As campaign season ramps up, two prominent Republicans say theyโ€™ll support Democrat Mike Collier for lieutenant governor, offering an early boost to the Houston accountant who seeks to unseat conservative Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick in November.

Retiring Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley threw his support behind Collier over the weekend, escalating his ongoing feud with the two-term incumbent. Whitley praised Collierโ€™s focus on strengthening the stateโ€™s power grid and a commitment to work with local officials on property tax reform โ€” Patrickโ€™s signature issue.
