"In them Collins, who is Black, said Asian Americans used “white supremacist” thinking to get ahead and were racist toward Black students."
Holy shit how do you be this tone deaf and then refuse to take down the tweets
Asian Americans used “white supremacist” thinking to get ahead
What ever Asians are doing more should try and do it too
Imagine seeing a group of people ahead in school and thinking "we need to be less like them".
No, no, no... you just don't understand that race is a social construct and that to act 'white' is simply to adopt a series of bigoted and exclusionary attitudes that most white people hold. /s
"In them Collins, who is Black
She looks white, and is married to an ultra rich real estate developer.
She knows oppression like Danny DeVito knows how to play in the NBA.
Wow so a Democratic city rejected incompetent members who supported bigoted statements. That’s good stuff.
"In them Collins, who is Black, said Asian Americans used “white supremacist” thinking to get ahead and were racist toward Black students."
If only we could assign a name to such an ideology so that it could be more easily identified and attacked. Can't call it something someone else says means something slightly different, that would be too confusing. Let's call it CRI: Critical Race Ideas.
San Francisco is plurality Asian, right? What kind of politician is stupid enough to insult their electorate like this?
Rose Twitter calling this a right wing coup, meanwhile more people voted for the recall than people who voted for Trump. Also Asian American majority neighborhoods voted 80%+ for recall. Those are dictator level margins
Indeed, I am sure all 7 Republicans in San Francisco supported the recall.
The far left claiming progressives are losing because of fraudulent elections are just as dumb as the trumpers claiming the election was stolen
Equally funny is the GOP saying this is a revolt against Democrats. The whole Democratic Party establishment including the mayor supported the recall but sure
they believe that centrist, moderates, neo-liberal are right wing
The far-left still can't process being called racist. They see themselves as above reproach from being racist simply by virtue of their politics, and that gives them leeway to say and do racist things consistently.
Then when they get called out on it, they are shocked and offended because it doesn't register in their minds that they could ever be considered racist.
Nevermind that their movement is almost 90% white people.

I haven't followed this at all so when I first saw the headlines I was concerned that this recall system was like the CA governor recall system, where they would be replaced by someone on a 2nd ballot who would likely be a Republican.
But they will be replaced by someone the mayor picks. This is more like a Democratic primary, probably some noncontroversial establishment figure, unlike the insane Governor recall system.
I’d bet statewide at least, but their population is still pretty small. Though projected to grow at a fast pace.
New immigrant demographics will be important politically. Asians are outpacing Hispanics in new arrivals.
I'm dubious how true that is. Voter participation in more Asian neighborhoods remained pretty lackluster. Notably lower than more white areas. Even Chinatown managed to get only 29% participation.
Being so woke that you’re racist is bad.
Abandoning meritocracy is bad.
Getting rid of schools named Lincoln is bad.
Closing schools is bad.
Nearly 80%. In San Francisco. There is a lesson here
There is a lesson here
This reminds me of the Christian on a roof during a flood joke. The Dems have gotten:
Yungkin in newly blue VA over CRT
Recall of school board members in SF over school wokeness
And the most conservative Dem candidate for mayor in NYC over perceived increases crime.
If Dems refuse to address the center-left on these issues, come Nov 2022, God will be explaining that he sent plenty of warnings about the blowout.
Also there’s a lesson here about pissing off San Francisco’s Chinese American residents. Mainly: don’t do that.
Really the SF school board was just an example of the most egregiously embarrassing example of ideological stupidity.
Is like the house is burning down around you, and you’re spending time covering up the piles of dirty laundry in the bedroom. That’s what voters saw.
Peoplpe who were just basically so completely disconnected from the reality that they were utterly incompetent.
And focusing on any of that when in a pandemic-fueled crisis is monumentally stupid.
Opponents called the recall a waste of time and money, as the district faces a number of challenges including a $125 million budget deficit
HOW?????
For instance, San Francisco Unified School District received $186 million and still has $134 million unspent.
They still have massive amounts of covid funds so like...where is the money going?
For the school board member's 87 million dollar lawsuit against the board
You can have extra money on hand while still having a deficit.
They have a deficit. They received a ton of COVID funds. They still have the deficit as those one time funds don't affect yearly overall money in money out.
Never underestimate the capacity of a bureaucracy for inefficiency.
Calling Asian parents house n****rs is probably not helpful in SF.
High on a hilltop

Abraham Lincoln
We will honor thee forever
Thy sons and daughters
However long the trail
Always will remember thee
Hail! Hail! Hail!
You don't mess with Lincoln. This was a single issue election.
(maybe there were other issues)
Wokeism lost… in San Francisco…. By 50%. If anyone still needed proof that twitter doesn’t represent real life voters.
EDIT: We can also infer from these results that Chesa Boudin is a dead man walking.
Unfortunately I have little faith that developments like these will get broad coverage. The media salivates for cases of wingnut politicians pushing insane positions; it's easy drama to sell. Hence the absolute fixation on people like AOC & the Squad regardless of how far out of mainstream Democratic policies their positions are.
So, extremists define the party's face even though in situations like this they are being rejected by a broad majority.
That shit is starting to get more and more backlash on twitter.
Methinks it might be just a trend like everything else now.
If these school board members had done this woke renaming shit while also governing competently dealing with COVID they would have probably gotten positive reviews.
Apparently they get replaced by appointees of the mayor, so this makes sense to me. They will get replaced by establishment Democrats who will make the school board less controversial. This is more analogous to a Democratic primary, not a victory for Republicans.
This is not like the insane system for recalling Governor's recall where the incumbent can lose the recall with 49% of the vote and be replaced by someone who got 30% of the second ballot.
Being too left-wing for San Francisco is like losing an election in Alabama because you were too right-wing. (Though that did happen, sort of, with Roy Moore.)
That had absolutely nothing to do with Moore’s politics. But I do agree that trying to fuck high school girls at HS football games as a grown man is, in essence, a fundamental tenet of conservatism.
As someone who is Asian and not from San Francisco, the only thing I can add to this is that it's depressing that the Asian-Black axis is rising as a social narrative in conflicts like these. Pitting Asians, who are stereotypically high-performing immigrants, against blacks, who have been othered so long in America that they occupy a role akin to immigrants yet share no kinship with immigrants, is jostling for position in a racial hierarchy, which can be tacit acceptance of racial hierarchy.
I just want a cosmopolitan society, is that too much to ask? Can we stop stunting and do real work indeed? The names of schools are symbols, symbols develop out of the underlying cultures that birth them, work on the culture instead of playing with the symbols. You will never impose the correct opinions by imposing on how people express themselves. Just do the work and people will come to your point of view out of sheer empathy.
Fucking San Francisco.
Black-Asian racial tensions is absolutely nothing new for the Bay Area sadly. It’s a century-long conflict that’s been a thing ever since Asian immigrants moved to San Francisco in the 1900s and large black populations moved to the area during WW2 which left both groups competing for the limited segregated housing. Tensions during the Rodney King riots were especially rough.
Left-wing ideologues will never ever learn. They did exactly this in the 70s and 80s to Jews and succeeded in turning an entire generation of Jews against them and raising an ascendant Jewish intellectual tradition of conservatism that blew apart the dead 70s-80s left wing consensus. Exactly the same thing will happen with Asians. Jews and Asians are too similar for it not to happen.
You say “pitting” as if a third party was pulling the strings. As far as I can tell, it’s the white political and media leadership trying to force cross-POC alliances where interests aren’t shared.
They literally are though, one of the most Democratic cities in the country just voted to recall these board members that were weighing them down by an insane margin.
Correct, and so tragic at the same time. As the GOP spins off into craziness/fascism/anti-science/anti-everything, the Dems should be cleaning up at the ballot box. Instead, they invent new ways to score own goals and keep the Repubs in the game. I can only shake my head ruefully and wait for the backlash in Nov.
What does a local school board race have to with national politics? What national issues did the school board members run on?
Racism is power + prejudice sweaty. It’s impossible for black people to be racist
Some black people (I find usually African Americans) are more likely to think like that. The idea is that since they have less power in society they can't be racist (nonsense in my opinion). I would not say most reasonable black people think like this, African American or not.
We don’t. It’s just these elite white wokists giving these clowns a platform and electing them to office. Good riddance.
I'm an immigrant but I realized the US has gone full woke when I took my SAT in a good US school and the walls had more far left messaging than the humanities department in the public university in my home country
I think we need to recognize something more important. This is a example of systemic racism against Asians and frankly if this woman wasn’t so vocal she’d get away with it.
I see it a lot in public schools where Asian needs are not cared about in favor of blacks or Latinos.
What are you talking about? Aoc just leveraged to get a vote on banning congress from stock trading. Based af
AOC genuinely focuses on (leftist) policy and not performative ‘wokeism’; she’s not comparable to the SF board.
You’ve been the victim of cheap misinformation if you think AOC is anywhere near this stuff. Stick to policy.
2nd gen Asians and I imagine other liberal elites can get behind blurring the edges of meritocracy. We do this in order to lift outcomes from cyclic poverty and support BIPOC American communities.
In no way does it make sense for 1st gen immigrants to get behind this. What social capital do first generation immigrants have?
If affirmative action is needed in order to whittle away cyclic poverty that’s fine — but do it by economic status and situation instead of race.
For the record SF asians don't give a fuck whether some race-first leftists want to change the name of a high school from Abraham Lincoln High to Stokely Carmichael High (or whatever). They care about their kids kicking ass on the rest of us lazy Americans. Here's the future: Tribe against Tribe. Enjoy, America!
words have meaning folks
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressivism
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/progressivism
a social or political movement that aims to represent the interests of ordinary people through political change and the support of government actions
it is curious that r/_neoliberal would promote the pollution of discourse. doing so comes across as professing an opposition to exploitation and reactionary ideologies, while actively promoting confusion that happens to favor inegalatarian policy. weird
the standard all US civil rights laws is written under is equality of opportunity. it is a good standard (often ignored of course). go read Rawls folks
what a funny guy with funny ideas. what do you suppose fair resource allocation would look like between the intellectually gifted and ordinary people. that Rawls fellow would probably say something like: from each according to their ability, to each according to their need... and that we have a moral obligation to provide a nourishing middle class life for even the least fortunate. damn, that kind of sounds like representing the interests of ordinary people (inclusive). weirdo
Imagine unironically opposing gifted/selective programs.
Waitaminnut, there are children in San Francisco? I thought it was like that country in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
And we all know standardized testing is a shit predictor for student outcomes, you’re probably better off with a lottery anyway.
GPA and Test scores combined are by far the best indicator of academic performance we have.
My sympathy for unvaccinated teachers is really limited at this point.
If you’re vaccinated/boosted there is no real risk of “dying on the job”, the numbers are clear. The only reason corporate America hasn’t gone back to in-person work is because of employee preferences combined with labor market dynamics. You can’t expect students to achieve the same quality of education and socialization through online means, it’s unreasonable.
Schools shouldn't have been renamed in the first place. Erasing lincoln's name from schools? What a fucking joke.
