Maybe. There are actually low bandwidth LTE standards as well.
Also, carriers are switching everything to LTE for increased spectral efficiency. If you only need old 2G bandwidth, they still want you on LTE because they can handle more customers.

As we start to understand how John Deere built this, people are raising some very real concerns about GPL compliance. Deere has built a very profitable empire on the backs of open source software. Where are their contributions back to the community?

How is anyone surprised by this? You want to know what underpins anything? Look for what the cheapest standard was in the 5 years before it was released. Everything since then is just patched on most of the time.

Yep. When I was a technician in an air traffic control tower in the early 2010s, everything was on Windows 98. The logging system for our precision approach radar was on Window 95.

You would be surprised at how many farmers are geeks, especially those who ran from the tech industry when it had us pulling our hair out.

The lifespan of farming equipment is up to 40 years. It is hard to find a software company that will provide patches for their code for that long.
