording Equipment: (Very basic) Sony MZ-N910, DIY XY stereo microphone using Soundman OKMII Classic capsules, OKM A3 adapter as preamp. Faux-fur windjammer.

Managed to time this right (just about) as two intercity trains pass in opposite directions at Beaulieu Road Station, back then, a lovely area of the New Forest, Hampshire. UK. (minimum editing). Sounds from the artificial waterfall at 601 Lex Ave recorded at street level, with sounds of traffic bleeding into the sounds of the water. This waterfall is relatively new and substitutes the original and much bigger artificial waterfall/fountain designed by Hideo Sasaki in the 1970s. The original goal of this waterfall feature was to "mask much of the street noise and add to the feeling that the passerby is free from the congestion of the street (1977)."

As with most places around rural Norfolk, Dersingham is also plagued with environmental noise, especially from the Tornado fighter jets from RAF Marham, and of course 'Bob the Builder' with his hammer! However, I love the sound of this clock chime; one reason for recording it at mid-day, it produces plenty of chimes! This was recorded from adjacent the lovely old tythe barn wall buttress to give a bit of natural amplification to the clock chime and block out some of the road noise. Recording...

One of three field recording tracks carried out whilst filming 'The Field Recordist' documentary, at West Acre Ford. Although this location is very rural, unfortunately there is a lot of environmental noise as you will hear, from farm machinery, fighter jets from nearby RAF Marham, and recreational dog walkers. A loud and noisy 80+ heavy goods vehicle convoy from Norwich City, treating children with special needs to a day out on the coast at Gt. Yarmouth.
