In addition to being called by familiar ‘Ty’ by Putin, Macron does not get a motorcade at his plane - forced to go through terminal Seems like Russia wanted to make a point

Удивительно, но Макрону не подали кортеж к борту. Пошел через правительственный терминал

In effect, Putin is saying .. War and peace in Europe is not in France's or Germany's hands.. that they have handed over control to US..and he wants to make sure that Macron feels it..

It is. The Western fellow travelers need to realize this. Putin understands force and force only. Well past time to arm the hell out of Ukraine and prepare for total economic blockade of all things Russian if Moscow furthers its invasion.

I think it is the totality of the signs in the staging of the encounter that count as the signal. The informality in addressing each other, having to walk through a terminal, the use of a really long table (signifying distance?) ... Macron looking like a supplicant.

I'm not sure who spoke first, but Macron in his remarks referred to Putin as "Vladimir," so the familiar might not be so rude in the context of a conversation that had already slipped into that tone. Unusual in front of the cameras, of course.

I've noticed that Putin often uses the diminutive when addressing leaders of other nations. Unless you speak or have studied Russian you don't get that it is an insult.

Informal "you" instead of the formal "you". Doesn't exist in English. In some circumstances, using the "informal you" can be a power-play and/or disrespectful.

It is not common at all; but indeed Macron addresses Putin with the informal pronoun “tu” rather than “vous”. Can also be a sign of proximity rather than disrespect. It’s odd in a public setting and highly unusual in front of journalists

At least Putin didn’t threaten to “shirtfront” (ie physically assault or ‘deck’) as a former Australian conservative PM did so threaten to do to Putin.

It’s only the beginning. Putin will humiliate Macron, because he has an interest in him losing the elections this year to an ally the likes of Zemmour, Lepen or even Pécresse.
