The title explains itself really, I'm a new author and I want to hear what girls my potential readers would want to read. So I'll start, kitsune and elves are my thing. Also, some more exotic stuff would be spider girls (not Arachne but like Trel from Tamer by Michael-Scott Earle) and Lamia. Now your turn my dudes and dudettes.

Meaning, there is

  • no jealousy plot or love triangle.

  • The mc and his girlfriend don't break up. (Opposite of Marvel/DC where it seems every character has been with each other and the relationship somehow ends in a disaster)

  • The book is not filled with angst.

  • The mc doesn't shares most of the screentime with a girl that is not his girlfriend and his girlfriends is nowhere to be seen.

I ask this because using jealousy or love triangle for drama has unfortunately become quite common, so much so that many mainstream books use this.

Power Fantasy will be a plus where the mc either becomes powerful or is already powerful. Power can be traded with intelligence, wealth or influence.

Any genre will do.

Also, I am open to Recommendation to books or to groups/subreddit with similar taste.

Note: It doesn't necessarily have to be monogamy but will be preferred.

Thank you for your time

I just finished book 2 of Dragon's Justice by Bruce Sentar (I'm an audio-only) and I need more. First off, I've heard the 3rd book is coming out on audio soon so if anyone knows a time guesstimiate for when it comes out that would be cool to know.

Anyway, I'm looking for more of a good story with a harem rather than a harem with a story. Zack honestly is a good mc by my usual standards, not just the standards I reserve for a harem mc. He isn't an annoy try too hard gigachad but he isn't spineless, he just doesn't take shit from others without being a douche. Sure there are times where I had to stop and groan with how he acted cause I wish he throw his weight around a little more but in character for him along with the whole hiding his identity so I quickly got over it. However, Zack never felt like he was getting to power as the stakes kept rising and nothing felt to deus ex machina (except for the end fight of book 2) and I love the evolution of his character as he accepted his draconic half and the norms of the paraworld.

Then there were the girls, they felt like actual people with different emotions and desires rather than just wanting to ride the dragon such as Kelly and the situation with her pack. Bruce took time to build them as characters before sexy times so by the time said sexy time happened it felt like he worked for it rather than they threw themselves at for the sake of the plot even for the girls that aren't immediately clear that they will join his harem like Kelly and Morgana.

Also not every guy was either incompetent or a rapist, I mean Frank (his best friend from college) although not getting a lot of screen time was one of my favorite characters and for once I didn't hate the overprotective father characters. The best part was that the world feels unique and has an internal logic to it that doesn't break my immersion with natural conflict that didn't just revolve around the MC.

So if there is something where the plot takes just as much priority as the harem and the mc isn't just on one side of beta to chad scale I would love to hear some rec.

P.s. don't really care if the mc is weak or strong just if is well written along with the rest of the story.

Then and now, a TV series is seen as having “jumped the shark” when it reaches a pointed new low in terms of quality or gimmickry. It usually signals that the TV show has lost it's way from it's original premise.

We have a lot of harem series that run for a really long time, usually until the readership levels fall below whatever profitability threshold the author has, and then there is a quick wrap-up book to close it out.

My question is, what should be the Harem version of "Jumped the shark" be? That plot device or trope being introduced that spells doom to the series as going downhill for you. It doesn't have to mean you left the series, and the series may even recover from the plot device/trope, but it was a low point that may have you questioning why you are reading it.

I'm looking for some data. There's a lot of opinions out there about how long a harem series should be. A lot of people say a trilogy or thereabouts is best, but then obviously some people clearly want 20+ novel series, and that's a pretty wide margin. What do you think?

Out of all the 'dere types, Kuuderes get the least amount of love imo. Far too often, it's all about the girls who throw themselves at either an oblivious or reluctant MC.

I feel the very nature of most harems precludes the cold, quiet type that doesn't know how to express their feelings, because when would MC the have time to chase the quiet, reserved girl when doing main character stuff?

Or an I wrong and there are a mountain of kuudere babes in haremlit that I just don't know about?

Hey! I'm fairly new to the genre, and I wanted to know if there were any good sites like RoyalRoad to read on.

I also wanted to know if there were places books were sold other than amazon?

Finally, I wanted to know the most limit-shattering books you know of in the genre :P

So I have read upto middle of the third book and I dropped the series after that.

It was nice with a touch of realism that made me appreciate the author efforts at start of the novel.

Then started coming different issues atleast for me...

  1. See basically for the first 2 books ,MC basically doesn't know anything about what type of supernatural he was. I know many would say it would be more fun the longer we hide some info , but for me it was constant turn off when I see mc using powers without explanation for first two books. Although at the last of second book it was revealed but still this issue has become an irritation for me .

  2. There is then another issue that how the mc is manipulated, you see one of his girl who is succubus, her mother proceeds to fuck with him , then removed his memories. And the reason for that is because MC is a rare supernatural and she can conceive a powerful child which would add another tool to her cabal. And the most disturbing thing is that after their mating session ,his succubus was like how unique MC was for resisting her mother charms cause they don't know that he had his memory wiped out and her mother do something to remove her smell from him. And most fking issue is that MC didn't even know that he had made her gf's mother pregnant. Although I think he would come to know at some point but still it became a major issue for me to continue .

I know I’ve probably eliminated about 75% of titles but I’m just kinda tired of the same thing. Every time I pick up a story 4/5 they follow one if not all of the mentioned above.

I’ve read and enjoyed stories by Michael Dalton, Logan Jacobs (hit and miss at times), Randi Darren’s Wastes, Eric Vall (more misses than hits), and Rex Sterling (guy literally copies and paste the characters each story and gives them same name but switches it to a different character).

I’ve recently Bruce Sentar story on Supervillains and I was disappointed. Had an excellent premise but they MC fell for pretty much some tropes as is typical for harem story. Not to mention MC was a major crybaby and in no way shape or form acted like a man in his mid 40’s but angst ridden Holden Caulfield.

I’m just getting kind of tired of the same formulas and I’m looking for something new. Where a character actually deserves to have a harem .

Any recommendations is appreciated.
