And we all know how much of a true saint Eve was toward mankind via her bold act. So how suitable that we should honor her on the appropriately-entitled Christmas Eve!

Interestingly, within the various olden European lands, "elf" was simply one culture's synonym for another culture's "fairy". Two names that mean the same basic creature. The olden-time folk often thought that the fairies/elves were toying with them, when really they were merely attempting to impart information that those folks weren't prepared for. Though such magical beings were also mostly thought of as essentially innocent creatures, which is true.

And "Claus" is a shortened form of Nicholas. The name Nicholas means "victory of the people".
