Photograph of the excursion boat Admiral under construction, using hull of sidewheel steamboat Albatross which was constructed in 1907 in Dubuque, Iowa, by Dubuque Boat and Boiler. The art deco Admiral was designed by Maizie Krebs, a fashion illustrator for Famous-Barr department store, for Captain Joe Streckfus in 1933, and it was built by Steamers Service Company from 1938-1940, with Banner Iron Works as the contractors. The Admiral was 374 feet long and 92 feet wide, and was the first all-steel inland steamer. Day and evening excursions took place on the Mississippi River at St. Louis.
