/ Back In 1998 a journalist from St. Petersburg discovered that Vladimir Putin should have not been appointed as a head of Russian security service (FSB) – internal rules said one should have at least Lieutenant general rank for that.

If I remember correctly, there was an offer of promotion to general rank, which was rejected by Putin.

Western governments have been dealing with a thug for over two decades. I don't believe our security services kept it a secret, which raises serious questions about politicians in power, not least the Conservatives in Britain, but also many others. Since 2014 there was no excuse.

But ’s article describes the claim that Putin's appointment violated the FSB’s internal staffing policy as “questionable”, says Russian law makes no mention of rank requirements! And Levin-Utkin didn’t write the article! & there were others with more obvious grudges!

My wife’s uncle trained with Putin.
Anyway, there’s a family video where, back when they where in training for KGB, he makes the comment (I think to another uncle) “if that man ever gets in power it will cause a world war”… he wasn’t far wrong
