TERFs 🤝 Conservative Women
I looked at a popular online TERF forum immediately after the draft leak dropped and the top reply to the thread that abortion rights were about to be eviscerated was complaining about the democrats being in favor of "girl dick" lol.
Same, I'm trying to piece together the meaning of this meme reading all the comments and I'm even more confused.
Hell, even Iran isn't as strict as some states about abortion. Fucking Iran.
Iran's policy is that the government should decide the population growth rate. When they felt the population needed to grow due to the losses they were taking during the Iraq war, they restricted abortion. When they felt the population was growing too fast, they loosened abortion regulations. Now that birth rates are dropping, the restrictions are coming back.
Their posistion is about the furthest thing possible from "prochoice".
Tehran is the gender reassignment capital of the world. There are no gay men, only trans women. I don't know what the Ayatollah's policy on lesbians is, but it's probably not super chill.
It's terrifying to think that Iran of all places is comparable in attitude to the bible belt.
This isn't praise for Iran, this is alarm about the American south east.
Are Terfs voting Republican? I always figured this was a debate within radical feminists who I highly doubt did very much to put this current crop of clown asses on the Supreme Court.
I wonder if any conservative men also contributed to this state of affairs
Ah yes, let's blame all the radical feminists who voted for Donald trump. I'm sure there were many such cases.../s
Blaming terfs for the gop embracing fundi evangelicals is bullshit but you do you op.
Radical berniebros were not supposed to vote for Trump either, yet they did in enough numbers to give him the White House.
What does this have to do with anything neoliberal and what is it about?
Rights for women, the LGBT and personal bodily autonomy are neo liberal goals. Trans rights antagonists and pro-life folks tend to work together more than they should - even when they end goals are so entirely opposing. Like when women join the far right and than complain when they're treated like broodmares and property.
Hence the comparison to a show/book about a society that was partially uplifted by women who had individual goals aligning with the extremist religious groups.
The sons of Jacob, the primary bad guy in Handmaid's Tale was a fundamentalist Christian group, that to gain power relied and antigovernment left-leaning activists to destroy the US and gain power becoming the Republic of Gilliead. The eventuality for one of the founders, a Conservative woman, when she wanted to be heard by the leaders, was bodily mutilations because she, a woman, had no rights. She's eventually iirc was killed for her 'treason' of reading.
Yah my transphobic fundamentalist mother used to use lines straight out of the TERF playbook when she was trying to convince teenage me that no worthwhile woman would ever love a crossdresser.

This subreddit is getting invaded by leftists and we're upvoting it?

Yo bud, you're not supposed to blow the whistle everyone can hear.
Edit: How the fuck was this controversial LOL he literally said a meme about conservatives and TERFs loving attacking trans people is somehow "Leftist."
I do wonder how trans women feel about the "No uterus, no opinion" ad hominem fallacy attack.
I as a trans woman understand that I don't have a say in this argument, and I leave it those with a uterus.
I started watching Handmaid’s Tale last night since so many seem determined to live it. Holy shit, that show is disturbing. I don’t remember the last time I felt physically ill watching television.
I remember watching it a few years ago during the Kavanaugh confirmation hearing and thinking, "god this is stupidly unrealistic" because there is little possibility of anything resembling the Iranian revolution in the US.
Flash forward to now, it's still stupidly unrealistic, but the fact abortion has lost its protection makes it very relevant. Unlike the sons of Jacob, this comes from our own institutions, and what if this animates the religious right to form a movement to get it banned for the rest of the country?
Are they going to fight in the Zulu wars with that helmet
Conservative women never gave a shit about women's right or abortion is the real knee slapper here.
Please stop with the “If the States get to regulate abortion the the Handmaids Tale becomes a documentary” schtick. Nobody that can form an independent thought is really buying in.
Edit and specifically;
“And to ensure that our decision is not misunderstood or mischaracterized, we emphasize that our decision concerns the constitutional right to abortion and no other right. Nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion.”
Because they aren’t coming for more rights? Alito outlined what they’re gunning for in his opinion.
Did you even read the title? It acknowledges that conservative women are part of the problem.
The idea of "Old men trying to control what women do" is mostly referring to our government, not necessarily the general populace.
This just isn't true. Women for decades right and left support legal and safe access to abortion.
Majorities of both men and women express support for legal abortion, though women are somewhat more likely than men to hold this view (62% vs. 56%)
62% of women, when polling bipartisan are pro-choice. The only area where you're nearly correct is hardline Conservative Republicans. Even there the women outclass men in support.
Tradcon religious men are the largest demographic of prolifers. You're fucking puffing your own bullshit if you think otherwise.
Has everyone read the whole opinion ? Those issues he points to he uses as other examples of federal overreach.
Did you read the part where he directly stipulates that the Opinion goes to abortion only and specifies that it does not have applicability elsewhere ?
Quit getting all of your information in bites. Read the Opinion.
Specifically - “And to ensure that our decision is not misunderstood or mischaracterized, we emphasize that our decision concerns the constitutional right to abortion and no other right.Nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion.”
