Reason behind plan upgrades?

Hi, I’d like to know the reason behind the reduction of the storage space for the freemium plan and why the WP Personal plan upgrades are no longer there?
Also, the $15/month is way steeper than the previous plans. Some of us find it difficult to pay $15/month, let alone pay $180 on one go, which is what you are asking for.
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: felixfelicitatedblog.wordpress.com
This is a great question, Im frustrated with the new pricing option. I would like more info on why the change as well. For small upstarts, 180, its alot especially all at one time with no more monthly pay options wow.
We recently have updated our plan offerings. At the moment, new free sites have a limit of 500 MB storage, while the Pro plan offers 50 GB. This presently does not affect free sites prior to the new plan updates.
Our goal with these pricing changes is to make the benefits of WordPress.com available to more people. We’ve slashed the price of our older Business plan from $25/mo to just $15/mo. (paid annually).
Please stay tuned! In the near future we plan to make additional updates making our plans even more accessible.
You say it doesn’t affect current free sites, but I’ve had my blog for 6 years and suddenly my media storage has been cut down to 500mb!? Forcing users to pay for something they’ve had access to for years is horrific practice!
At the moment, this only affects new free sites, not existing free sites.
My site isn’t new though, and I only have 500mb storage…
Hi @hollynrc,
Out of curiosity, are you unable to upload images to your media library? The storage changes were intended to apply to newly created sites only, so you should still be able to upload media, even if it shows as over the limit.
We are having our developers look into this and are happy to update you, but for now if you are not able to upload media, please let us know, thanks!
Me too I am only seeing my storage as 500mb and I have had a free site since 2013.

Hi there,
At the moment the storage space for existing sites is showing at 500MB, yes, but you should still be able to upload media files up to the original 3GB limit. It’s just the indicator that’s wrong, and our developers are working on fixing this.
If you’re not able to upload new files, please let us know, but otherwise this is a known issue we’re already working on.
Thank you most kindly, staff kokkieh. This is excellent. I got REALLY upset for a moment.
Appreciate the prompt response @metabreakr @macmanx @jerrysarcastic @kokkieh
Thanks!
I really got upset after this changed plans. I was creating personal website for a month. I wanted to have a personal plan and wanted to pay but they made it 15$ for a month. So I stop using wordpress and will pay this money for another website builders. Great that you lose one customer. Make another plans or people stop to use your website builder
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to update you that the issue with the media storage display has been fixed. If you have a site created before 31 March, you should again see the correct 3GB storage limit.
The new plans are still bad. The free plans shouldn’t change because many use WP for a hobby or a personal blog. This is not cool.
@akobirbozorov2003 and @tonyburgess1969, thanks for the feedback on this. We’ll get it noted for you.
@akobirbozorov2003, just so I can get your feedback noted properly, can you let us know which features you needed from the personal plan?
For me the problems are the massive reduction in storage from 3GB to 0.5GM along with this new notion of maximum views, set quite low. I think those two combined will likely drive a lot of people away.
Hey folks. We’re working to get this feedback sorted — would you mind sharing your thoughts here?
https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/pricing-feedback/We have answered some of the questions you’ve shared. We’ll be working through the comments there as well. Thanks in advance.
Also, I think I’ll go ahead and close this one for now. Having the details in one thread with a post we can update helps us locate and quantify the different requests so we can work on addressing them. I’m tagging this thread with feedback as well, but we’ll be posting any updates and responses here:
