It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Cici J Winn the morning of Saturday April 23rd 2022 after a long fight with Leukemia . Cici was an Iconic figure in the Kigurumi Cosplay community as well as a wonderful partner, sibling and parent to two beautiful daughters.

There is a void in my heart that can never be filled again. Sometimes in life, you come across a person that is so unintentionally influential just by doing what they love that you have a hard time believing they are sincere & real. I met one of those people several years ago.

Cici was a force of positivity in this world and always surprised us with their friendly approach to others, no matter the situation. Cici loved life to its fullest and life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Rest in Peace Cici.

Day +8 post transplant admiring my mini office/pantry in my room. The BMT/Hematology team here at @huntsmancancerinstitute want me to get as many calories as possible and from any source. So I’m definitely taking their requests to heart.... tmblr.co/Z57c4xanOakVaq

Running raw during a spike in the pandemic due to my compromised immune system is something I’m not looking forward to. Wish me luck and I know I’ve got this! Life is good.

This to be honest is going to be mentally difficult being away from the studio for so long. Oh and did I mention I’ll have to wait all that time before I can receive my covid vaccine?

All this plus not having any white blood cells. I’ll need to be isolated in my hospital room not being able to venture out into even the hallways of the BMT ward. Once my blood levels return to normal I need to stay in SLC having weekly checkups at HCI for another 2 months.

I’ll be recovering in the BMT ward for about 4 weeks until my new bone marrow stabilizes and starts making blood. These 4 weeks are going to be hard physically so daily visits from a PT will be on the agenda plus a stationary bike ride at least 3-4 times a day.

At the end of this (hopefully) will be the final regiment of chemo, I’ll receive my new stem cells. Oh, did I mention the fact that I have a donor with an exact match? The donor’s bone marrow matches all my DNA makers perfectly so I might not need to be on anti-rejection meds!

September 1st I’m being once again admitted to BMT unit the HCI for preparing my body to accept the transplant. I will go through 5-8 days of “conditioning” which is an intense chemotherapy aimed to kill off my existing bone marrow.

This coming Monday I will be back at the Huntsman Cancer Institute for a battery of appointments and tests to make sure I’m ready both mentally and physically for a bone marrow stem cell transplant. But will be returning here to the studio the following Saturday.

All during this I was getting blood tests three (3) times a week to see how my blood counts were doing. Happy to say my counts are returning to normal less my white blood cell counts which are still below where they should be.

The first 2 weeks of my stay back here at the studio was a daily regiment of oral chemotherapy which really takes a toll on my energy levels and mental well being but, I made it through the process with only one transfusion of blood.

210814 update My journey through the US health system and AML takes another step towards a full recovery. For the past 6 weeks I’ve been at home slowly recovering my health enough to go through (hopefully) the last part of my treatments at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
