Archiving! Want to help?
There are free internet archives where we can theoretically save Duolingo forums. But for some reason, the biggest one (Wayback Machine) isn't able to save and display Duolingo forums (except sentence discussions, none of which will be deleted or need to be saved now). So here is another one, Archive.today:
archive.is
1. Put your to-save link here:
-
If you have an old Duolingo link, make sure you've also tried to type in its newer version. The new ones are using the word "forum" instead of "www", so it's https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/15241957 instead of https://www.duolingo.com/comment/15241957.
-
If you now see "This page was last archived Х years ago", click the cross
and check if any of these previous versions are okay. If so, you can just use an existing version instead of creating a new one, thus saving your time and not making an unnecessary duplicate.
2. Share the archive link here and/or on Duome (unofficial Duolingo forum that won't be deleted).
- Create an account on Duome: https://forum.duome.eu/ucp.php?mode=register.
- Where to share your archive links:
- learning a language from English
- or General English Forum
- or other forum sections
Why is sharing important? It's quite difficult to find an article in the archive without knowing its web address, even when the article is definitely somewhere out there. So it's better to find an appropriate way to make your archive link noticeable (for instance, you may group your archive links and make a new thread called "French prepositions" on Duome).
Notice
that there already is an existent Russian Duolingo archive, where you can find many "XXX from Russian" articles, as well as some "Russian from English" + Hungarian grammar + French→Italian articles: https://duolingo-ru-forum-archive.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_8.html. So you may want to check if your to-save post is already there and hence doesn't need to be urgently added to Archive.today.
If you've come across any other Duolingo archives, or effective ways of saving the forums, or anything else that can be useful at all – let me know in the comments, and I'll edit this post accordingly.
