School districts across the Houston region are trying to fill hundreds of teacher vacancies before most will be welcoming students back to classrooms in the coming weeks for the start of the year.
A survey of several of the largest systems in the area shows a need for more than 1,700 educators to fill a variety of vacancies. The Houston Independent School District, the stateโs largest system scheduled to kick off its year Aug. 22, had about 750 openings for certified teachers listed on its career portal Monday.
