Can you imagine a modern, 21st century army storming and occupying a major world capital? With Ukrainians determined to fight back, the Russians will show no mercy. The worst-case scenario here is truly apocalyptic. We're talking Warsaw ghetto. Grozny 1999.

I don't know of this is the most likely thing to happen, or even very likely. But it's clearly not some kind of 1% black swan.

The last time the Russians got tired of the whole urban warfare "annoyance" in the 90s. Kyiv is a city over one thousand years old, and it's about to face major destruction. Europe, enjoy your cheap gas, though!

What are you guys talking about here? Noone's going to war. If the media goes all-in, as if by command, into scaremongering, the most sensible approach is just to ignore what they say.

why do you think Russia has gathered 130,000+ troops on the Ukrainian border?

Reportedly, the Russians say there are jihadists in the Donbas. This isn’t just defending Mother Russia, it’s a holy war.

I suspect if Russia does move, they will surround Kyiv but not enter. Stranglehold to effect a change of regime. Odessa will also be taken to stop supplying the city. Meanwhile eastern region of Ukraine will be entered to further wrest from Ukraine.

War is awful. Always has been, always will be. Even when war is necessary against an existential threat, it's still horrifying. Why do autocrats like Putin want war so much? Is it because they just don't care about the suffering or pain of other people? Pieces moving on a board.

We all hope sanity prevails. This issue can be resolved politically if future security guarantees are given to Russia. I am no fan of Putin but Russians don't want Nato nukes minutes away from Moscow.
