CPPCC list includes 200 HK delegates

HONG KONG - Some 200 delegates from Hong Kong are on the 2,158-strong member list for the13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the country’s top political advisory body, which was released on Wednesday. 

Delegates will serve a five-year term, starting in March.

Former chief executives Tung Chee-hwa and Leung Chun-ying have been re-elected as CPPCC vice chairmen

The 200 Hong Kong delegates include former director-general of the World Health Organization Margaret Chan Fung Fu-chun, 70, who was elected for the first time.

Other new faces include principal officials from earlier special administrative region governments – former secretary for security Lai Tung-kwok, former secretary for food and health Ko Wing-man and former commissioner of police Andy Tsang Wai-hung.

First-time delegates also include Starry Lee Wai-king, lawmaker and chairperson of Hong Kong’s largest political party, the of Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, and Lo Wai-kwok, lawmaker from the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong.

A number of Hong Kong professionals – including Chairman of the Hong Kong Coalition of Professional Services Kaizer Lau Ping-cheung, Chief Executive of HKEx Group Charles Li Xiaojia and Chairman of Sun Hung Kai Properties Raymond Kwok Ping-luen – are also among the new CPPCC members.

The youngest Hong Kong delegate is Karson Choi Ka-tsan, 32, vice-chairman of Early Light International Holdings.

Former chief executives Tung Chee-hwa and Leung Chun-ying have been re-elected as CPPCC vice chairmen.
