Brent's death is a terrible loss. Brave journalists like Brent take tremendous risks to bear witness and to tell the world about the devastation and suffering caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Odd tone to the statement, imho, more like “nothing to do with us”than outrage at a journalist being murdered,

Yeah, I'd prefer at least that the lines about the lost were longer than the ones to refute the assignment...

Actually, no, they have to correct the incorrect statements out there that he was killed while on assignment for NYT. He was using an old NYT press pass. People think NYT put him in that position, which they had nothing to do with.

Weird statement…
Then why did he carry his NYT press card with him?

It doesn't seem like the best time to make these clarifications.

And when then? They have to clarify asap because people would start doing what they love to do the most - trying to blame & cancel them.

Needless death at the hands of a monster who is relentlessly taunting the West. RIP.

Using a badge at least 7 years old? That sounds very suspicious...but maybe his actual employer was just less well known, and he hoped the recognition would help him...

Looks like #BrentRenaud was part of documentary film collab with his brother, capturing events as they happened in the world hot spots. Much respect & RIP. Sad that it ends this way

If a person writes "X, but Y" it usually means they do not really mean the "X".
Shameful.

The New York Times is not what it used to be. Good on those who’ve followed a different and truthful path.

This is not a weird statement to put out. He obviously was carrying an old badge because he thought it might help him gain access - not unheard of - RIP, he seemed to do a lot of socially conscious work in his career -

Other reporters are speaking up to say how videographers work, how clearly they are id'd in their vehicles and on their person - and how respected and well known Renaud was in his field.

They no longer know how.

Your statement is very off key as though you were disowning him.
