Just binged it...Holy shit. We all knew how it was going to end, but god damn if it wasn't one hell of a bloody ride getting there.

EDIT: Just a shoutout to Rebecca, man...She got friend-zoned, but she was the best ride or die.

Id say Rebecca died a fucking legend and killed by a fucking legend she's probably flexing about it on his brother in hell who got killed by someone whos taking a piss LMAO

Yeah fuck smasher indeed, Rebecca literally sacrifice herself for a fruitless love. It's really sad.

but she was the best ride or die.

Which is why she got friend zoned. With her there is no drama. David would have had an adorable, little bundle of murder that was truly loyal.

....Yep that is a cyberpunk ending. I have some bias because I love the game, but trying to disconnect that I really loved this show a lot. CDPR delivered another great story and Trigger another amazing adaptation. I know it is unlikely but I hope we get more in the future. This setting is ripe for more.

619
level 2

I wanted to wait for the DLC to replay but i think Imma just head back in rn 🤩

161
level 2

CDPR recently stated in a conference call that they are commit to the Cyberpunk Ip along with the Witcher, even outside games so yeah theres more coming for sure.

149
level 2

I was gonna say that it was a very Trigger ending. Lucy in space and staring out towards the infinite cosmos is classic Imaishi.

man.. i knew it was coming. but i cried anyway? made me fall in love with rebecca just for her to go out that way... dont get me wrong its a perfect quirky way for her to go out but i wanted her to live

im glad lucy reached her end, but seeing david in front of her had me breakdown, the shortest developed romance ive gotten so attached to

the shortest developed romance ive gotten so attached to

Same here. Amazing anime. But I can't believe I got attached so much, feeling really sad right now. LUCY, Rebecca - what are amazing characters

308
level 2

I have absolutely no clue how it's possible I got so attached to David and Lucy and their romance and holy shit is there an empty feeling after, I just miss some closure and David appearing at the end was so close to making me cry, all the shit these characters have been through it's nuts, and Lucy lives and probably has all this going through her head 24/7

I knew everything was going to go horribly wrong, so i went ahead and put all my chips last episode saying that if Rebecca lives i was gonna count it as a happy ending... then i got stomped with the reality of not even getting that... wrecked

111
level 2

I held out hope that best girl would make it to the end, only to have my hopes cruelly crushed literal minutes from the end. I need to go find a corner and have a little cry right now.

what timestamp?

Whats the point of Lucy reaching her end goal if David isn't with her, all because of his addiction for cyberwares.

I wish she had a less gruesome death, Adam smashed her pretty hard (pun intended). It broke me to see her in that state.

It’s crazy how weak Smasher is in the game. Dude is an absolute monster

464
level 2

He is much stronger after 1.5. Still not really an issue if you have a good build but thats RPGs for you.

255

Bro they build him up so much in the game and anime and his design is cool as shit but he basically a wet fart as a boss fight lmao

73

Beat him up with a dildo lol

70
level 2

he isn't weak, v is just crazy strong

20
level 2

I remember that it was really easy to outlevel him. That and he's not immune to Nethacking in the game so V can basically hide in a corner and fuck up his systems while he's screaming obscenities.

4

He isn't, people just build the most busted characters using min-maxed meta builds lol

Absolutely phenomenal work by Trigger and the story exceeded my personal expectations. I'm rather fond of bittersweet endings myself but man, this one I just can't fucking take. Main boy could have stopped at any time, he had everything right in front of him but alas. 10/10 ending broke my heart and got me a big shot of depresso

439
level 2

The ending was tragic, but I think it was a "realistic" (fitting of Night City) way to go. Kind of funny how Arasaka tower keeps ending up as the final battleground.

They mentioned in one of the earlier episodes: to become a legend in Night City, you have to die.

In ep 10, David was clearly at the end of his rope becoming a cyberpsycho. Maybe the writers could've saved him with Lucy, but it makes sense that Adam Smasher is way more powerful than a street kid with a bunch of tech. So apart from David running away with Lucy, I don't see David beating Smasher 1v1.

215

He could not have stopped. Someone was gonna find put about what lucy tried to hide sooner or later. From maine‘s death on it was set in stone, im afraid.

I kinda didn’t like that about David. Was he just addicted to cybernetics or did he truly believe he would never have side effects ?

That was a cyberpunk ending right there; go out in a blaze of glory.

Sucks that Lucy is widow'd. I was half expected to see Lucy take that helmet off to kill herself

And Rebecca is a goddamn trooper

They really nailed Adam Smasher as the Borg God. Can't forgive him for what he did to Rebecca but damn, the writers did him justice on power level.

Overall, I absolutely loved it and am rebooting for a new playthrough. I want more everything CP2077, I love the universe so much.

366
level 2

To be fair, being offed by the mythical legend Adam Smasher himself is a pretty legendary way to go out in Night City. And realistically, David was the only person that could have given Adam any kind of trouble in this show.

I mean, we all knew it would, and they weren't even shy about admitting it when he promised to take her to the moon. But out of all Trigger's adaptations, this is the tamest "We went to space" moment there's been lol.

That was so fucking sad man. As soon as they mentioned Adam, I knew it was over for them. I really wish Rebecca lived... fucking right at the end man, feels a little cheap honestly.

Almost wish this was a game so I could get the "happy" ending. lmao

255
level 2

Well she got DFA'ed by Adam fucking Smasher so... I mean if you got to die it's at least memorable. Well, ADAM isn't going to remember it as he thinks they are all just worthless meatbags, but we'll remember it.

83
level 2

she went out like her brother did

49
level 2

That would be cool. Netflix has others (Carmen Sandiego, etc) which are interactive, choose your own adventure type things.

I think the season was solid. Feels like an alternate universe of the 2077 game with an overpowered main character taking on Night City.

I had no intention to binge watch this in one night, but holy shit I just had to see this through to the end.

10 episodes, *10* fucking episodes. When the music kicked in at the end I was tearing the fuck up, but when David appears to Lucy on the moon I lost it. Fuck me what a show.

And fuck Rebecca getting gomba stomped by Smasher, I fucking loved her.

As someone not familiar with the Cyberpunk universe I didn't know what I was getting into. I did struggle to see a happy ending for all so I braced myself for everyone dies but apparently I didn't brace my self enough.

Also, Goodsmile, Trigger, CDPR, My wallet is ready. Get me some pop-up parade statues of at least Lucy, David and Rebecca. I mean fuck you've got the mould for Galo from Promare already can't take that much to change it for David.

Jesus Adam Smasher what a cameo. The dub was so well done.

Man that ending was so bittersweet and the shot of Lucy just basking in the sunlight was awesome.

What a ride.

152
level 2

really think this was just bitter ending. i get the genre of cyberpunk where only the corporation is the main winner. but look at blade runner 2049. very bittersweet ending of mc not being the mc after all and dying after the realization of joi. but it was still sweet because Deckard was reunited with the daughter. perfect cyberpunk-genre ending.

but here the only sweet we get is Lucy reaching her destination of the moon. and it's not sweet enough. david called the moon program a prison camp at the beginning or something like that, i don't remember fully. it looks really gray and void of joy. yes there's the warmth of the sun and the sight of Earth that she shared with David but its not enough. the only reason she wanted to go to the moon was out of fear. it's a cathartic thing I get it but she wasn't even being tracked down from the corporation if she didn't do all the tanaka things for david. so it's all meaningless paranoia in the end. really disappointed with this ending. needed a much better closure for my heart.

Incredible anime, watched it all in one go and its one of the rare Trigger anime where the 2nd half is better than the 1st. I expected a depressing ending just like the game but still, Rebecca didn't have to go out like that. The scene with Lucy seeing David on the moon is some of the most heart wrenching stuff ive watched in while.

Overall a solid 9/10 for me.

126

I went into it with no real hope that it was going to be anything but sub-par. Was just gonna watch it a couple episodes at a time here and there.

I ended up watching it all in one go. 😂

4
level 1

Loved the shit out of it

The anime grasped so well that feeling of night city just swallowing you all with no escape. Either die blowing up like a fire work or end up pitiful in a gutter as a no name, no inbetween.

10/10 I just hope the 10 episodes at once won't hinder its deserved popularity.

97
level 2

I just hope the 10 episodes at once won't hinder its deserved popularity.

I gotta admit, I think the way Disney (and many others) do it with an episode a week means there's more hype surrounding each episode, which as you implied can help boost popularity of good shows. There's also lots of youtube channels doing chapter-by-chapter analysis which can be fun to watch on the off days.

Then again, I imagine it must be exhausting as a content creator having to churn out so much so often.

Rebecca dying the way she did is peak Night City moment. People just die all of a sudden and for no damn reason…. Really wanted David to live, but him dying is also peak Night City moment. There are no happy endings in that shithole. Even all the game endings are pretty bleak.

But def gonna load the game and stunt on Smasher

271

People just die all of a sudden and for no damn reason….

I wouldn't say for no reason, I mean she went against Adam fucking Smasher, there's probably not many people who live after crossing paths with him.

3

‘I really wanna stay at your house’ hits different now after finishing the anime. I knew the ending was inevitable; dude literally has a drink named after him in Afterlife. And it’s only appropriate for how Cyberpunk is, how Night City is.

Whilst we wish Lucy and David could’ve had a happy ending, it just wouldn’t fit the Cyberpunk setting. Even in-game, doesn’t matter what route you chose, your character is fucked one way or another.

I’ll just enjoy the bittersweet feeling of this song and drown in my post-show depression.

215

same, at least for couple of days, maybe more. Not sure if this is good or not. I even opened reddit to check if I'm the only one so badly affected by some series. Maybe they should have left someone else to stay alive with Lucy. Because this ending is even more bitter than if everyone had died.

Man Rebecca fucking died, there goes my happy ending... yep there it is, that familiar feeling of sadness and emptiness, it is not a pyrrhic victory, but not quite a defeat, however it leaves you feeling this hollow in your chest, that's how you know you experienced some real cyberpunk

That's a corporate dystopia alright, fuck

58

The car and the weapon animation at the last 3 episode changed from realistic to expressing emissions and keep that adrenaline up in your brain. Most of Trigger anime doing this at the end where they abandoned realism for the sake of art story telling of emotion

77

You knew how it was going to end before episode 1 if you played the game, the Afterlife serves the David Martinez after all. At least we know why Rebecca's shotgun spawns there ingame

139
level 2

r/anime is never gonna admit it but certain shows are WAY better to binge watch and Netflix format is not just objectively worse. Shows like AoT are way better for weekly drops because there's usually a lot to discuss and talk about between each episode, but with shows like e.g Haikyuu it feels like shit to watch 1/10th of of a volleyball game then wait a full week for another tenth. Demon Slayer also feels way better to watch in one sitting because watching two characters fight, wait a week, watch them continue to fight, then wait another week, then watch them continue the same fight is just not it. I don't think Mugen Train would have been as positively recieved as a season.

This show definitely benefits from binge watching, i would not have as much interest if i had to wait a full week between episodes. I'd just forget about it then watch it in a few months or something when i remember it exists.

This was an amazing binge. For all the faults of the cyberpunk game, the world it builds is rich and amazing and the anime brings it out all too well.

While someone who hasn't played the game could go into this I feel like having played the game did enhance my experience by having an understanding of the world and Night City.

Its a good advertisement for the game, makes me go back and wanna play it.

41
level 1

Really does confirm how good the cyberpunk world truly is for the stories it can tell.

It was just one truly epic 3 and a half hour movie in the guise of a tv series. Trigger were such a good choice to animate it too. Their brand of over-the-top action and just fun, loveable characters just fit perfectly. (RIP Rebecca)

It’s nothing to deep and the story went about as expected but it was still one hell of a ride along the way. A strong 8/10.

It ends exactly as you'd expect from this type of story and I think they executed it beautifully. Honestly, this had me crying a lot more than I expected, more than any other anime, show, game, or movie I have seen. I knew it was coming but man, it was hard to watch without the tears rolling down my face. Course the music definitely sets the mood for that too, and that is one area I always had to give credit to CDPR for, the music in the series is top notch and very memorable. It has that thing where when you hear it, it makes you want to play the game again.

Also, why kill best girl Rebecca? Dang it! XD, I have a whole new reason to want to kill Adam Smasher in the game now.

With all that said, David is a much better character than V, in my opinion. And watching this, I do kind of wish the game was more similar to this anime, where you get to run with a crew as fun as these characters before things go sour. The game often just feels like things go sour right away, and then you are just fighting against it all the way till your dead. It almost feels pointless to make connections during that point in the game because you are dying, but it's also the only real point in the game where you can make those connections.

But I suppose I shouldn't rant about the game here. The anime was awesome, and I have to say I am going to give it a 10/10.

59
level 2

Damn I was in the same situation as you I haven’t played the game yet so I didn’t know what will happens in the end but the anime was a masterpiece , I cried of the death of Rebecca and David but the ending, with the music and the visual was so beautiful that’s a 10/10 for me too

I didn't want to think about it at first, but yeah, it was obvious most of the main characters were going to die at the end. Sucks that Rebecca died though, she was probably my favourite character after Lucy :/

19
level 1

Seeing David and Rebecca's fate made me feel glad that [Cyberpunk 2077] we get to kill Adam Smasher as the final boss, essentially avenging them - and even more so with how in my playthrough I did it with Johnny's pistol, no less

16
level 2

You can kill him with Rebecca’s gun too, giving the best girl a well deserved revenge.

29
level 2

[Cyberpunk 2077] If you go to bed with Meredith Stout, you can get dildo-sword. Imagine the disrespect, killing Smasher with dildo.

17
level 1

Also if the game didnt for some(it did for me) then the anime should highlight how incredible the setting and world CDPR and Mike Pondsmith built with Cyberpunk, the sequel should be incredible with the lessons they learned from 2077.

16
level 1

Absolutely loved it... all the call backs to the game, the amazing use of the world and the action was great (as expected on trigger). Really didn't expect them to do a time skip but I'm glad they did.

Man the one thing this made me really dislike about the game (in retrospect) was that they have no good police system. We never really get to experience what it's like when Maxtac shows up.. hell in some cases it would be cool if we killed someone and trauma team came...

47
level 2
· 9 days ago · edited 8 days ago

If it makes it at all better they said during their last update live stream a police rework is coming including something about "watching out for maxtac". It would be amazing if they somehow included trauma as well.

28
level 1

Trigger never miss do they? Really fucking good show

Rebecca deserved better (although there are no happy endings in Night City)

Lucy needs adding to the game ASAP, I will accept nothing less

84
level 2

There was still her corpse and no call for flatline so we can still make it up shit to revive her

24
level 2

I definitely want Lucy's story to continue in some form, but I don't know what that'd take. I can't imagine we ever get another series like this from CDPR X Trigger, and it might be weird to see her in a game. Maybe we get a comic? Or maybe it's better if it's just left open-ended and bittersweet. That's okay, too.

If they made David into a cyborg just because of his strong chemistry with cyberwares, that would have even been more sadder ending.

The show definitely made me want to finish the game now, especially since rebecca's gun is now in it. Time to fuck up smasher.

5
level 1

What do you guys think is the main theme or message you should take away from this show? I know David's character was that he adopted other people's reasons for living, but it didn't evolve beyond what we saw in episode 2, he just took on more and more of people until it lead to his end.

It's strange, because it's like David was self-aware enough to recognize where he was heading and even saw that fate with Maine, yet he did it anyway, and he didn't seem to have some revelation of greater understanding or acceptance at the end.

I think the 'purposeless lives' that Maine & David lead is meant to represent the abstract (and literal) goal of 'reaching the top floor'. Maine didn't want to feel like he'd reached his limit in life and kept pushing to the brink of sanity. Maine's (rather abstract) flashbacks show him jogging in an endless, vast desert with no destination in sight and no other goal in mind apart from "get faster, get stronger" until it tore him apart. The road to the top has no end.

David took on his mother's wish for him to reach the top floor of the Arasaka building, and would never stop at his natural limit (no matter how gifted he was) when climbing to reach the top. Adopting Maine's dream of going beyond his cybernetic limit was only one more impossible dream for him to reach for on behalf of others. The only person with tangible goals they wanted to reach was Lucy, who called both Night City and The Moon 'a prison', yet found comfort in having that environment with limits, unlike David and Maine who both tried to 'break free'.

Which would be crazy if this analysis is correct, because its the antithesis of Trigger. Every single show by Imaishi has always been about the glory of breaking past your limits and reaching for the impossible. Maybe this story is showing the other side of that relentless drive that has characterized Trigger protagonists over the years. David doesn't get any of the glory like our other heroes, his eventful coming of age story in our point-of-view was only a small microcosm in the world of Night City.

34
level 2

My takeaway was that David gets to save someone that he loves. He gets to make an actual difference with his own hands, and that is "the impossible" in night city. The introduction is about how little power most people (and by extension david) have in night city. His mother has a dream for him to rise to the top of Arasaka, but it's not something that has any real chance of happening and David knows it. He tries his best to make her dream come true regardless and she dies a pointless death, and he's so powerless he can't even afford to bury her. He can't even defend her name against his classmates. He falls in love with someone else and decides that this time he's not going to allow their dream to be something impossible. He decides to throw it in the world's face and make it come true even if it kills him. What's his life next to that?

36
level 2

What do you guys think is the main theme or message you should take away from this show?

addiction will ruin lives. No matter why or when you picked it up. Good intentions or not, addiction will mess with you and your loved ones. Maine was running on a timer, but he was ignorant to how fast the day would come. David was done as soon as he learned that he is "special" aka resilient to implants and the repercussions. The second time he used the sentence "I guess I am special" ironically. He knew he fucked up.

also, people should talk to their loved ones more. be truthful to each other, does not matter how noble and good the reasons are to why you're being secretive. power of friendship & love is kinda real, a team or as a couple you will probably manage your shit better than trying to solo everything.

support is important, both David and Lucy wanted to do it their way - on their own, achieving a goal that would "save" the other ones life. But that is just how it goes. People can ride their high only for so long.

Ending was perfect in a Cyberpunk way. Corpo will always win, everything that is left are the legends of very few ambitious people and how they died. I honestly was scared when Lucy was raising her hand at the end. Somehow I envisioned her taking off her helmet... But that would have been to bleak, even for that setting.

5
level 2

Yeah its all about the "can't go back at this point" feeling, both maine and david saw it coming yet they keep pushing, also maybe something to do with "if I downgrade I'll lose the edge and get caught by people seeking revenge for the jobs I did" since they're criminals and shit

Fuck man this was great, just binged it and now I feel like I really have to play the game. Bought it on release, didn't like how it played and decided to shelve it until patches or mods fixed it up. I hear its much better now and I'm full ready to dive into this setting. Lucy was also like 11/10 my ideal aesthetic. I've had such a thing for white bob-cuts and punk attire since getting super into Reol years ago. Gunna have to try to recreate her as V now...

If anyone wants something to read with this kind of sci-fi cybernetics vibe I strongly recommend Rebuild World. The WN is great and the LN was picked up by JNovelClub. It goes more into the augmented suit direction, but the slums of Kugamayama feel a lot like the capitalist-anarchy of Night City.

That was absolutely incredible. Everything. The story, the characters, the animation, the soundtrack.

I had moderate expectations and it completely blew me away. I’m shocked at how good that was.

I felt like my heart was jumping out my chest the entire second half of the show. I can’t believe how attached I got to all of the characters too.

Maybe recency bias but I already think this among Trigger’s absolute best works.

Wow that was really good, knew we were never going to get a happy ending, but damn, that was kinda depressing. Im really glad trigger did the setting justice, the world was pulled straight out of the game and you could tell the creators actually cared/played the game. The action was also classic over the top trigger affair, really loved it. But its also super weird to have a trigger story that is super serious, it was a breath of fresh air even if it was a very bittersweet ending.

Also the dub was stellar, really glad they did good with that too

What a beautiful cyberpunk ending. She spent all her time in secret working so he could live a better life, just like his mom, all for nothing when he threw it away. And he, after wasting away collecting way too much power for no reason whatsoever, finally found a reason use that power and for her he could throw away everything.

10
level 2

And she seemed pretty miserable in the moon too... she couldn't even smile, until having visions of david. to me the place was shown like it wasn't all that much after all, and that lucy's place was by his side. Which was sacrificed to get her there.

9

man, I was ready for everyone to die, but even Rebecca? She has been so nice to everyone that I thought they at least would spare her 😭😭

Fuck you Imaishi and Trigger for tricking me into watching Gurren Lagen again. Just for once let them be happy and stop making me cry!

Dude, knowing Japanese while having the subs on (due to ingame terms) made watching it almost a chore.

Not deal breaking since catching those translation "mistakes" ( I know they're basically just pasting the English script) felt like good practice.

The show was still fucking amazing. Need to watch it in English next.

4

This is an ending I knew to expect from cyberpunk. I knew there are no happy endings in Night City. It still hit me like a tank regardless. Completely broke down crying, such a short amount of time to get attached but man they did it again. First the introduction of cyberpunk and now this. They keep breaking my heart and I'm all for it.

6
level 1

I very much knew where this was going, but I'm so bummed out now :( Didn't expect the ending to hit that hard to be honest. Ultra tragic love stories just seem to destroy me.

I can't believe I binged all that so quick but I couldn't stop. Amazing amazing show. 10/10 I'm floored by how much I loved that. I feel like my brain went on a roller coaster I need to lay down now.

7

Never got to finish the game but after binging this I definitely wanna strap back in and relive night city. Wish David got to make it out. He was a choom for real. Or at least Rebecca :(

7
level 1

I knew it wouldn’t happen but fuck i wanted David and Lucy to find a way to make it. I feel like as I get older I prefer at least a partially happy ending. 11/10 for the show though makes me hunger for more cyberpunk. Even busted out the old CCG collection to look through the characters from the card game that’s now like 20 years old lol

Trigger legit saving anime out here huh. What an incredible show...

I absolutely loved the game, and the feeling it gave me. The series did the same thing, I'm just rewatching it. (First time was yesterday) It also shattered my heart the same way the game did. We all knew it was coming, because it's simply how things go in night city. You fly, and you fall. Really, really, really good job - i can't wait for more.

It sucks, but deep down I knew we weren't ever gonna get a happy ending where majority of the gang survives, Cyberpunk's just that kind of world.

I still didn't wanna acknowledge the impending bittersweet doom after Pilar went pow, then Dorio and Maine... dangit Kiwi and worst of all, Rebecca who was MVP.

Sigh.

Oh David.

Fantastic music all the way though, I hope the OST comes out soon

Now to wait for my emotions to recover from this fantastic joyride

Never had any doubt he would die since he promised not to die on her just before the credits that have a song about letting someone down sung by a man over shots of Lucy alone. But man it still fucking hurts.

After watched Ep.10, Edgerunners is the best Hiroyuki Imaishi's work. I love Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill (watched both 4 times), Promare was okay, Luluco and The Twins (SW Visions) were fun, didn't like Panty & Stocking. But Edgerunners has good story, good characters, GREAT ENDING. I can't wait to see his next project.

Still speechless about the ending, it's a bittersweet ending for Lucy. David dreams come true about him taking her to the moon but not together though. It's just sad for me.

Also Rebecca the waifu, she's doing all the support for David even if David doesn't love her, she sacrifice her life for him. What a wife material i wish she lived. Fuck smasher for killing her!

Wow that was amazing, personally I know of the game but never played it myself so going into this with zero context was a bit wonky trying to figure out some lingo for words, but for the most part for a cyberpunk genre it was pretty self explanatory to figure out what was going on without really having to look up what words meant besides some full acronyms.

I thought Trigger did wonderfully with this, the color scheme was amazing and from what I’ve seen the majority of the soundtrack (if not all?) is from the game itself which I didn’t know how solid it was. I was surprised to hear HEALTH having a song in the soundtrack too so that was a treat.

From the way everything was setting up you can tell there was not going to be a happy ending, and I’m glad it ended with a bang. I was scared it was going to parallel with Maine and Dorio and the ending would be David accidentally killing Lucy while trying to bring him back from the edge, but I’m happy that wasn’t the case and he still gave her her wish and that never left his mind.

I fucking hated that ending. It wasn't a poorly constructed ending. But it neither was a "woah this sucks but its a good ending, I feel its fair", it just makes you feel like shit and the moon dream seems like it wasn't worth it at all. I fucking loved Naota/David's relationship with Haruko/Lucy in the first half and wish we had seen more of it. The second half of the show everything went to shit fast and I wasn't liking it. It was good, but it made me feel like shit all the way through because I cared about this characters so much. I think that David dying was the typical easy movie ending, and it was very disappointing. It wasn't bad, but I expected to be surprised. Lucy, in the moon, just seemed sad and lonely. Making it more obvious that she suddenly realized her place was by David's side, and that the moon didn't fulfill her jb the way she expected. Only when seeing David she's able to smile, and welcome the rays of sun... Which as someone pointed out, she had mentioned they'd kill you if they touched your bare skin. And at the end we're gonna carry that weight.

4
level 2

In ep6, after she hacks in Tanaka and finds the stuff about David, is when her goal for the moon became to keep David alive. Is why she didn't want David to go back and help Maine out of fear of him dying. After that she dedicated her goal in keeping him safe from Arisaka. She no longer cared about the moon, because David became her moon hence the title of the last ep " My moon My man"

That was a great binge, Definitely 8/10. Animation was fucking sick and the most creative I've seen in a long time. The soundtracks are a banger too. The story is formulaic, seen these tropes a thousand times now so was immune to the sadness and what Lucy felt.

BUT, what broke my heart was Rebecca. Maaaaan why they do her like that, fuck. I just thought she was this generic annoying loli, tsundere type character to the MC but she was a great character. I got attached to her towards the end of the series because she was ride or die with David despite knowing she's losing the love interest. I knew she was going to die but goddamn that shocked me how she died.

Oh and shout-out to Falco too, my man was the best driver out there. Rebecca and Falco were my favorite characters in the series.

6

In the Game. There is a bar called Afterlife. It has drinks named after people that become a legends and died. There is one called David Martinez. It was since the game released.

7
level 1

After the "top of Arasaka tower" thing and when David said "I'll take you to the moon", I knew where this was going. The Maine and Dorio "Mom & Dad" aspect of the ragtag team also gave it away, reminded me of Baby Driver. Things would always fall apart as soon as they came together.

As much as I'd hope for a happy ending or second season, it seems unlikely. Watching stuff like Berserk and Cowboy Bebop made me think that I'd be ready for the ending, but my heart still hurts. And what even is there for Lucy on the moon? She's all alone now. Fuck man.

If there's ever a moonbase DLC that takes place in the far future or after a major timeskip, it'd be cool to see her as an old mage-like character that never found someone else.

For everyone here giving major spoilers in your comments regarding the game, especially those (while not directly stating) giving very obvious hints as to how the game ends, please keep in mind that due to this shows popularity the game got a massive, massive boost in people playing this game for the first time. So to many people this show was their first taste of Cyberpunk, please stop spoiling, or giving very obvious hints as to how the game ends.

I just finished the show today and bought Cyberpunk less than an hour later for the first time, came to the comments to join in with everyone talking about the incredible ending to an incredible show and was not expecting so many spoilers to the game.

Well, shit went full Akudama drive for the last episodes lol, glad at least two from the gang made it, still I think Becca's death was uncalled for lol.

Also I fucking lost it when the trauma team appeared quick out of nowhere to save Faraday, peak dark comedy moment lmao.

Really liked this anime, I knew the world of Cyberpunk was pretty damn interesting and this series let it shine at it's fullest. I would have preferred the anime to have 2 more episodes tho, from 1 to 6 the pace was quick but still enough for the story to not feel that rushed, episodes 7-10 was full "fuck it, we are running out of time", we went from final battle, to David's death, to Lucy visiting the moon in what? 1 minute? lol.

So while replying to other threads I just noticed that R. Talsorian Games has a sale on a lot of their Cyberpunk books because of the release of the anime:

https://rtalsoriangames.com/2022/09/12/cyberpunk-edgerunner-sale-september-cpr-dlc/

Via their own webstore or Drivethrurpg.

And even then, if you aren't familiar with the company, they have also made several anime inspired RPGs in the past including Teenagers from Outerspace (think a combination of Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2 and project A-Ko), Mekton, the no longer published Bubblegum Crisis RPG so they have been historically huge anime nerds and otaku so I'd like to think they are really happy with how it's turned out.

I guess...this is the closest I'll get to a happy ending with at least 2 of the cast living 🥲

But man what a fucking masterful anime

5
level 1

David was getting on my nerves with his indecisiveness and refusal of good advice throughout the series, even going so far as to turn himself into a war machine in the end despite everyones best efforts.

Lucy got a bit trope-y towards the end but the relationship with David at least felt fairly genuine. Rebecca was amazing throughout the whole show along with Falco, those two were true MVPs.

The first half was a lot better before it suddenly turned into some over the top action movie, but even then it was fun to watch even if it didn't feel that well written anymore. Still a very good show and sublime animations, 8/10.

4
level 2

Yeah, his ego lol, its in character for him though...not one to back down. EP 1 in the bully fight, really sums that building up of his character. Its egocentric, but wouldnt call it narcissistic....but it sets him up psychologically to doing the things his did: getting more augmented, growing more cocky/arrogant, dismissing advice (from friends, lover Lucy and the psychodoc and also his cyberpsychosis resistance made him feel special, further feeding into his character flaw.

Thats why as therapists, we always be professional, dont act like this psychodoc here, his casual overfamiliar manner also caused his advice to be dismissed.

I was not ready for the feels at the end 😭 This show was so well made, everything was executed perfectly—animation, art, editing, soundtrack and the setting was awesome. Kind of wishing we get a Mirror's Edge anime at some point even though I know it'll probably never happen.

5

Wish there had been more to the double crossing rather than leaning on cyberpsychosis for every tragic/shocking event in the show. Kiwi having a mantra of "don't trust anybody" then trusting the least trustworthy person in the show brought down the second act for me. Outside of that the animation was great and the characters were fun enough. Didn't feel like it said much but it was a fun dumb ride, plus they did a great job with Atom Smasher.

10 out of fucking 10. Easily best anime i have seen in years.

The crazy part is that they managed to get 2 arcs inside of 10 episodes and first arc is even better than second. The moment big guy snapped is easily peek anime, there are so many scenes shots that just scream high art.

If they would finish at first arc it would be 11/10 but second arc was just lower than amazing first.

Imho whole thing also should be watched as a moviie on one go rather than eps.

29

Agreed. Essentially watch episodes 1-5 as the first movie, and 6-10 as the 2nd. Works best that way, essentially how I binged it since I took a break after 5 to do some stuff before watching the last bit.
