Kiwi Farms has been removed from the Internet Archive. The archives of all the threads of people made on Kiwi Farms are gone.

Purging something from the internet archive is the most concerning part of this story. Good, bad or anywhere in between, the internet archive is an archive of what has been on the internet. Nobody should have the ability to editorialize a historical archive

it's not about "good" or "bad" the material on that site was actively harmful. archives should only exist to reflect on the past for the betterment of the future, and not to hold illegally published personal information that has been used to kill people.

I’d normally agree but KF was housing an extreme amount of doxxing info about people - a hell of a lot of trans people in particular. It was extremely dangerous to just be out there and available, even via internet archive

The power of the collective internet? I’d be scared if the voice of so many that are suffering thanks to KF was ignored and it stayed up

Normally I’d agree that completely removing a site is concerning. but KF was pretty much exclusively used to profile, compile personal info, and poke at people. Sure some targets were genuinely bad and but many others were just because they were prey for bullying.

Pretty sure they have back ups that can be given to proper government agencies if needed but not given out to the general public due to a person’s personal data or info being on there.

It was not "within a week." People have been fighting that site for a decade, and they KF had already burned bridges with a lot of hosts and services that had previously harbored out by being too toxic for them to be willing to deal with.

In that time they have been frequently implicated in crime and even terrorism (the breaking point for this most recent push was when one of their users started posting about plans to set bombs around Belfast, which is to say *reigniting the fucking Troubles.*

Andrew doesn't care, he wants to stand on a post and make unreasonable demands that don't represent how society works in practice so he can call himself a free speech extremist This kind of person also often misuses the concept of freedom of speech

No. You may feel differently if you did know what the story was about, but regardless, this wasn't a single entity wielding power, it was many entities reviewing content and each deciding that they don't want to be associated with it.

the archive didn’t “fold to pressure” it removed dangerous and illegal material of people being doxxed in the same way child pornography is not held on the archive just to keep it from being “deplatformed” 💀 kiwifarms has been going on for years but y’all don’t read
