“Sketches of the Early Schools of Twin Valley” provides information on 140 schools that were located in what is now the Twin Valley School District. The book is complete with maps and nearly 160 sketches.

Many of the schools featured in the book were one-and two-room facilities that date from the 1700s until 1955 when Twin Valley became a school district.

Brady was born and raised in Robeson Township. He taught in all of the Twin Valley schools, including 30 plus years in the Honey Brook School.

“Since I was in education all my life and attended Hay Creek, a one-room school while in grade school I find them very interesting,” said Brady.

Brady’s wife, Sara Ann said, “The early teachers not only taught their classes, but also served as their own nurse, secretary and janitor.”

“When Sara Ann and I first got married we needed money. They were looking for people to clean the one-room schools in Robeson Township.,” recalled Jere. ” We cleaned most of them and were paid $8 a school. I ttook two of us all day to do one.

The Bradys’ five children all attended Twin Valley schools. Their home has many memories from the various schools in the district.

Many of the schools featured in his book are no longer in existence. You will find sketches and photos of the Boy’s Academy that was located at Main Street and Mill Road in Morgantown. Do you remember the octagonal school in Honey Brook Township or the Pine Tree School in Robeson Township? You will find many pictures of these long past schools, as well as sketches of the Amish schools in the area.

The book includes schools in Caernarvon, Robeson, Honey Brook, and West Nantmeal townships, Elverson and Honey Brook boroughs.

Brady, a local artist has written other books including “1770-1970 Caernarvon Township Centennial” and “Early Sketches of Scarlet’s Mills.”

The public is invited to the book signing. The cost of the book is $29.95 and additional parking is available on South Street behind the Gallery.
