commonly coincide with the actions of the viewer or artist. Depictions of deviant fetishes or heinous acts have never 'caused someone' to do things. The worry that seeing fictional behavior will compel people to copy it is deeply disturbing. This projection displays a (more)

serious disconnect with reality, dissociation from one's own behavior, lack of self control or individual thought & reasoning. If you feel the need to just copy what you see in fiction without empathy or hesitation, this is a dangerous mental illness or developmental problem.

I once read someone comment that looking at images of 16 year old anime girls in short shorts can 'unlock the inner pedophile and turn you into a pedo' and I was extremely creeped out. That commenter needs therapy and to stay the fuck away from kids, not the artist/fans.

I know this is a very serious tweet essay, but I'm very shocked about the attention. I've never had more than maybe 20 likes before, so I'm going to share my work here in hopes of reaching more people who may enjoy it. I follow-back artists and small businesses & do pin for pin.

Muting this thread, b4 I go let me just point out that this is NOT just about loli/shota art, and please do not post any images like that here because I personally don't like seeing that stuff and you have the right to it but it should be behind a TW or censor. Be kind people ❤

You’re right. I never saw this behavior back in the late 90s and early 2000s, but that was when fandoms were all tucked away in their own communities. Now everything mixes everywhere. It’s like a mall having just kiosks instead of individual stores to enter and it’s a mess.

It wouldn't be the only time the media has been blamed for an individual's choice, unfortunately. I'm beginning to understand more points to similar arguments, but when it comes down to it, there existed a disconnection between reality and fiction in the individual it seems.

Often it’s not even a fear of the media influencing people’s behavior, it’s just the simple inability to deal in a healthy way with stuff that makes them uncomfortable. Which tells me a lot of these kids grew up in a bubble and were spoilt by their parents to an extreme.

Really makes me wonder what kinda things they're wanting to do when they look at that stuff, honestly. People tend to react to others based on their own reality, after all.

It kind of worries me, too. I'm not sure if it's a lack of critical thinking or something mental but it *does* make me seriously go, "Are the kids okay?" I'm still in my 20s and there's definitely something different going on.

I don't think they're worried about copying it it's the human mind doesn't like seeing extreme Gore Etc it's natural to have a problem with it like I do. The human mind naturally should be opposed to unnatural things.

If I didn't join Twitter, I would think people who bring up the age of fictional characters on the internet are weird but this seems to be a normal thing on Twitter and I accept it as a normal (shitty) behaviour outside it as well.

That's just thing- I highly doubt this behavior comes from actual concern for anyone or desire to improve society. It's for attention, lashing out at others to cope with something, or projection of their own fears.

While i’d be lying if i said the current uptick wasn’t concerning it’s also not ‘new’, and can be traced back at least as early as early film stars playing villains being demonised, no doubt it effected authors long before then too. 1/

Lets not pretend like ‘kids these days’ are uniquely falling into this trap. Rather something else is making it easier to fall in and harder to climb out. Which i have niether the time or energy to get into at 00:17.

They’re being radicalized by a certain subsection of groups online. All stemming from -radical feminism takes on tumblr -the recent uprise of conservatism in the West -fake social justice (example: your fav is problematic) - the corporatization of pride and fandom in general

- and finally: algorithms allowing Practically Anyone to “go viral” and potentially spread misinfo. And ppl tend to look at “viral” tweets as, “hey, a lot of ppl think this. It must be right.” And it all blended together into the shitstorm of fandom today 🎉

im baffled this sort of discussion even exist since forever that im on the internet I just assumed people just liked what they liked in fiction and just moved on with their lives and the amount of projection these people have, it's honestly kinda scary

This is definitely not new. Stories of actors who portray villains being accosted for things their character have done have been common for a long time. Religious groups attacking authors of "immoral words" have been happening for a long time.

my psychology teacher once said in a lecture “fiction was born so people can experiment on the unthinkable without harming real people in the process” then proceeds to add that whatever the outcome of the product all depends on how the people takes it

fiction does affect reality in a sense, but how much it affects you depends on how much you bite on the product. We have control on how much fiction that we consume can influence us.

Too many kids unaware of how privileged they are whose entire lifes revolve around fiction and social media, they end up with a warped worldview where they think fiction and mean words are the source of the world's problems since they know nothing about how the real world works.

Here's a controvertial take: I think the internet, or at least social media, should be restricted for minors as it's pretty obvious by now just how damaging it can be for young, developing minds. And this comes from someone who's been on the internet since I was at least 9.

im concerned too because while fiction can affect reality, specific fiction can only affect you if you had an underlying problem if that makes sense. Like... Example jaws meant to bring awareness about sharks or something but instead caused sharks to be killed a lot (1)

(2) thats an example od fiction affecting reality but where as say someone reading a bunch of fictional serial killer stories does not make you become one unless you already had an underlying problem that you needed help for to begin with.

Its sad to be honest. Cant depict slavery or sexual assault without people losing their shit either because it makes people uncomfortable. No shit, thats the point.
