OH BOY, that generic enemy generated here, oh, theres 3 this time, cool! Hey, remember in MEGA MAN when you went to the Fire level, and all the enemies were fire themed, and they didnt appear in the ice level?

i've tried like 4 different roguelikes and just could not stick with them, so i always get a little disappointed when the hot new indie craze is a roguelike

There are VERY few exceptions for me but Rogues are easily one of my least favorite games/genres out there.

i played almost all the big roguelikes and i hate them everytime i just think "i sure would love this if i wasnt meant to die repeatedly and start over everytime in the same procedurally generated area"

Literally the best part about the shovel knight series is the fact that the platforming and level design was so good and it's so replayable but I tried pocket dungeon and got bored almost immediately idk roguelites never really clicked

Dont get me wrong I love a good rougelike but ive been DYING for another game like Eastward, Owlboy, Va11ha11a, and even Undertale. Everything right now is trying to be a farming sim or rougelike and its driving me crazy. Oh cute indie ga- stardew valley again.

fr there have been so many indie roguelikes made after rebirth came out it's exhausting, I wanna support indie devs but I also don't want to be expected to sacrifice 5 years from my lifespan just to experience what I paid for

That seems more about roguelites than roguelikes. Many roguelikes have long runs (10+ hours) so you have time to feel that you are a part of the world.

You think that's bad? Imagine being a roguelike fan. RL used to be such a solid and well defined genre that you could trace the genealogy of every game all the way back to the original Rogue. Now it's just a tag that they add to any game with random level generation

Before: Caves of Qud is a roguelike, it is influenced by ADOM, which is influenced by Hack, which is a clone of the original Rogue. Now: Fortnite is a roguelike because loot is procedurally generated, there's permadeath and every run is unique
