A few of you have taken issue with me saying Russians may look European they’re not European.
Let me explain.
1. 77% of Russia is in Asia, not Europe. Some people don’t seem to know that.

2. If we consider ‘European’ to be a set of values rather let’s take a look at the World Values Survey which clusters the world into different cultural hubs.

3. My point is that Russia looks at this conflict in a different way than we do. That is a fact.

4. Still convinced it’s all Putin and not the Russian people? Take a look at this 2015 survey.

6. Perhaps most importantly: do Russians think they’re European? Some do, some don’t: but they certainly don’t think of themselves as EU European. And that was my point last night.

7. Last but not last. Saying somebody is different from you means you acknowledge the difference and respect it. Perhaps that is more important than… thinking everybody is just like you? Food for thought.

??? That’s like saying Denmark really is American because Greenland belongs to it. Ridiculous argument. Most inhabitants of the Russian federation live in Europe and policy is made in Europe too.

It's not the point she made, it's her excuse she's coming up with. It's just good to know what kind of person she is.

My look European... So how do your explain Moria, or puh backs. I think Russians are really really European in any regards. And Europeans are Humans, who try to wet them selfs apart by saying the are better than others.

I love it when people make racist statements and try to prove them with sources afterwards. What is the proportion of the Russian population divided between Europe and Asia? Is there evidence that Russians honour life less?

Perhaps it also depends on the Russians' self-image.
Presumably, educated citizens in the big cities see themselves more as Europeans, while others are more attached to the neo-Soviet ideology of a Greater Eurasia.

First of all, princes of Moscow became strong and relevant by working as tax collectors for the Horde. Thus they concentrated enough resources and bought enough land to become the dominant state in Russia. So the rise of Moscow was largely due to external influence of the Tatars

Much of what you say in these talk shows makes sense, but in this instance you went too far. Why don't you just say that you misspoke and apologize?

Nope, you’re one of few people who see this right.
Please keep telling the truth about the russian mindset.

Apart from the fact that cultural essentialism is always flawed, the way in which you invoke the WVS here would suggest that all of "Orthodox Europe" (incl. Russia AND Ukraine) looks at the conflict in the *same* way.

So. Asians kill each other all the time, whereas Europeans don't? If not: How is Russia being 77% Asian relevant for your argument?
