just forced me to sign up for an HP account to use my printer—weeks after setup. It worked fine then shut itself down in protest and would not work again until I signed up for an account to "complete the setup process."

They really just wanted to sell me on a toner subscription and other services. They help my printer hostage until I submitted to their marketing + sales pitches. And now they have my personal info.

There's a lot of f'd up stuff going on in the world right now and this is just a minor inconvenience. But it's also a symptom of the extractive systems and philosophies at the root of many problems.

I got a

watch and HR monitor. Five months later Summertime ended. The only way to change the time was via the Garmin app, which wasn’t a thing when I got it. Since I didn’t buy the watch to give them my data, I stopped using it. Terrible. Will never buy Garmin again.
