Came here to say this again, and stumbled on my former self. Still a very good take though!

Hit's the spot really. Despite Orwell's intentions, the fact that his historical and political analysis were so superficial mean '1984' is basically a science-fiction novel rather than a political dystopia. It's good it's scathing because many people treat '1984' too seriously.
