SAN DIEGO, Aug. 6 -- Authorities have confirmed that a San Diego attorney and a San Diego State student were aboard the Korean jetliner that went down in Guam, killing more than 200 people. The families of 37-year-old lawyer Wendy Bunten and 24-year-old Sean Burke announced today that the couple was traveling to Guam for a month- long scuba-diving vacation when they were killed in the crash of Korean Air Lines flight 801.
Bunten, who had two children, and Burke had just moved from Minnesota to San Diego last December. Bunten's family released a statement that read, 'Our family is devastated by her passing and is trying to cope with her loss. We would like Wendy to be remembered for the generous, caring person she was.' The downed plane was carrying 231 passengers and a crew of 23. So far, authorities say 30 people have survived, including 23 South Koreans, five Americans, one New Zealander and one 11-year-old Japanese girl. The flight was en route from Seoul to Guam and was carrying 20 U.S. citizens when it crashed early Wednesday morning in heavy rain about three miles from the airport. ---
