Welcoming group are models for peace and love for humanity

I want to commend Lori Lippitz and her associates for their wonderful welcoming of a new school to their former school building in Skokie (Mary Schmich's Sept. 24 column).

The former Solomon Schechter Day School had closed and now reopened as MCC Academy, a Muslim school. Instead of reacting in a negative manner, Lippitz and her group contacted a school official and then followed up with a welcoming visit to MCC Academy.

Besides the goodies in their gift baskets, the welcoming group visited the prayer area (it remains so) as well as a Jewish mural (also intact). Most of all, they conveyed hope and joy that another school now lives there.

This is what peace and goodwill look like — welcoming rather than condemning others. It is especially true of the political wildfires that rage in the Middle East. People there  should look at Lippitz and her group as models for peace and love for humanity.
