Nobody should use Google as a search engine. In general, we should abandon all products related to Google once alternatives with at least similar capabilities are available (list of Google alternatives).
DuckDuckGo was the search engine I used as an alternative for now, but it seems like the company is going down the woke road as well. Here is a link to a German website, where a reader posted two resumes he used to apply for a job at DuckDuckGo: IT Fachkräftemangel
The first one was a regular resume of a male mobile developer with years of experience and lots of qualifications. The second was a typical diversity resume of a less qualified and experienced developer with a migration background and obvious woke intentions – you can read both resumes on the website I linked to as they are in English.
The response from DuckDuckGo differed depending on the resumes. The first one said:
While we appreciate your application, we decided to move forward with other candidates whose skills and experience are a closer match to our requirements for this specific role.
The second one, though, said:
We’re excited that you’ve applied for the Senior iOS Engineer […] role with us here at DuckDuckGo […] and think you could be a fit.
The resumes were set up to reflect that being a diversity stereotype gets you the job even if you are less qualified than other applicants. Using political buzzwords, a name that indicated a minority gender and ethnic background, and making clear that the motivation to work for DuckDuckGo is also about social change lead to preferential treatment during the hiring process.
If it turns out that this wasn’t made up, and instead portraits the hiring practice of DuckDuckGo, the company and its service are going down the same road Google went down and need to be avoided. If legit, DuckDuckGo can’t be an alternative for Google long-term – it is only a matter of time until they politically filter their search results to brainwash users and sell our data to other companies and the state, if they aren’t doing that already.
Maybe Qwant might be the better engine to use.
