Michael Cortez, a ninth-grader at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, joined other chalk artists recently in transforming Houston's streets into a gallery of art.
Cortez, who participated in Via Colori: The Street Painting Festival, was one of 14 area high school students who joined about 200 artists in bringing asphalt to life at the eighth annual festival, according to a Houston Independent School District release. All the proceeds from the festival were donated to The Center for Hearing and Speech.
"I am excited because this is my first professional art experience," Michael said in the release.
