Maine asking why NCPD keeps appearing out of thin air is one of the best lines in the whole show. I paused it there because I couldn't stop laughing
Nice easter egg to broken game physics lol.
What the hell, the English subtitles said “Fuck! Why’s NCPD always fast when it comes to us?”, ruining the joke. When I turned on the dub he indeed says the line about them appearing out of thin air and English closed caption subs have the same, better, line.
Lol I'm playing through the game again cause of the anime and there's a mod now that stops that 😂
Man watching Maine turn psycho was pretty brutal. Interesting what the Arasaka guy said, I assume he basically wanted to turn David into another Adam Smasher type body guard.
I feel that this episode was a bit too soon, we needed a couple more episodes of the crew doing shit before the fall. But I did love it when David suddenly showed up in the car with his arms.
I dont watch anime, but love cyberpunk and this is my favorite episode so far. This episode was so good, and bittersweet. It was a very fitting ending because how David glorified violence and cyberpsychos in the first episode. Seeing Maine lose it showed how these guys dont just wake up like that one day, they have deeper problems, but they keep getting more and more "chrome".
Something I learned when I started watching anime a few years back is that anime isn’t a genre, it’s a medium. Basically any kind of story can be told in anime. So if you enjoy this, I’m willing to bet there are more shows out there you’d love just as much.
I thing the one of the strong points of this show is that it doesn't has any anime tropes, it is just a good animated work, the best anime are not animeish, and this falls into that category
This show is simultaneously the most vibrant and the most bleak television I have ever witnessed.
The few seconds of a complete still of david was really cool too. When him and maine were just waiting for maxtech to land and attack. In other cases, itd just be lazy animation, but the way its done here is really artistic. No visual stimulus, just david’s panicked breathing
Yo this was peak episode. That ending is just on another level. I like how when the mission is put into story with Emotions
This much violence really puts me in mind of old 90s OVAs. Really, even the grungy cyberpunk aesthetic feels like a throwback too.
you should totally throw me some reccomendations that give off this vibe you speak of
Best episode in the series imo. Very much encapsulates the way this world kicks you in the dick.
Of all the characters, Maine wasn't someone that I expected to suffer cyberpsychosis, but what really got me was his sense of sorta-lucidity when David reached him.
watching this series before bed was a mistake, how can I possibly sleep ending on this episode?!
Definitely one of the best in the ONA so far. The animation was fucking incredible, with some really visceral sakuga. Maine and Dorio were awesome and seeing them go like that hit pretty hard. The foreshadowing showing Maine's deteriorating mental condition in earlier episodes comes to fruition in a meaningful way here, and visually it was represented in an interesting way.
Overall the show continues to surprise and impress me. I liked Cyberpunk 2077 and I like Trigger, but I really expect nothing out of game-related spinoffs and such because usually they're hard to pull off. But this story feels meaningful as a standalone project, and it fits right in with the setting, themes, and story of the game. And throughout, Trigger's faithful depiction of Night City is basically 1-to-1 what it's like in-game, even down to the minor details. Nothing but good things to say about this project.
This episode felt too real, too painful. I understand that sense of "it can never go back to normal", and it hit more this episode than even the first episode.
Aw man, that show was the shit. I did not expect to like it so much.
Although, the deaths there felt more bittersweet and "hype" in comparison cause most of the characters went out in blazes of glory, and their deaths also came with victories. I couldn't be too sad because of how they won in the end. And I'm not saying that's a bad thing at all. It made the ending feel earned and satisfying. Here, it just feels far more tragic.
This was the most heartbreaking 25 mins of any piece of media I've seen this year.
Like I only met Maine an hour and a half ago. How could this affect me so much?? The writing, the directing, the VAs, the animators, the music team-- every single part was firing on all cylinders this episode. I'm legitimately stunned here.
Maine was the crews rock. The guy everyone looked up to and would follow to hell for a ham sandwich. If his strong ass can be taken over by cyber psychosis then anyone of them can
Incredible episode. One of the best of the year for sure. Ikarashi’s storyboarding is unrivaled at Trigger. His episodes for Gridman (9) and Dynazenon (10) were also the standouts from their respective series. I’d love to see a full series drawn up by him at some point.
This episode was so well done. Maaan having two three characters already gone is sad but these scenes were well executed. Trigger's animation really captures these feelings

3 characters. You forgot the techie with the arms and fingers lol.
Fuck, man... we knew it was coming, and it was simultaneously worse and not as bad as I expected. Worse because I did not expect cyberpsychosis to plague Maine to the point of jeopardizing their mission, getting his lover killed, and ultimately choosing to end it all because of it. And I think he ended up basically killing Kiwi too? Fuck, this whole operation turned south way too quickly.
But it was also not as bad as I thought because the moment cyberpsychosis came up, I thought David was gonna have to put down his mentor with his own hands, and/or that Maine would kill Dorio on accident. Then again, he likely sees her death as being his fault, so there's not much difference there.
And at the very end David still managed to salvage one of his arms... I don't know what they're gonna do with it (if David's literally gonna use it), but fuck me if that didn't break my heart. And the cherry on top of this depressing sundae is that the data was a dud and they all died for nothing. Well, it's that or the information is just so dangerous or fucked up that Lucy is completely unwilling to divulge it at all.
All that and we're just halfway through the show.
Probably the best-directed episode of this year so far. What was the actual peak I just witnessed?
The best episode of anime I watched in a long time. They really nailed this one.
they kinda move too fast with the anime, still it was a good episode, we could see clearly the effect of cyberpsychosis, and they portrayed the cruelity of one mistake leading to another
When Lucy was arguing with Dorio her hand was shaking, was she just worked up, or was it a sign of Cyber Psychosis?
Shit really hit the fan this episode huh, we have been seeing David's indecisiveness to ''pull the trigger'' throughout the previous episodes, and it really shows here that maybe he isn't as ruthless as he though he could be.
His indecisiveness here basically caused the demise of his squad, I'd imagine he'd really blame himself for this.
Maine slipping away into Cyber Psychosis was so hard to watch. He was such a great boss, and you just know he didn't really mean what he said to David in that hallway. When he was with David at the end there, his thousand yard stare really got to me, you can just see that man's broken...
Glad they really expanded on Cyber Psychosis though, beating the game I had a hard time sympathising with the victims, but seeing Maine like this really give me the feels, it's like watching the one you know and love slip away bit by bit, and there's nothing you can do about it, kinda like Alzheimers?
Wish we'd seen more from his flashback, was he in the Badlands in his pre-chromed days? And how did he meet Faraday there?
Really sad that we've already lost 3 squad members now, really wish we could've seen more squad comradery in action, they really were good people. Albeit short lived, we got to know and love them, and that's more we can say for Jackie Welles.
Another great ending, every episode so far has made me have to take a moment to process all the emotions.
And I wonder what did Lucy really see?
Ikarashi cinema - if you've seen other Trigger works, you may have recognized their work on Dynazenon #10 as well.
Fantastic episode, no harm in saying among the best of the year (sitting among Ranking of Kings #21, Priconne S2 #4, One Piece #1015, etc).
Takes the gore focus to the next level, super impressive direction, music was integrated wonderfully. Going to be checking this one out again numerous times in the future, that is for sure!
I'm guessing Dorio was shot in the back or underneath by a cop and not Maine
Yep, Maine's gun was nowhere near her and there was a cop shooting behind her in the next scene.
Anyone able to find the song/track at 11:44ish? I checked all the songs listed at the very end of the credits and none of them were it.
I think it’s this one?
I both hated and loved this episode. Also I’m fucking crying 😭 hated because I knew it was coming but it still one great episode! Trigger don’t miss.
One tear, huh? David couldn't even do that for his mother.
How did Maine to turn psycho? From the last chapter to this I felt everything got rushed.
When it comes to cyberpsychosis, early symptoms are generally not that crazy. Stuff like inability to sleep and occasional twitches in the limbs, which don't seem like that big of a deal. The going crazy part I assume isn't gradual, but more rapid.
This show is so freaking amazing! love the action scenes and every member in the crew. You see all the red flags set up the last two episodes and its executing exactly how I thought it would but still captivates me completely and the animation is awesome.
I feel so bad for Dario, she's the one trying to keep this shit show together and gets a bullet for her troubles...
Only thing that bothered me was the overly long still shot with 4:03 left. I thought my screen froze. Other than that amazing episode
Damn, wished they pushed this episode back a bit. Felt like David just joined the crew and shit hits the fan.
I am watching it now, some shots seem drawn very poorly compared to the previous episodes, with proportions completely wrong (at the beginning of the episode), weird fingers and some very weird looking hair for the protagonist at times.. feels strange
