ジェット機やターボプロップ機は着陸時も逆噴射で強力にタービンを回す。着陸前に滑走路の火山灰がしっかり撤去されていないとたとえ着陸はできてもダメージで再離陸が出来なくなる。

高熱で溶けた火山灰がガラス状になり、それが冷えて固まりタービンにこびりつく。
最悪エンジンが止まる。

当たり前すぎて言うべきか迷う程度ですが、コロナ感染のお産直前の妊婦は、本来なら経腟分娩可能であっても、有無を言わさず即帝王切開になることがあるので、お産が近づいてきたら同居者以外との食事やお茶は控えたほうがいいですよ。あと、夫もね。持ち込んでヨメ帝王切開、だいぶアレ

日曜日の朝、アタタ島とアハウ村で捜索と救助が行われ、行方不明者2名のうち1名は無事でしたがもうひとりの英国人は残念ながら初の死者となりました。これまでに同英国人を含め、マンゴ島の65才の女性、ヌムカ島の49歳の男性の計3名の死亡が確認されています。けが人も多数報告されています。

ニウアス諸島とは通信がとれていませんが、フンガトンガ・フンガハアパイ火山から距離があるため被害は低いと思われます。
国内の電話回線はトンガタプおよびエウアのみ開通しています。
光ファイバーケーブルの損傷のためインターネットはダウンしています。現在復旧作業が進められています。
