Handling of Personal Information in Insurance Agency Business
JCB is entrusted by insurance companies and operates the insurance agency business.
In view of the importance of personal information protection, and in order to further improve the trust of society in the business related to life insurance solicitation and non-life insurance agency business, JCB will collect and handle the customer’s personal information in accordance with the Act on Protection of Personal information, other applicable laws and regulations, and related guidelines issued by government agencies as follows:
1. Information collected, held, used and outsourced by JCB
- 1.
Personal information obtained from customers or insurance companies in conducting business related to solicitation of life insurance and non-life insurance agency business entrusted by insurance companies.
- 2.
Personal information collected by JCB in a proper and legal manner in the process of conducting credit card business.
- 3.
Information stated in documents issued by public organizations, including, without limitation, resident certificates, collected by JCB in an appropriate and lawful manner (necessary information described in 1. above may be disclosed to public organizations in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations for application for the issuance of such documents to public organizations)
- 4.
Information stated in telephone directories, residential maps, official gazettes, etc.
2. Purpose of Use
JCB may use the collected personal information to the extent necessary to carry out the following business. In addition, JCB has transactions with multiple insurance companies, and JCB may use the collected personal information to propose other products and services with which we have transactions. The collected personal information will not be used for any other purpose. When changing the purpose of use, the change may be made only to the extent that it is reasonably considered to be relevant, and JCB will notify the principal of the change in writing, etc. in principle or publish it on the JCB website, etc.
Business of insurance companies such as life insurance, non-life insurance, and the provision, guidance, maintenance and management of services incidental to and related to them handled or offered by JCB (i.e., JCB may use personal information for such business as an insurance agent, and the insurance companies which entrust the agency business to JCB (limited to the insurance companies to which the customer applies for insurance) may also use personal information for such business

3. Provision to a third party
JCB will not provide personal data to a third party without the consent of the principal, except in any of the following cases:
- 1.
cases based on laws and regulations
- 2.
cases in which there is a need to protect a human life, body or property, and when it is difficult to obtain the principal’s consent
- 3.
cases in which there is a special need to enhance public hygiene or promote fostering healthy children, and when it is difficult to obtain the principal’s consent
- 4.
cases in which there is a need to cooperate in regard to a central government organization or a local government, or a person entrusted by them performing affairs prescribed by laws and regulations, and when there is a possibility that obtaining the principal’s consent would interfere with the performance of the said affairs
4. Suspension of Sending Promotional Materials and Phone Call relating to JCB’s Insurance Business
If the customer wishes to suspend receiving promotional materials, such as direct mails, or telephone calls, etc., JCB will suspend this. However, please note that materials necessary for business operations, such as statement of charge, and member magazine and pamphlet, etc. enclosed in statements of charge will not be suspended. Requests for the suspension will be accepted by the Insurance Group of the Products and Services Department listed at the bottom of this page.
5. Handling of Sensitive Information
JCB will not collect, use or provide a third party with the information on political views, religion (religion, thought and beliefs), trade union membership, race and ethnicity, family and registered domicile, health and medical care and sexual life, and criminal history (collectively, “Sensitive Information”) except in any of the following cases:
- 1.
cases based on laws and regulations
- 2.
cases in which there is a need to protect human life, body or property
- 3.
cases in which there is a special need to enhance public hygiene or promote fostering healthy children
- 4.
cases in which there is a need to cooperate with a central government organization or a local government, or a person entrusted by them, in carrying out the affairs prescribed by laws and regulations
- 5.
cases collecting, using, or providing to a third party Sensitive Information, such as information on affiliation or membership in political or religious organizations or labor unions by employees, etc., to the extent necessary for carrying out insurance premium collection, etc.
- 6.
cases collecting, using, or providing to a third party Sensitive Information as long as it is necessary to carry out payment of insurance claims in inheritance procedures, etc.
- 7.
cases collecting, using, or providing to a third party Sensitive Information to the extent necessary for business operation based on the consent of the principal due to the necessity of ensuring proper operation of the insurance business
6. Disclosure, Correction, Deletion
Requests for disclosure, correction, deletion, etc. of retained personal data based on the Act of Protection of Personal Information will be processed after confirming that the requester is the principal himself / herself. Disclosure, correction, and deletion of personal data held by JCB will be handled as stipulated in “Handling of Personal Information in Credit Card Business”. Disclosure, Correction, Deletion, etc. of Personal data held by the insurance company will be handled by the insurance company, and JCB will convey your request to the insurance company (a prescribed fee may be charged for procedures of disclosure, etc. by the insurance company). As a result of conducting necessary investigations regarding the personal data held by JCB, if the information on the principal is inaccurate, JCB may change it to an accurate one based on the result. 7. Response to Inquiries and Complaints
JCB will promptly respond to complaints and inquiries regarding the handling of personal information. The contact information is as follows. Please note that JCB will respond after confirming that the inquirer is the principal in question
