Turkey is keeping NATO hostage by blocking SWE and FIN “because we support terrorists”. Finnish media has investigated: Of the people Turkey demands we extradite, one’s crime was using a particular messaging service, another posted on Facebook something Erdogan didn’t like.

No wonder Turkey also demands that we muzzle the free press :D.
Turkey’s demands are so patently impossible to fulfill that the likelihood of Erdogan having made a deal with Putin vis a vis Syria has to be considered quite high.
What an ally, eh?

We should also demand the extradition of Cenotaph to Finland. We could arrange a tour for them.

To paraphrase British statesman...
We already know what Erdogan is.
We're just determining price.

NATO votes should be by two-thirds majority, not individual veto. Foolishness.

No. I am as much on the side of as you are, but committing to defend another country with own soldiers cannot be decided by being voted down. Then alliance would also not be credible.

Should Finland still bother to join a club with members like such? If not,
1) Change Turkey
2) Submit to these demands
3) Use something else in exchange for these demands
4) Ask US to pressure Turkey to drop these demands
5) (Threaten to) rescind NATO application if US refuses

Diplomats are busy working at the background, I’m sure. And we’re not in a hurry. Besides, Turkey will have a chance to get rid of Erdogan in the summer of next year. Let Turkey simmer in its own marinade as long as it takes.

For real! Turkey and sometimes Hungary, under their current leaders, have been hostile to Western tourists.
Tourists should update their information!

We support Finland joining NATO. Turkey Finland best friends. But long democratic process, maybe next year. Or in 10 years, maybe. We love you, we will be sorry when Russia nukes Finland. Best wishes

Turkey seems quite appropriate right now. Once secular, now just gobble gobble. Bizarre how it supports one set of freedom fighters to the north, but those to the south are “terrorises”

At the same time Turkey openly threatens Greece with war (both NATO "allies")

It's insanity, Janne. This is what happens when you have to deal with corrupt, lawless dictatorships. Turkey should have never been in NATO in the first place.
Still, Finland and Sweden shouldn't give in to these crazy demands. The pressure is on Turkey (remember).

We aren’t budging. The demands themselves are so ridiculous that either they were designed to be impossible to fulfill, which supports the theory that Erdogan made a deal with Putin, or they were made by utterly incompetent nincompoops. Which is also a possibility.

Erdogan shouldn’t be too confident. He can only push things in Nato to a certain point. After that the will of other members to respond favorably to a Turkish article 5 request will vanish. What goes around comes around.

Erdogan is just another Putin to be. Already putting himself on yet another term. These are autocrats in the making if not one already. Keep a close eye on Orban too. Owning all the media outlets is to dictate the public opinion, like Berlusconi tried to do with Italy.

Swedish media ought to make a similar investigation of things in Sweden.
It wouldn’t surprise me if some of the Turkish accusations about Sweden had more basis in fact.
It’s beginning to look more and more to me that it was a mistake to push a joint application so much.

If there’s a business deal, you do something called “due diligence” (= ‘a comprehensive appraisal of a business undertaken by a prospective buyer, especially to establish its assets and liabilities and evaluate its commercial potential.’)
Here Finland did due diligence by

It's a bad situation alright, and a very dangerous one, for Finnland and Sweden. For Greece it's just Tuesday. Our daily life for decades now. The main difference is, you were supporting them. No worries, we are just happy to welcome you and promise you, our support.

Even if the governments and the whole of Nato accept demands today by tommorrow the demands will increase a bit more and a bit more...
do not negotiate nor do they bargain. They simply try to extort a bit more each time
are the bargaining chips vis a vi
