Yeah I ended up using that. Turned out MSI stealthily updated Intel RST from 16.0 to 16.5 without putting it in the release notes for the BIOS, so all is good.
MSI's public changelog is pretty useless. Sometimes the betas that aren't published through their www site include very detailed changes. Typically they match their drivers to the updated rom so the drivers posted would now be for the 16.5 series, ie. 16.5.0.1027...
Put that in your platform.ini file and save. Try flashing your bios with a 'safe' bios (preferably of the same version or higher). The flashing tool will dump your bios here: C:\Bios.fd ...… before flashing the new one. Spoiler [BackupROM] Flag=1 FilePath=c:\ FileName=Bios.fd
