I hate Doom Eternal

I’m not trying to be an asshole or anything so please don’t downvote me to Hell. Pun intended. But I just despise this new combat system they have in place. They’ve taken everything that made Doom 2016 work flawlessly and just completely fucked it up with constant ammo farming, low ammo on weapons in general, an irritating grenade/flamethrower system etc. Jesus the platforming. Doom 2016 is one of my all time favorite games, and Doom Eternal is breaking my heart in ways I never imagined. I hate this game. Let me know what everyone thinks.

Literally just googled this thread so I can rant a bit.

So I have no problem with the constant ammo farming, despite getting stuck with just a chainsaw and an Arachnotron in one of the earlier levels.

But who in the developer team thought that we needed MORE platforming in an FPS? The complicated timed BS puzzles / platforms just stops the action right on it tracks. One second I feel like Neo from the Matrix, shooting enemies left and right, switching to the right weapon for the right enemy.. the next second I am trying to figure out where to go and cursing at my screen because I miss a double jump by a centimeter. If I wanted to play Tomb Raider, I would have played Tomb Raider.

Yeah. The thing with the Arachnotron and no ammo and no fuel in the chainsaw is something the devs really like very much...
What the fuck were they thinking when they designed this game?

Doom 2016 was great. I really enjoyed Doom 3 (I have played it 3 times) and I bought Doom 2 with its five diskettes when it was originally released.

Doom Eternal is garbage. It's a failed experiment of what it could have been a very good game.

I googled the thread you googled to say the same thing. I want to enjoy the game, but the complex jumping puzzles are killing it for me. I don't mind some jumping - but some of the puzzles seem overly complex or drawn out and then I have to restart half way through. Everyone has a play style they love, but for me about 50% less jumping puzzle length would be much more fun - or at least let me continue from the point that I failed.

Basically this, anytime I see those damn float grab platforms the pace of the mission just audibly grinds to a halt. It’s like they came up with the idea of the dash move for combat then tried to jam it into a bunch of other places so we really got to see how cool it is to be flying across their huge maps instead of shooting demons...

I hate it because it makes me hate myself. I'm too old for this shit, I was never a good FPS player in the first place, but most games on easy I can manage. Not Eternal. I can barely hit a target in normal games, so doing it under pressure, while having 5 different kind of demons attacking from every direction, while having to think about which key to push to get the effect I want ( E, C, MMB, R, F, etc. ), while thinking about which weapon I have to use on which enemy, all the while double jumping and double dashing around and avoiding lava pits and not getting stuck in every wall and pillar in the way...

Just... no. It's too much, and they keep adding more layers to this 100 layered cake with weapon mods, runes, preator points, skills, masteries, challenges, collectibles, and all that shit to unlock. I've played RPGs with systems less complex than that, it just feels like they threw every idea they had in a cauldron and poof, Eternal came out.

I understand why it's fun, I understand why people love it, and I understand the gameplay decisions behind it. I think it's a great game. It's just not for me, it would require way too much work and practice to git gud, and sucking at the game makes me not want to play it.

Exactly why I don't play Dark Souls either.

eh Dark Souls is nothing like that bro. Dark souls is about dealing with one tops 2 enemies at a time and learning their rhythm. Doom Eternal combat... just feels like a mess.

I was so excited for this game, and I completely lost interest because of the platforming bullshit. I told my wife I'm still playing so she doesn't think we wasted 60 bucks on this, but I'm over here going through Persona 5 Royal instead.

I totally agree. More does not equal better. I much prefered Doom 2016's straightforward approach. Within the first hour I had a headache and was sick of all the fucking menu tutorials and stuff thrown at me. Like jesus just give me a gun and let me shoot some demons. The old games were like that and they were wildly successful, why change it?

I googled the world to find someone saying it.

Bizarrely I have no big issue with the platforming thing (although I could do without it), but the deluge of controls and systems, I cannot deal with. In a slower paced game, yes, not with fast FPS.

Eventually gave up after confusing melee with chainsaw with flamethrower, or was it grenade with equipment, or was it switching equipment with switching mod, etc for the 100th time.

I wish they kept it simple.

yea the ammo system is just asinine. it's just ammo collector sim 2020. 2016 was about ripping and tearing. this is about picking up ammo and running out seconds later. it's just very intrusive and totally destroys any flow you get going. it's like getting on a train that stops every 2 minutes and you have to get off and buy new tickets constantly. it's that annoying - especially if you play it on harder difficulties.

Also the linearity of the upgrades is stupid too. they hide sentinel crystals and shower you in runes. makes no sense.

i agree totally with your assessment so disappointing when you just get fired up then a whole lot of meaningless platforms?? why its so frustrating possibly esier with a mouse for free looking but thats not even possible :-(

I could not agree more.

I was in love with Doom 2016 (and Doom, Doom II; Doom 3 ... not so much). But, in Id's desire to outdo themselves, they've forgotten what the game is about.

I was reading another forum where a poster complained about the game, but was being torn apart by every single reply. What's funny is that many of those commenting were comparing it to a game called Nioh, a Japanese RPG. So, I think there's a lot of love out there for this game, just not from the loyal Doomers -- the ones who cut their teeth killing Imps in their footy pajamas in the '90s. I think the anime, cartoon-loving, comic book-reading crowd loves the changes.

I believe someone said it best in here when they said the game penalizes you for going head-first in the heart of the battle, which had always been was Doom was about. Having to stop, swap to a chainsaw in the hopes of getting some ammo only to have the "insufficient fuel" warning pop up is frustrating. This is not Doom. This is an RPG with flashy neon graphics, level-ups, platforming, and (this makes me laugh every time) spinning fire wheels from Super Mario. Much of this game is spaghetti logic; throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. On some levels, I spend more time trying to figure out how to advance to the next area than actually firing my weapons.

And, Doom Guy, or the Slayer, is supposed to be the single most powerful human in the universe, yet he can't even hurt a Possessed with melee any more (without using the power-up)? What happened in the past four years? Did he stop eating his Wheaties?

And, don't get me wrong. I do like the game on a certain level, but it's not what I was expecting and it's not Doom. I'll play and I'll finish it, but I just wish Id wouldn't have tried to reinvent the wheel.

37
level 2

Idk man, I agree with mostly everything you said apart from getting penalized for jumping head first into battle (oh and the nioh thingy but I have no idea what the hell that even is) I play on nightmare and jump into battle head first doom style. Do I die? Yes, but I die just as much as I would in every other doom. The combat seems fine and close enough to doom to be enjoyable atleast for me, it’s the platforming and puzzles that loses me.

3
level 2

(I can't see the comparison to Nioh so idk what those guys were talking about lol) but with that being said I actually love the new combat, it's just a little different. And I'm not the 'new crowd' either, I've played through DOOM 1 and 2. I'm playing the game like it's Unreal Tournament 2004 and it's going great. As for jumping into the heart of the battle I personally am not having an issue with that as I seem to be doing that but that's not to diss you, our playstyles are probably just different.

I agree with you as well. I even squeezed out a few tears after only 20 minutes because of how bad I feel Bethesda ruined this game.

Not only is it the arcade game feel, the bright animations and the fucking jacked story but for anyone who actually played Doom 2016 and liked it, would be able to tell right away that Doom Eternal is not a continuation of the former title. Everything about Doom Eternal seems wrong when compared to Doom 2016. Instead of just fixing what didn't work with the previous Doom they decided to change everything. The hideous amounts of pointless platforming and the constant management of ammo ruined it for me, that and the plot. Although most Doom games have had weak storylines, I felt like Doom 2016 had just enough to make all the killing have meaning. There was no prescribed way to play the game. It was literally: Here's a bunch of guns, now kill me some demons. Doom Eternal forces you into repeating the same gameplay loops over and over. Instead of figuring attack patterns out, they actually tell you how to kill a boss or defeat certain enemies, totally ruining the immersion. Plus, I could never really figure out where the fuck I was as so little of the games settings looked like Hell on Earth, more like Hell on LSD.

There is no tie-in from Doom 2016's epilogue. You literally start the game in a spaceship orbiting earth with no introduction or explanation as to how you got there or that an armour clad Icon of Sin was resurrected by some twisted heavenly figure out of some convoluted ancient battle. It felt more like a grab bag where Id/Bethesda threw every single asset from previous Doom games and compiled all of them into one title.

I even felt like Doom Eternal lacked the red stuff. Glory kills are not nearly as satisfying as they were in Doom 2016 and the fact that you are forced to utilize them, along with the ridiculous flame belch and grenade launcher ( no explanation on these upgrades either) in order to keep supplied sucks. Doom Slayer gets some new duds, a new ship and some shoulder mounted gizmo's but most of his arsenal remains unchanged? Where's the fancy new guns to go with all the tech upgrades? The gauss rifle is not the Ballista who's alt fire is very similar to the combat shotgun. If people wanted the game to be harder, could they have not just tweaked the harder modes to make them less forgiving?

I think what's even more funny, is the dedicated Bethesda fanboys that slam anybody and everybody who writes a modicum of bad report. I think in an effort to make money and bank on a franchise that has become the epitome of FPS games, they have forgotten much about what makes the game series so good. To think that all these years later, the Doom franchise would end up as a cheesy arcade knock-off is really sad. I personally didn't get much enjoyment out of Doom Eternal and I played it for too long to qualify for a refund so I am stuck with it. Might as well been a $80 paperweight.

17
level 2

Like most others in this post I am thinking the same things after 3 hours in. Wish I was still under two hours so I could consider refund. This doesn't feel or play like a sequel to Doom 2016. It is a mess. The combat is rigid... You can trust be badass and do what you want. You have to do shit exactly as the devs want you to do it. The game looks cartoony compared to Doom 2016. The UI is all generic holographic look also. Doom2016 hellish menus rocked. The visual tone is mangled from the mix of Doom hellish demons and weird cartoon colors.

6
level 2

Well said. And like most of the people on this thread, I arrived here after my first few hours of playing this game, seeking solace from rooms full of other anonymous and disappointed gamers. It's such a bummer. I thought the fact that they delayed this game and were building off of such a great title in Doom 16 would mean that this was a surefire home run. But it's a dud. A full on dud. Here are my thoughts, which are not unique in any way:

  1. Colors: why is this game so bright and silly looking? Doom is supposed to be dark, evil, and foreboding. But this ultra-saturated crap looks like Doom meets dance dance revolution. There is not a single feeling of fear or...doom...while walking the neon hallways of this looking for cartoon monsters to turn into a glowsticks explosion. I mean seriously...I just cut something in half with a chainsaw and the dominant visual is glowstick ammo??

  2. Platforming: the platforming here is terrible. The double jump and dash controls feel unpredictable and scripted, the wall grab is just cheesy and sometimes you just punch the wall and fall to your death.

  3. Lives: who cares? Please just go back to restarting and checkpoints, thanks.

  4. Ammo: I am constantly running out of ammo, then looking for smaller demons to use my chainsaw on so that I can glowstick my way back into the fight. At no point have I felt like a badass.

  5. Collisions: I've gotten stuck on some pretty dumb door frames, or between monsters, etc. Often resulting in a frantic flailing of controls until I'm free. Or I'll jump to a platform, catch the edge of it in the shin and fall to my death.

  6. Levels: I have yet to enter a single arena that offers an interesting combat experience. I mean...these are some of the most unimaginative layouts ever, with most battles just consisting of running in circles and frantically killing things with no strategy whatsoever. Even when I try to come up with a strategy, it doesn't have much to do with creative use of the layout. I mean...those purple muck areas where you cant jump at all and tentacles just come up from random spots and hit you? Pathetic.

  7. Rpg elements: I really just dont care about upgrading my doom guy. They have gone overboard with this whole "slayer" thing, turning him into this cocky superhero spaceman God, when the thing that made the doom guy feel so badass was that he was just a human with tons if badass gear and motivation. The worst part is, they are trying to make this slayer thing into such an important part of the story, but the story is....

  8. Garbage story. I have no idea what is going on, why my slayer is where he is or what he is doing. That used to be fine in doom games, because they hinted at storylines just enough to let you imagine this larger universe, yet stay focused on the action at hand. Now with the story being more of a focal point, I find myself wondering why I have a spaceship. Where did I get that? What is the plan for rescuing earth? Wait, why am I at some medieval slayer castle now, and why is it infested? I mean there is just so much half assed story telling going on, that you cant help but want it to make sense in some way. Here is the thing: if you're going to try to tell a big story, tell a big story. If you dont have the focus or resources to make that happen, then just let the illusion of a bigger universe exist it a subtle way, letting gamers use their imaginations to fill in the gaps. You cant do a bad job of telling a story and just say "oh but its doom and that's ok here's a demon have fun dont ask questions."

I could rant on and on about this. But I should stop. As a longtime fan of the franchise, I feel like this was an easy opportunity to build off of the near-perfect doom16, and instead we got Doom JR: Glowstick Platform Adventure. Nice job Bethesda. Oh and one last thing: way to interrupt the first load of the game with a forced email list signup. That was so clever and well executed 😤

still reading your comment but that was the very first thing that came to mind when I started..."this is nothing like doom 2016..wtf"

First of all...I wanted to know what happened after the end of doom 2016. Everything about that game was BOLD and hardcore, not this cartoony bullshit. The very first arachnodemon I encountered I must have died like 5 times because I kept running out of freaking ammo!! Having to hide from spider brain is fine...i did that in the older games, but constantly running out of ammo is unacceptable.

Just wanted to concur with your first few sentences. I played doom2016 to prep for eternal and then it was like running face first into a brick wall.

There's also the distinct lack of badass music to rip and tear too. It just doesn't feel the same at all.

2
level 1

I jumped into Doom Eternal straight out of finishing Doom 2016, and I quit playing it. I started on Ultra Violence - I love the speed and the feel of the game, mechanics wise....but the level design ruined it for me. I've never seen such a terrible shift in design in any game. There was platforming in Doom '16, but it worked with the levels and made sense. Doom Eternal's level design went straight up Mario with their platforming and ridiculous puzzles. When I get into combat, it's awesome. I love hunting for all the side objectives like the more difficult encounters, but as I'm pumped up and 'ripping and tearing', I'm suddenly walled by some stupid jump puzzle.

There are times where I've had no idea where to go and I just have to fall to my death. At one point trying to get into the Cultist's Base (I think that's the name)... there are two moving pillars flanking a small opening. Each one has a space for the player to stand and move up and down with them. You're supposed to get into the left pillar and ride it down to an opening. But when I went down... it killed me. So my progress was completely blocked. I had to reload the game twice for it to work. But the frustrating part was that I thought I had to just figure this shit out and I was stuck in that room for 30+ minutes before turning the game off and researching how tf people got by it.

Another complaint is that I feel completely different than I do when I played Doom '16.. I just feel squishy; nothing like the bamf from '16.

And lastly...they give everything away. They literally tell you how to take advantage of weak spots on every enemy. When you push a button, you're interrupted with a cut scene of where a door is opened up... that's very odd for ID to do that imo.

Besides those points, the game plays flawlessly. The combat is buttery smooth, I love the weapon mods and just how quickly you can dispatch enemies in multiple ways.

Pretty sad :(

I feel like I will just end up uninstalling this game to free up the space... Damn!?

Literally found this post after searching "doom eternal stupid jumping puzzles wtf". You're right about the idiot grenade/flamethrower and the low ammo count. It's like they want the player to repeat each level multiple times until they hate it.

And the jumping puzzles. Holy shit. Wondering of the developers played "Journey to the Savage Planet" and decided to copy the game design.

I honestly don't feel like I'm playing a Doom game, and after Doom 2016 I am very disappointed.

Been playing DOOM since the 90s. Still now being older, dont game much, and it is one of the very very few game franshieses i play when a new game comes out.

I thought DOOM 2016 was next to perfecting the DOOM essence.

Now THIS?

DOOM was always the ONE game where one could enjoy mindless mad shooting. Just brains out, guns out. Move and Aim and Shoot, and MOOVE and AIM and SHOOT. And rip and tear ofc.. ;)

Now i am Super fucking Mario? And i have to think about ammo? FUCK.

You stole the one game series from me that always brought me to care about gaming, in this age of Fortnite, CoD and et cetera.

Now i will try if a trainer can get me back at least partially that feeling of what DOOM once was. Though i dont have no hopes in that, when i see that platforming BS (now i am level 3).

Without that silly Super Mario BS and the ammo mechanics, the game could have perfected the essence what DOOM represented. That is what really angers me.

Everything Bethesta now touches is DOOMed. Pun fucking intended.

Goodbye.

My only complaint is that there are too many collectibles. Every time I finish an encounter I'm popping open the map to check for secrets. It takes me out of the immersion. They are also stupid easy to find... I've only missed line two so far.

I agree with you dude. Enemies are goddamn bullet sponges in this game and ammo is so freakin scarce. The chainsaw should in theory make up for this but since chainsaw refills are so rare I never have enough to kill the larger enemies I would need the extra ammo for and I don't wanna waste it on fodder in case I need it later.

I also hate the extra lives, it seems to me like the devs designed the game around them and assumes you have at least one for every major encounter, at the very least they should respawn when you die otherwise what's the point? If I run out of them early are the devs assuming I'm gonna quit and restart the level? Who has that kind of time these days? It would be nice if instead of using the life automatically it asked if I'd like to use it so I can decide if I want to save it for later.

This game feels really padded to me, like the fights go on and on and on, in 2016 the fights were waaayyy shorter so that way the game maintained a good pace and fighting didn't feel like a chore every time it happened. Levels were also divided into more digestible chunks so it felt easier to stop and take a break not just personally but also story wise.

I also think the fights in this game are kinda unfocused, like they game says to move often to avoid damage but so often you're stuck in cramped arenas or tight corridors. The game also wants you to focus specific body parts on enemies to deal high damage but that's not easy to do when you're running around to avoid getting shot and stabbed from every direction. Especially on a PS4 controller. This game could've really benefitted from having some kind of bullet time mechanic.

I don't think this game is Wolfenstein: Youngblood levels of bad but it's definitely New Colossus bad. Guess it's partly my fault though, after getting burned by Wolfenstein maybe I should've learnt not buy Bethesda sequels.

6
level 2

Oh man I stopped playing New Colossus halfway through as soon as they did the ridiculous switch heads stunt. New Order was so good in it’s grounded take on an alternate reality. New Colossus was such a disappointment.

6

Dude the chainsaw recharges one fuel pip every 10 seconds. It doesn’t work like 2016, you can’t just save up fuel for a big guy, fodder is what the chainsaw is meant for.

I am 7-10 into the game, I found Eternal to be much faster than Doom 2016 which i hate, the pace in 2016 was perfect. Also, i easily run out of ammo which i despise too, 2016 was so generous in this aspect. Besides, i felt like the game is much harder, too many shits is happening in the screen, too many mechanics, too many buttons you have to click in the battle, it's negatively overwhelming.

I just finished this game, and yes, I gotta agree, it's a solid "C" in my book. The credits couldn't roll fast enough for me to exit to desktop and get it off my hard drive. They simply took Doom 2016, added unnecessary and clumsy platforming, and then spiked it with more waves of enemies in a level design that completely falls a part by the end.

The only redeeming quality (for me) were the graphics, music, and stable FPS (on PC). Hell, even the sound effects were better in 2016. I, like many others, were seriously ready for another Doom title, but man, this just missed the mark for me big time.

Take My Energy

I've been looking forward to Doom Eternal for a while and finally got to play it last night.... What a complete and total disappointment. Overall, I'll still probably play through it as its still kind of enjoyable BUT I do have some serious gripes with the game:

  1. Ammo scarcity: WTF is this shit? can't kill more than 3 or 4 basic mobs without needing to whip out the chainsaw and watch the same damn animation for enough ammo to kill another 3-4 mobs before having to repeat it

2) FUCK weak points!!!! Cacodemons are utterly trivial. It takes more effort, ammo and skill to kill a basic zombie than it does to nade one of these slow moving gargantuan balloons. And the Arachnids and Revenants turrets are too OP so you HAVE to take them out or get fucked up. That's not Doom! This is paint by numbers! I'm just delighted they didn't fuck up the Hell Knight

3) Wall climbing/Platforming: What kind of pants-on-head, inbred fucktard decided a "fast paced shooter" would benefit from GRINDING EVERYTHING TO A HALT TO HUMP A SERIES OF FUCKING WALLS?! Its not fun, its not enjoyable, its not thrilling, its not engaging and it utterly destroys the games momentum

4) Central Hub/ship thing: Why the fuck does the doomguy have this? Why is this remotely necessary? Where did it come from? Who thought it was a good idea. DOOMGUY DOES NOT NEED A GOD DAMN BATCAVE! I DON'T NEED TO WANDER AROUND A GOD DAMNED HUB AREA FOR NO REASON BETWEEN LEVELS

5) "Story": Now, I'm only an hour or two into the game so far so maybe it will make sense later, but WTF is even happening in the game? As far as I understood, this was supposed to be a continuation of Doom 2016. I had assumed we would be hunting down Samuel Hayden. Then suddenly I'm hunting hell priests and looking for "the betrayer" for fuck knows what reason and theres absolutely zero mention of Hayden. It genuinely feels like I've missed a game in between 2016 ad Eternal.

6) Cut-scenes: Doomguy 2016 was a borderline sociopath who gave zero fucks about anyone or anything. He didn't care about preserving the ardent reactor, he destroyed the vid from Samuel Hayden at the start in order to start mashin dem demons. And, most importantly, you were never pulled out of first person to watch some cinematic about barely understandable gibberish. It feels like on one hand the devs are saying "lol this is doom! You don't need a story! Go smash demons!" and on the other hand they're saying "Sit down, shut up and listen to our epic tale". At least in 2016, all the exposition happened in-game, in first person mode and you were free to either pay attention to the exposition, or run around the area, jumping on tables and generally faffing about until you could proceed. Its a small matter, admittedly, but I prefer the immersion of a consistent first person POV in a first person game

7) Game speed: Now, this one might just be me, but I honestly feel like Doomguy moves slower in this than in 2016. This doesn't have the same, desperate open arena fast paced shooter feel to it, to me. I feel if Doomguys default move speed was just a fraction higher, the game would flow a lot more smoothly. Also, on the same lines as the wall climbing, WHO THE FUCK DECIDED THIS PURPLE SHIT YOU CANT RUN OR JUMP IN WAS A GOOD IDEA?! Probably the same fuckwit who thought we needed/wanted jumping puzzles in a supposedly fast paced shooter. I genuinely hope people lost their jobs for that decision.

Anyway, I realize a few of my points may be construed as being overly picky, but these were my take-aways from my first hour or 2 of DE. Gotta say, I'm really disappointed. I will continue to play it, may even complete it, but it'll definitely be a one n done game for me. Fuck the collectibles. I'm not even bothering to open my map to look for them. Not worth the effort for such a sub par Doom experience. I think the game would have been far better if they just took the exact same system as 2016, shove in the classic enemies that were missing from it, and stick it on a ruined earth

*the UI was designed by a 12 year old ADHD with perfect eyesight

i get they were trying to modernise it, and 2016 was let down because it was basically get to a locked out room/area, kill all demons, exit said room/area... repeat until bored.

I think it sucks that you are so disappointed and I totally understand. The game is drastically different. It’s not quite as bad as Shadow Warrior 2013 to Shadow Warrior 2 but it’s compatible. I was super disappointed in that sequel. However I’m really enjoying Doom Eternal. It’s not what I expected or necessarily wanted but it is a lot of fun. The combat is great. The presentation is not great though. The story is a mess and not as good as Doom 2016 not as well presented. Doom 2016 had a better tone too. Overall I like both games but I’m left wanting for more Doom 2016.

I'm so frustrated, because I can see what they are trying to do, but they just stuck in so much bullshit that saps away from the game's strengths. The combat system is restraining, but okay, I can get used to it, but everything around it just completely sucks the energy out of it. The constant cutscenes, the collectibles, the challenges.

The challenges have to be the worst thing in the game for me. It's tied to progression, and I can't tell you how frustrating it is to get into the groove that the combat system is forcing you into: Constantly switching weapons in order to get health (because you can't glory kill with your favorite high powered weapons, great idea to force me away from my favorite weapons) or switching due to enemy type or ammo concerns, looking for chainsaw targets. And then I must also squeeze into this a forced fighting style revolving around trying to kill enemies a certain way so I can get the full benefits out of a weapon or my progression. I have tried to kill this stupid archville three times with a "left side" glory kill and I'm about to lose my mind. The challenge I want out of this game is not trying to kill 5 demons with one super punch or to kill a cyberdemon with a shotgun. The challenge I want is to face a barrage of enemies that keep me on my toes and moving, and instead the game seems to want to challenge me by creating a system that punishes me for using my favorite guns and play style.

Also, the marauder is not fun to fight. He is boring, I do not want to play Mike Tyson's Super Punch Out with an annoying dog thrown in. Most weapons don't feel fun to use on him. He's not difficult, he's just built completely different from every other enemy in the game, so while you spend the whole game learning how to cope with the weapon/ammo/health economy, he comes in with this whackamole bullshit.

yep. not to mention the hud system feels like fucking cod. get to 40/100 health? a little less than half? your screen gets read and bloody and hard to see through making it annoying to see what your doing. and just the constant" low health, low ammo, go find more" in the middle of the fight is just so damn annoying. it feels like i have to drop whatever im doing to go find some imp to chain saw or glory kill. not to mention it just feels like its overly complicated with a bunch of new features, and so much shit on screen, no pistol, and not even a gun that has infinite ammo (which i know is a newer thing, but i really like how balanced it was) the whole game just feels like a mess. the combat is awkward, the hud is overcrowded and hard to use, the mechanics are annoyingly overcomplicated, the story aspect is complete and utter shit. i wanted to love this game so bad but fuck me is it just a shitshow

EDIT: also. another thing. something i dont know why i didnt mention cause it pissed me off the most...WHY THE FUCK DO DOOM GUYS PUNCHES NOT DO JACK SHIT ANYMORE, YOU USED TO BE ABLE TO KILL JUST ABOUT ANYTHING BY PUNCHING IT TO DEATH IF YOU NEEDED TO. BUT NOW NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU PUNCH THEY DONT DIE, FORCING YOU TO USE AMMO, WHICH IS CONSTANTLY RUNNING OUT.

Many people have pointed out all the problems I have with Eternal. So I'm just going to add my story because it will feel good to vent.

I was in high school when the original Doom released. Doom 2 soon followed. I played them all through high school and college. Played countless custom maps and wads. Played the console ports. Doom 64. I even had it running on a graphing calculator. In my lifetime I've probably played Doom more than any other game.

So I'm old now. I work. I have a family. I don't have the same passion for gaming I once did. I don't stay on top of new releases. Don't preorder games or buy them at full price. I get my games on sale and rarely even finish them.

I bought Doom 2016 on sale months after it released. I had low expectations but holy shit what an amazing game. I played through the campaign, got 100% of the achievements and then I did something I hadn't done in years... I started over on the highest difficulty and did it all again. Doom 2016 brought the passion back. I felt like a kid again.

The sequel was announced and there was no way I was going to wait for this one. Doom Eternal is the first game in 10 years that I pre-ordered. Not only did I pay full price, but I paid extra for the deluxe edition.

I won't make that mistake ever again.

Doom Eternal has been such a massive disappointment. I played it the first weekend, trying to force myself to like it. I've gone back to it at least once a week since then, giving it chance after chance. I never play for more than 30 mins before I lose interest. I still haven't beaten it and at this point I don't know if I ever will.

I'm sure there will be another Doom in a few years. Maybe I'll check it out... when it's deeply discounted. Maybe I won't. Point is, it isn't a slam dunk anymore.

I'm glad there's another old timer up on here that feels the same way about gaming that I do.

I don't consider completing difficult games an accomplishment of any note, especially when juxtaposed next to the difficulty of being a good husband and father.

I think the sales figures, long term will not match Doom 2016.

I also think that a lot of people who pre ordered the DLC will be both disappointed and disgusted with what they get.

I bought the game today and started playing it, just after finishing Doom 2016, which was the best game I've played in years. At first when I started playing Eternal, I was like "Awesome! Load times are reduced! Slightly more advanced tactics during the shootouts! More detail! This is great!" I even thought the ability to climb walls was cool at first.

But then I started having to deal with these *ABSOLUTELY STUPID* jumping puzzles. I know the physics aren't very logical in Doom 2016, and you could climb ledges and do the double jump thing - but the game didn't make the jumping tricky at all and it was kind of fun using it to explore as well as discover secrets.

Doom Eternal throws any logic out the window - your guy has the ability to "dash" in midair (why not just use a jet pack?) We get flag poles coming out of walls to swing off Donkey Kong style, cannons shooting out of walls at regular intervals for absolutely no reason at all, rotating flame things out of Mario, etc. And the game makes doing all this nonsense just as difficult as the combat.

There were a couple occasions where I almost got violent with my computer. I don't know if I'm going to continue. So far, if Doom 2016 is like watching "Batman Returns", Doom Eternal is like "Batman and Robin".

Agree. I fucking hate this game. I'm doing mission Arc Complex and for the first time I finally started to like it and enjoying myself, have quite a few good upgrades and it doesn't FINALLY feel like chore.

...

So let's throw the shittiest most annoying boss fight right at the end. I feel like I'm done with this shit.

DOOM 2016: You're the greatest most powerful hero.
DOOM Eternal: You're a hobo practically begging every other demon for couple of bullets and tiny bit of health.

Yeah, great idea to take literally the best part of the game and make you feel like shit. The controls are SO complicated too. For the first half of the game I genuinely had to think for like 20 seconds what I'm going to do. You have torch you have to think about, mods on weapons (completely ignore switching them and stick with just one), you have special areas on enemies that can be destroyed only with certain gun, you constantly have to keep track of ammo, which is collected by chainsaw, which you need fuel for (a.k.a. fuel = ammo with extra steps), but wait! - not every enemy can be chansawed so good luck with getting yourself killed because you're trying to get ammo from "wrong" demon, you have to constatnly gain health from glory kills, you have to switch with separate button between grenade and ice grenade, then you have dashing... you have like trillion separate buttons for every single thing.

It's just so bad. It's too much. I want to skip the fucking boss and continue the normal levels because at least they started to be actual fun.

just finished it, sure only on hurt me plenty.

i agree with ot loved doom 2016.
the safest place to be in battle was in the center of it, run or stay at distance and you run out of ammo and die. be in the middle and you can keep grinding gorykills and keep the slaughter rolling.

Now you run of to chainsaw zombies.....

which becomes even more of a chore when facing of the 120th billion fucking maruder while dogding other assholes trying to get more ammo for the shotty so you can wait out his shield and wear him down until he dies, he is not hard. its not difficult. it does not require any what so talent ( circle strafe and shoot when he goes green, wow!) or ( just fucking stand next to him and do the same) just that i need enough fucking bullets and in my case i dont see any other point then using a supershotgun to kill him.

i did not like where doom eternal took it - im hoping that someone will release a patch that makes gloory kills do give the same items as 2016, then i would probably replay it for slaugthering shit,. this was not as fun as i hoped and in many accounts really bad and booring. as written before... the supermario bs

Honestly I think you are kinda spot on. Doom eternal is not a bad game in any stretch of the imagination. But... the combat has too much going on... I just dont even use the flame thing for armour... Whenever I have used it get a pitiful amount of armour that disappears almost instantly to 1 demon attack or I only use it between fights against a huge crowd of zombies. There are just too many buttons to press and it does hurt the game overall.

I regret every Ukrainian Hryvnia I spent on this game and everyone seems to hate it for absolutely different reason to mine. I love the gameplay loop, but the campaign made me want to kill myself. Mostly because of the bosses, which, don't get me wrong, weren't the highlight of 2016 either, but here they seem to have just decided to make it even worse. The last boss was a massive pissing joke, I have no idea why people say they liked it.
I know I'm a dumb cunt for picking on the story, but it was genuinely interesting for me in 2016. I didn't read the codex, but what was relayed by the dialog and environment was enough. My favorite part is definitely stealing of BFG, meanwhile in Eternal the moment when you get it makes no fucking sense. Like why is it there? Why would it work this way? And the damn slayer tower or whatever this 3D unlockable menu was called. The narrative and lore just doesn't make sense in so many places, and when it contradicts what was told in 2016, it gives an even worse explanation.
Lastly it kept crashing on my PC constantly. Like it run just fine at high settings, but would crash in the middle of a boss fight or while loading the level.

Totally agree, tried so hard just couldn't get into it. Doom 2016 was one of the best games I've ever played, this is so far removed from that it's a massive disappointment, fuck me that platforming Jesus, also they have a big build up for a boss and once you kill him it's waves of the same enemy, felt really cheap

4

Yes, I really can't put into words how much this disappointed me.

4
level 1

So glad I found this thread. I was beginning to think I was the only one who felt this way. The reviews make it out to be the second coming.

It's not a bad game but the platforming is completely out of place. Who buys a FPS so they can spend time trying to jump on platforms? I actually love platformers but it's not why I bought Doom.

Also the approach to ammo refills is ridiculous. Yes, it's easy to farm to zombies but it feels so pointless. How does that add to the challenge or enjoyment of the game?

Lastly, the colors make me feel like I'm playing some kid's game. It's Doom! Do we really need the rainbow colors in the menus and throughout every level? It feels completely out of place in a game that supposed to be about hell taking over Earth.

There. I feel better now.

4
level 1

I thoroughly agree. My problems with it were mainly two things. The bullshit platforming, and the difficulty.(stay with me here) the platforming is just like you said, finicky, broken, garbage. As for the difficulty, I was able to get through the 2016 doom at a respectable difficulty. Wasn't easy, but was still really fun. I have doom eternal on the lowest difficulty, and I can't get past the section when you get the sword. They throw a cyber mancubus, a cacodemon, a prowler, and lots of other suit at you in a single encounter. Not mentioning the Lord of bullshit himself, the marauder. I just said fuck it at this point. Why play a game that's not fun?

4
level 2

That’s the entire point people are missing. Eternal obviously isn’t a bad game. But it’s not fun. It’s stressful and so over the top it’s mind boggling some of the decisions they came to. Despise it. Doom 2016 was a revelation, Eternal is a huge step back.

4
level 1

This game is a huge disappointment for me after playing 2016. The graphics and artwork are somehow worse. It's too arcade-like now. I hate how everything you pick up is a hologram. I liked 2016 where you actually picked things up. The ridiculous yells when you get shot. I get they went with the classic look but I preferred the more serious and more realistic feel of the 2016 version. It pisses me off Doomslayer is strong as fuck but you hardly hurt possessed when you melee them. They did way too much with this game. Hope I change my mind the more I play.

4
level 1

What I dislike about Doom Eternal is the platforming. It distracted the pace of the game. 2016 Doom had such a perfect flow to it. They had ammo crates located perfectly, and god do I miss the gore nests with the mixture of Mick's music.

I also disliked the aesthetic changes they made to Doom Eternal. It felt too... cartoonish (for lack of a better term.) They changed the looks to the demons, even added that fucking spider demon (which is the bane of my existence) and they even changed the looks to the guns.

Thirdly, the campaign. I never played past the 3rd mission, but like I don't need a main hub for upgrades and shit. I just wanna shoot demons. I wanted a linear path that I didn't have to jump around locations and keep returning to the Doom Slayer's ship. I also hate the cutscenes, how it switched to third person on occasion. The Doom Slayer was locked in Hell. You can't just start another campaign and have him be on earth and he's got himself a ship. And his armor... I hate the new look. His 2016 counterpart was so menacing because they never revealed what he looked like or anything like that. Why show his biceps?

I felt like they were trying to go for nostalgia factor and they reworked and redesigned Doom for that nostalgia. They should've kept what they had and built off from that.

Also their multiplayer sucks. I want team deathmatch, king of the hill, capture the flag. Hell even a pve mode where you try to survive the most rounds.

I've never been more disappointed of a game than I have since Mass Effect Andromeda. (Which I preordered the Collectors Edition for Andromeda....)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels the same way about Doom Eternal. This game sucks.

5
level 1

YES!!!! Holy fuck finally someone who agrees!! I mean don't get me wrong, I did have SOME fun in Eternal but it's just such a disappointing mess in comparison to 2016!!

4
level 1

Doom 2016 was a drug-like death metal trance of mayhem and strafing demon murder. This aint it. Not for me.

4
level 1

The limited ammo count that breaks the flow of battle and sometimes just ends it is my number #1 problem.

You're supposed to be able to _shoot_ in a Doom game, not frantically jumping from demon to demon and pushing C trying to find out if you have "enough" fuel -- of course you have enough, you're the Doomguy!

3
level 1

Hopefully someone can mod it to make it less shit.

5
level 1

The platforming is terrible I hate it so much

4
level 1

This thread has been therapeutic, because I really thought it was just me. I thought I was getting too old, too cranky, eyes and reflexes not as good as they used to be, and I thought I was Just No Fun Anymore.

But no. Fuck man. I adored the 2016 game like almost everyone else, Doom and Doom II in the 90s were my favorite games (including the in-house knockoffs! Remember Heretic?)... I pre-ordered this game last summer I was so excited, didn't end up actually starting the game til this past week (life shit happened)... and it's making me want to cry. This game literally makes me want to cry, it's that disappointing.

When I saw the promotional clips and screenshots last year, saw how cartoonish everything looked, I got a little nervous. Doom is supposed to be silly, but the originals and the 2016 game struck a perfect balance that took itself almost seriously... but not completely. Atmosphere out the ass. (I mean, anyone my age that played the games back in the 90s - played in a quiet house late at night, that game could scare the shit out of you!) Eternal literally looks like a fucking cartoon. I reassured myself that the gameplay would be worth looking forward to.

And much of it is, but... the platforming. The stupid fucking immersion-breaking frustrating for literally NO reason fucking platforming. The combat, which fixed what was absolutely not broken in the 2016 game.

Y'all have described this game's issues better than I could. I'm feeling too apathetic to find the words anyway. I'm just glad it's not just me. Doom Eternal isn't a BAD game; it would be better if it was, so I could gleefully hate it. It's just disappointing.

Just finished Doom on Nightmare. Even though in the end you do master the zillion buttons and functions and weapon switching, it's still stressing, not engrossing, makes you hate yourself when you fail. It's like a 100 piece drum kit must feel to a jazz drummer who just wants to play bebop. Doom I and Doom II are jazz classics, Doom Eternal is a progressive-fusion-symphonic-rock virtuoso horror show. Some of those words apply to Doom, of course, but to its theme, its subject matter. This is the mistake, in my opinion: they mixed up theme and vibe. Classic Doom had Keen's vibe. It is gone. I wish they'd bring it back.

But I'm just a dirty casual old gamer dude.

I personally find Doom Eternal a much more fast paced and flaweless game. After finishing Eternal, Doom 2016 just feels slower and more sluggish in comparison. IDK, the new mobilities made me feel home as a genji main in ow lol.

2
level 1

Yes I agree. Good and bad below Bad———- Also the bosses are tedious and boring. Doom 2016 had much better boss encounters and just overall enemy introductions. The dread knights, hell knights, and barons of hell just kind of unceremoniously show up.

The mecha zombie, carcass and dread knights make the game more annoying than anything. Also I hate the enemy movement vs Doom 2016. When it comes to the bigger enemy’s melee attacks you are a fucking magnet, and they can lunge to you from like a quarter of a mile away.

God don’t get me started with the marauder, I fucking roll my eyes every time I have to deal with that bullet sponge, mechanically inept jackass. What is with all the fucking spirit wolves anyway? Is the doom guy and the marauder some sort of shamen?

God damn the buff totems, now I have to go play fucking hide and seek??? I just want to kill demons not do all of this tedious bull crap, how about they just get two health bars or something.

Give me a bigger ammo capacity! I know, chainsaw, but I have to saw someone every minute or so to keep it up.

Good——— I actually think most of the platforming is a refreshing break from combat. Falling and not instantly dying is a fantastic change. The collectible toys are kind of cool... There are no micro transactions!

The new chainsaw is pretty cool.

3
level 2

I could not agree more with you. After the first encounter with a Marauder, I dumb'd it down to “I'm Too Young to Die” for that (and every other) Marauder encounter in the game.

The pacing of the game is also all over the place. The rhythm of 2016 is gone completely.

2
level 1

I agree. I grew up playing Doom games. I've been a Doom fanatic since 1993. I also loved Doom 2016. Eternal is a massive disappointment for me, when it comes to the gameplay and 'combat loop'. This game is far more annoying to me than fun. I actually just quit out of the game a few minutes ago, playing the Taras Nabad level. I had to admit to myself, "I'm not having fun at all. This is just annoying."

3
level 2

I finally just turned the difficulty down to the lowest level and that made it tolerable enough to play through.

I cringe at every door with a big neon sign that says “Red Key”. I cringe every time I pluck the eyeball out of a Cacodemon and it makes some Loony Tunes slurpy-popping sound. I cringe every time I swing from a monkey bar like I’m Olympic Gold Medalist Simone Biles. I cringe when I collect 1-ups. I cringe when I collect in-game plush toys. I cringe when I get to the end of the level and it shows me how many orchestrated set piece battles I participated in.

4
level 1

Three things I hate about it.

  1. Always out of ammo, really you can use all the ammo from two guns on one big beastie, its annoying to have to put so much thought into ammo in a game otherwise about frenetic movement and killing.

  2. The flame cannon is to much, the blood punch is to much, the grenades is pushing it. To many timers to be aware of to many bars to watch. All of these abilities are quite strong which once again forces you out of the killing zone which is so great in this game.

  3. That stupid defensive knight. Invincible until his eyes go green, such a bad idea. I kill everything around him then just dance with him for a minute waiting to shoot him. Such a buzz kill.

Overall good game, just some very odd design choices. Like they wanted to evolve parts of the previous game that didn't need it.

3
level 1

I purchased Doom Eternal on Steam last night (was waiting for new GPU to arrive).

I played through the first mission and there was over a dozen times i audibly said "when does this become fun?"

Ammunition is too low and the weapons are noticeably ineffective over distances. The chainsaw is automatically brought out if you exhaust your ammunition however it will give a "no gas" warning and never work. This caused a scenario several times where there were no imps or weak enemies around to exploit and death resulted. It breaks immersion from the game's own logic of the Slayer being a badass.

Arenas are exercises in frustration as their design allows demons to come from many angles which defeats your natural instincts to "sweep & clear." This forces you into the "melee the weakest imp for ammo/health" paradigm over and over. It's boring.

Platforming is immersion-breaking in its implementation. Crossing gaps is understandable until it reaches a point where you aren't sure where to jump to next. I spent several retries trying to figure out where to jump next and that was inside only the first mission.

Level design is done well I think however the platform elements are again breaking the immersion. I appreciate the level of detail to the background elements like the giant walking demon guys with citadels/churches on their backs. They're walking through freaking lava man!

Overall I would have to say that this doesn't feel as much like Doom when compared to 2016 and the platforming element doesn't have a positive value in its implementation. The guns feel noticeably scaled down in an effort to force the ammo/health farming game play onto us more.

I want my Doom back!

3
level 1

Being locked in a room to clear hordes room after room gets really repetitive. Do enemies really need to flash to know they are incapacitated? Hes having a seizure standing up finish him!! Did they really have to make the game so that you have to clear giant pits using climbing walls and dying alot? I felt it was unnecessary, but as pointed out I dont like the game. I'm glad I borrowed it. I forgot how long it's been since I played a doom game. I really didnt need a reminder. The soundtrack did make me feel like a badass, and reminiscent of the original games. Only thing I liked.

3
level 2

The rooms were locked and enemies were flashing in 2016 too. You can turn the flashing off. I tried turning it off, but since this is vital to survival because of the new combat system, it has to be on!

its a goddam monkey-bars/trapeze simulator man. with puzzles added for your annoyance pleasures. they should give doom guy a leotard or a clown suit. im sure irl he would be very embarrassed to have to literally jump through hoops like this. sad cuz this game could have been great without all that parkour bull shony. or at least much less of it. many points in the game i was wondering if it was even a shooter. devs need to realize parkour does NOT need to be in every game to be good. so many trends they try to fill all of them in. fishing is another they try to pack in every game now. im surprised there is no fishing in DOOM eternal.... and damn.... break dancing emotes.. what has happened...

btw, im gonna try a trainer cheat that gives unlimited ammo.

Just came to +1. Googled "doom eternal sucks wtf". I was 2/3rds through the game a month ago, thought id give it a chance more today, an hour later, nope, I am not gonna finish this game. Uninstall.

I have 20 guns with ONE bullet for each of them ... the constant ammo + health farming, stochastic gameplay (find a statistical mechanic that evens out and just implement until area is cleared). Love the Doom series, LOVED 2016. This is garbage.

Still a top result when searching for hating the game.

If it was just the unreasonably small fonts of the UI

if it was just some platforming

if it was just a few tweaks to the game play mechanics

I could forgive one of those.

It took me probably 2 hours to tweak the FOV/sensitivity/smoothing to get just the aiming to feel right.

Couldn't agree more. I went straight from Doom 2016 to Doom Eternal this week and refunded it after an hour of play. I loved Doom 2016, it was a self-aware power fantasy ground in an immersive and dark world. Doom Eternal is so cartoony with so many gameplay gimmicks I am constantly reminded I'm playing a video game and lose all sense of immersion. It's has zero subtlety and is so in your face it feels like a comic book written by a goth teenager. It feels like what John Wick 3 is to John Wick, no subtlety, just producers shouting "MOAR" at the developers without realizing what made the original great.

3
level 1

I purchased this game through Steam the day after release, because of all the excellent reviews it had recieved from gaming 'sites'. Yet within 1 hour, I had asked for (and recieved) a refund.

Unfortunately due to lockdown, i was so bored, i purchased it again.

As other have said, this game is nothing like Doom 2016. And i would agree that it is nowhere near as good as Doom 2016. Imo, it quite simply has way too many annoying 'features'. The platforming being the single most annoying thing by far.

I don't like the colour schemes either. The ammo is an awful neon-bright, and most of the environments just don't quite 'look right'. The menu, and general interfaces are cluttered, and poorly laid out. In part i imagine because they have to accomodate so many new 'features'. Another main annoyance, very little is actually explained or documented, requiring as a previous poster mentioned, continuing referral to various 3rd-party websites, just to try to find out what xyz does.

I couldn't see any link between this doomguy, and the one from 2016. Perhaps it was explained in the 'codex' files? I of course never read them, the game wasn't worthy.

I also can't quite understand how even the lowly human 'posessed' soldiers have jetpacks, which alow them to get from the foot of a skyscraper, to the top. Yet alas, poor old Doomguy, who, reading between the lines, seems to be some highly advanced ancient alien super-soldier, gets the equivalent of a space-hopper. Allowing him to jump what apears to be all of 3 ft higher than a gerbil.

I am old now, been playing computer games since Commodore 64 (Beamrider etc), my brain isn't fast enough, my fingers certaintly aren't fast enough, and this game is hard.

Having said all that, i've completed it 3 times on Nightmare, and once on each other difficulty level. BUT, only because i wrote a script in AHK to take some of the pain away.

I recomend Auto flame-belch before blood-punch and chainsaw, cos i could never rememeber to do it myself. And Fast weapon switch between Super-shotgun and Arbalest. (Essential!)

This makes combat so much easier, but it doesn't take away the pain of pointless tedious platforming, or terrible design choices!

And what happened to the grapple-hook? I don't think i will be purchasing the 'Add-On's'.

The only thing I didn't like about Doom Eternal because they turned it into a puzzle platformer, I wanted a shooter like Doom 2016.

Man I am glad I am not the only one.

I played it for about 3 hours and then just uninstalled it from my hard drive and will never go back to it. I am so disappointed. I really don't like the direction they took this series.

I bought it on sale and I still regret it. I can't even return it because It is past the 14 days and I can't even trade it in either because it is a digital copy. Pretty much everything you said is true. The ammo farming is bullshit, the platforming is a joke, and the game overall just feels like a chore to play. It doesn't feel like Doom at all. It feels like this weird platform shooter with RPG elements. The enemies are total bullet sponges, You run out of ammo way too quickly, That whole mechanic where you have to find weak spots to the enemies and shoot them, just totally disrupts the flow of combat. I spend more time trying to find ammo then I do on the enemies. Doom 2016 was a masterpeice but this? I don't know what it is to be honest. but I don't think I have ever been so disapointed with a game. The story was just not needed at all. Nobody plays Doom for the story, It feels nothing like the original game.. I just flushed my money down the toilet because I will NEVER go back to this pile of shit.

I loved Doom and i was so excited. Took 3 weeks to come through the mail. FUCKING SUCKS. Theres no way you can enjoy the game. Never enough gas, never enough ammos , the arenas are too small and big monsters everywhere, annoying machineries and weak points, repetitive monsters, its like too much of everything, im not finishing that shit and im selling it ASAP

At least you can sell it. I bought it digitally so I'm fucked.

Two months out but just had to say, most frustrating game I've ever played and I started gaming in the fucking 80s. I like games to be fun, fuck me right? Even when I do well it's so hectic and frustrating I'm pissed off after succeeding, rather than feeling accomplished. I've played every Doom, must have played through the 2016 version 5x, and if I bother to beat this one I'm never picking it up again.

Starving for ammo has to be the absolute worst way to make a game difficult. And the platforming, some sure, but this feels like pitfall with guns.

3
level 2

To me, it feels like part Doom, part Dance Dance Revolution. For real. The bright colors, the need to strictly adhere to a pattern or die, the endless prompts. Doom Dance Revolution.

3

I uninstalled it. It's a great game and the mechanics to innovate the FPS genre are applauded but for me I got tired of the strategic run and gun style. Cycling weapons to particularly kill each biggie in their specialize way...unloading all guns, all projectiles...it was too manic and samey for me. I didn't even get the sword :( now get off my lawn. Great game but isn't too fun for me.

3

the brightly colored power ups, ammo, platforming, and general tone are all way to arcadey. its a complete stray from 2016, and its not at all what i want.

doom 2016 was one of my top 10 favorite games of all time because of its dark, hellish tone. suffice to say i wont be buying eternal.

Most of these complaints come down to sucking at the game or just being too lazy to learn the combat system. You bought Doom Eternal and you got what you paid for. Do more research next time.

I didn't read reviews before buying, so had no preconceptions. It's an okay platformer/FPS in its own right but it's just not DOOM.

Agree.

I also heard a reviewer say that it is too much of a game, if that makes sense. It's pulling from way too many other games for mass appeal, I mean it worked obviously because it sold really well but for someone experienced in FPS games it holds my hand way too much. Right when I started playing I noticed how weird the controls felt. It felt like I was covered in molasses while under water. I had to turn the sensitivity up to 90 and turn off the look smoothing completely. BTW, turning down look smoothing didn't really do much, the controller still sticks quite a bit but I got used to it. Basically if you leave all the controls on default including the massive aim assist and play on easy its essentially a visual novel. The lore is great but its Doom, not a mobile JRPG.

The platforming is a waste of everyone's time. It screams that the developers were either really lazy or just ran out of ideas, which is kinda pathetic because other than lore (I have to say the art direction is pretty great) and some fun battles there isn't much else to the game. The platforming feels like busy work and it just doesn't work very well. I've hugged a ledge from top to bottom and I didn't grab onto anything the entire time.

The AI is moronic, predictable, and battles are super repetitive. TBF thats kinda Dooms thing, but its 2020 not 1992, give me a break. On enemy in particular is the dumbest thing I've seen in Doom. I'm referring to the shield guy who projects a shield right in front of you during a fight, forget his name.

Don't even get me started on the online trash...

If this game wins Game of the Year, 2020 will be a sad year for gaming.

2
level 1

I don’t hate Doom Eternal, but...

I feel that the best quality of 2016 was its simplicity. I’ve always enjoyed Doom games because they were simple, dumb fun that you could pick up and play. Eternal turns Doom into Madden. It adds too many elements and forces you to play a certain way a little too much. The platforming, while not as difficult as people make it out to be, starts to feel obligatory in the later levels. The changes make sense as far as evolving the series (why make the same game twice?), and overall the game is fun, but I can understand why it wouldn’t be for everyone. For what it’s worth, I liked it the more I played it and got the hang of all the elements and enemy types. So I’d encourage anyone who doesn’t love it right away to stick with it at least for a while.

2
level 1

100% agree. Having major buyers remorse paying full price for this game. Absolutely obnoxious platforming in this game stopping the action in its tracks. This is like watching action movie and the actors stop for a coffee break and talk about feelings between kills. Way too much.

Agreed. It’s a mess. Mess Eternal. With monkey bars.
I honestly think they’re playing a joke on us.

Flame Belch feels like a great idea from a design meeting that got screwed up somewhere between planning and execution stages. The button layout is just plain bad. Like scratching your nose with your elbow while downhill mountain biking. And I refuse to buy a custom controller just to use basic functions.

The combat flow was smoother in 2016. Which was the most enjoyable feature (and the entire point) of the franchise. Now they’re reaching at straws, trying to improve a game that’s already polished....but only succeeding at making it worse. The chain shot is ok, but badly integrated. The reticle HUD is pathetic. The new enemies are fun, but the maps are too claustrophobic to enjoy them. The secrets are a joke. The shotgun is now just a semi-auto rifle. They stole our health-stealing grenades.
And plot line got jacked up worse than GOT Season 7.

And the monkey bars... These fucking monkey bars...

Completely agree. I'm sick of running out of ammo after every single kill so that I'm forced to use their shitty chainsaw mechanic: I've had so many instances where I'm completely out of ammo and the only things left are big demons which can't be hurt with the chainsaw, so I can't kill them. Enemies seem to continually spawn in some areas, no doubt so you can just use them as health/ammo batteries. I don't want to have to lower the difficulty just for that. I feel like I'm playing candy crush collecting all these brightly coloured objects or at some mexican kid's birthday hitting a pinata. Doom 2016 was perfection. Going to uninstall this garbage and re-download that.

2
level 1

I'm with you.

In Doom 2016 I felt like a machine of pure wrath, tearing my foes apart.

In Doom Eternal I feel like I haven't been invited to the party. I can't just jump in and kill things. I have to remember to use my flamethrower, or grenades, or the correct weapon, or chainsaw because I'm low on ammo. And I need to make sure I understand how the upgrades work and listen to all the tutorials. And do the platforming. Because I can't just punch a demon zombie anymore and have its head explode. For some reason.

2
level 1

I feel all of your pain, I'm an old guy who doesn't have a lot of time to play games so i should be able to put it on easy kill some monsters and have some fun, instead I'm scaring the shit out of my dogs shouting at the tv that it is a F@€,*£ C%_# because I keep dropping into Lava because someone thought it would be great to challenge players to junp accross a series of unstable platforms and demented swinging bars. I cant believe that i payed $170 Australian for a game that I'm probably going to quit because I dont want to spend 3 hours a level on stupid jump puzzles and other grindy b.s..

+ 1 bro.

I really dislike the grenade thing, but what most annoyed me was turning the doom slayer into an ammo beggar.

I just gave up and uninstalled the whole thing when started the quest for the third priest. 2016 game had much more interesting cutscenes as well. I see no problem on Doom lacking history. But if you are there to kill demons, god dammed, give me ammo to do that!

And the worse part are those platforms! If they at least would gave us the chance to use that shotguns's hook that could make a little sense.

2
level 1

There's no way this game would have sold so well if we knew what we were getting. If it didn't have the name DOOM in it, it would have sold way less. There are people who are now stuck with it after trying it for a couple of hours hoping they would like it. Sales for the next DLC and sequel will be down. I hope Bethesda's pockets are hurt because of this blatant marketing BS.

2
level 1

Ok so there is the reason, inside info:

Originally, doom eternal was supposed to be released as it was shown in trailers - without much color-wobble shit and ammo gambling. However, at the last minute there was a plan from Bethesda to reanimate another series, which was recently tried out as a multiplayer f2p fps and failed miserably - QUAKE.

So the plan was to add "some" elements from Quake gameplay so new people will slightly get used to it - weapon swapping, speedruns, collectibles, colored stuff, ammo juggling again. If ID were to release DOOM Eternal like 2016, then release Quake - it was predicted that a lot of newbies would be overwhelmed. So, the plan is to slooooowly make people get used to the said game mechanics, so when they try Quake they don't just outright quit from being overwhelmed.

So in fact, Doom eternal is not only a sequel to DOOM 2016, but also a proofing ground for an upcoming QUAKE project.

2
level 2

Interesting theory but original quakes didn't have shining items and arena combat in the single player campaign. That was only quake 3. but it was purely a multiplayer game anyway. And besides Quake Champions is already here.

I went ahead and downloaded WeMod and just turned on infinite jumps, and one-hit kills whenever the marauder is around. I don't have time for this shit. It's so fucking disappointing. 2016, I couldn't fucking put it down. I just HAD to play it. Doom Eternal? It's been out for a month and I don't think I've cracked 25 hours on it and I'm fucking working from home where I have time to do some gaming between other stuff. It just seems intent on making me want to stop playing because it's constantly stomping the brakes.

2

It’s truly a disappointing experience. Wouldn’t even put this in the same sentence as Doom 2016.

3
level 1

I 100% agree. They've basically made a shitty platformer and shoe-horned in some confused battles. I've spent longer dying due to falling off shit than I have due to the demons. It's ruined the game for me. I didn't spend the money to be frustrated.

2
level 1

I played it for 6 hours thus far and hated almost every sec of it, a run and gun shooter focused on fast pace shooting now downgraded into fast melee/shooter hype and force you to melee in the middle of chaos, I thought I was the only one not enjoying this game so far.

this is the same way they ruined wolfenstein 2

Hate to say this, but Doom Eternal is grossly inferior to Doom 2016. There are many reasons for this, but among the most salient in my opinion are:

  1. The game has frustrating and disinteresting difficulty design. You run out of ammo far too often, all too often leading to you having to pitter around the stage like a dumbass looking for more. The chainsaw rarely helps because just when you need the chainsaw to get more, you have insufficient fuel remaining to saw through the enemies around you, so at that point you're basically fucked.

  2. Platforming is much more prevalent, and it strangely is completely separated from combat. It's tedious and slows down the game, so it's not much more than a hassle meant to lengthen levels. Sometimes the puzzles they have lying in wait for you are so obscure your only hope is an internet guide if you want to get through the level without becoming incredibly bored and frustrated.

  3. Doom Eternal substantially diminishes player freedom when it comes to play style choices. There are substantially more RPG-style elements in combat, since enemies have weak spots which serve as the only practical way to kill them. This in turn forces you to choose highly specific mod loadouts on your weapons or else you will be in for a very hassling experience.

  4. The menu and general design asthetic, which is more akin to the Doom titles from twenty years ago, feels goofy. It's hard to take any of the evil characters seriously, whereas in Doom 2016 you felt like you were up against some supernatural demons. Now it's been replaced by your mission to kill Nute Gunray and his Neimoidian droogs and it's such a mood killer. The menu text is equally as bad of an eyesore.

  5. This game strains the hell out of your eyes. Even after playing for an hour, your retinas literally start to hurt from how much shit is flying past your visual field. This is not helped in the slightest from how often you need to turn to run away from the enemies you can't kill because of the broken ammo economy and flawed RPG elements.

2
level 1

I agree. I recently brought it in the PSN sale.

Right off the bat, bethesda wants you to sign in with an account, and you can't play until you do. Throughout the game, you lose connection to their site and the game pauses to tell you this, usually in the middle of a fight or tricky platforming section.

I strongly disliked the over reliance of the chainsaw for ammo. Firefights are a frustrating chore because of this new mechanic.

The constant pop up tutorials annoyed me, the platforming was out of place for a Doom game, and I also found the sound design irritating. Is it me, or is the music too loud? Guns sound a bit pathetic unless you turn the music down to around 25-30.

Didn't enjoy it all. If it wasn't a digital game, I would have traded it in by now.

I just don't see what the majority of gamers are seeing. It's nice to see there are others that share my thoughts.

2
level 1

I'll just say this. Doom 2016 had me grinning from ear to ear from the very first gore nest. I was running around like a madman.......I was bored almost instantly playing this one. The glory kill animations all look the same. The chainsaw is less brutal looking and the levels seem really differently designed. Doom has always been about killing stupid amounts of things at once and they're trying to change that. Also, I hate how you can't glory kill the most basic enemies with one shot anymore.

2
level 1

I don't understand anybody saying this one is faster paced. Constantly pulling up the weapon wheel for a demon's weakness completely changes the flow to me, and for the worse. And because of ammo scarcity, you basically have to do this. I like the idea of the demons having weaknesses to certain weapons, but I have zero interest in playing a Doom where I have to seriously think about ammo constantly.

Cacodemons feel easier to kill with an instant stagger, but also less satisfying because you have this long animation to watch from their one-hit weakness. Traps and platforming just feel in the way. I play plenty of hard games with strict resource management, to be honest this doesn't feel harder than Doom 2016 so long as you are using the right weapons and tactics, it does feel more tedious though.

Also the visual design looks worse to me, "more story" is a negative here, and they've also added in Denuvo which is among the worst DRM in the industry. Idk, maybe I'd like it more if I gave it more time but my first impression is disappointment and I'm getting a refund. 2016 hooked me within the first 10 minutes, this turned me off the game completely within an hour and a half.

2

I hate it too man. They sucked all the fun out of this, while 2016 was so good. What a shame.

I know its an old topic, but this is still relevant for me today. I love the game by visual design aspects and was super excited to get into it. But the play mechanics, while not terribly difficult to master, is not exactly enjoyable either. It is tedious, stress inducing and just overall annoying.

No, this is definitely not the Doom we know and love, let alone 2016. This is a whole different beast disguised in sheep's wool.

The only thing that I felt would redeem itself, is if the devs would have made the fuel system charge twice as fast. Because it is PAINFULLY slow for such a fast paced, intense fps that forces you unforgivably to mind your very small ammo, armor and health pools.

Having to constantly look at my HUD, more than any other game I've played before in my life, is not exactly awesome. You have demons in front of you and you're all over the place trying to see how far along you are before you can finally swing out the chain saw, only to see it's still half ways charged. Not only that, it won't work on heavier demons unless it's double charged, which requires you to farm fuel tanks to achieve. I mean come on! What happened to the concept of "FUN"?????

Sadly, the game only becomes more enjoyable, once you've completed about 75% of it.

By then, many have quit (i have a bunch of friends on my Steam account who hate this game and never got to finish it...).

I beat the game once and I am now doing another run for an achievement. I thought it would be much more enjoyable, now that I know how the game works...but no. It's utterly annoying.

Simple fix imho... double the refuel rate speed. I will forgive all if the devs would get off their high horses and just be a bit more reasonable. The game will still be tough as nails, but at least once you get good practice, it won't be as tedious, nor will you find yourself constantly evading like a scared child.

HE'S THE GODDAMN DOOM SLAYER FFS! He doesn't go run and hide. He runs head first into the horde to rip and tear until it is done!

Don't get me started on the Battlemode or the pink unicorn suit... No idea what's happening over at ID and Bethesda... It's sad.

I couldn’t agree more, I beat Doom 2016 3 times including on the hardest difficulty. I’m just now circling around to play Eternal, starting on the hardest difficulty, and a little over a quarter into the game and I’m getting destroyed. I’m someone who loves a healthy challenge and don’t feel cheated when I die in most games because I play with such a high challenge curve. Between the change in combat mechanics, ammo farming, change in level design, and a departure from the minimalistic style that made 2016 so great I can’t help but to be super disappointed. Been trying to gut it out and at least finish it but with a back library 20+ games deep and a diminishing desire to do so I can’t say I will anytime soon.

I am liking it more and more but it was a rude awakening for sure, as the YouTube CC’s warned us it would be. Personally, I wish it were a little less complicated as of writing this, but as I get the hang of it, I think I’m gonna end up liking it all after I get gud. The platforming is annoying me most. Don’t get me wrong I love platforming and I love Doom platforming. But I swear I use up all my armor and extra lives on dumb gymnastic shit more than against the enemy. And it’s not because I don’t know what I’m doing. There’s some rng involved when it comes to catching a ledge or not, there has to be. And more metal! I’m on the 5th level and it’s been all chanting and throat singing so far besides the slayer gates.

You just have to manage ammo more effectively and only use weapons that are effective on specific enemies. You can't spam one ammo type or you'll run out. I prefer this new system to 2016's by a long shot, it's so much more fast and visceral, yet challenging at the same time.

I understand why some people don’t like Eternal but they never give any constructive criticism on why. Yeah the platforming is clunky but it’s really not that bad except for maybe the levels Super Gore Nest and Urdak. The main reason that stuff is in there is due to all the complaints on how repetitive 2016 was. The game is trying to please everyone which is impossible, but at least try to appreciate the effort. Yeah Eternal is further from perfection than 2016 in my opinion but hey I still enjoy it more. Give the game an entire playthrough then make your verdict, yes it does have a bad first impression but keep playing, if you actually take the time to learn the combat loop you’ll have fun. One Chainsaw pip recharges every 10 seconds, and there’s also fuel around the map, if you’re running out of ammo that’s honestly your fault not the game. (Though the max ammo capacity is pretty bad, I can agree. You only get 24 rounds for the shotgun at max, should be 28.)

I'm with you, fuck this game. I played for several hours trying to force myself to like it because people are falling all over themselves to congratulate ID for shitting on the franchise and I give up I don't get it. It's like they made a list of every fun thing in 2016 and then promptly removed it while adding the worst bits of other genres like farming, resource management, and platforming. Then theres bethesda trying to force you to sign up for some shit bethesda account (which can be bypassed with a crack) I'm done with it. thanks bethesda\ID for shitting on THE FPS icon that all others were compared against. It's fucking refund time.

It's just a mod! It feels like a fan made mod that was slapped together quickly. Smoother, squidgier animations. Brighter more cartoony looking graphics. "Makes you feel like an unstoppable killing machine" - makes you run out of ammo before than can happen actually. There is next to nothing new here. The immersion is gone. Replaced by a new difficulty setting, some bright colours and familiar but smoother gameplay mechanics. Stick in a load of FPS platforming and a bog standard shitty predictable story "Some Demons came to earth and took over because whatever, fuck you."

I can't stress what a rip off this game is. I requested a refund after 1 hour and having seen my friend play through the rest, I'm glad I did. I felt like I was just playing the arcade mode unlock on doom 16 but with no ammo. 4/10

This stupid platform jumping killed my wish for playing.

This is what I did not expect from this game, is it a donkey kong or FPS?

So fckn frustrating pat of a game, after 2nd mission I had to uninstall it.

Is there a way to refund, this is not a game I wanted to buy?

I agree with the comments on this page. I was looking forward to this game having dished out 60 odd and now on Lv3 I am beginning to regret it. Unnecessary number of collectibles and jumps that are just unwarranted. It's like another commented - this is an expression of all the ideas thrown into the cauldron with no quality control nor boundaries.

If ever there was a button basher it was this one. Next time I shall exercise caution before purchasing the next Doom title. If it's anything remotely like this one suffice to say I won't be purchasing even if it was for free.

I am a Doom person, having played all games at all levels ,all the time. This game is simply no fun...period...in the end that is generally why you play a game. Too bad...back to another play through of 2016... tired of reloading checkpoints.

Had to amend, playing again and loving the game, best ever

Possible spoilers....spoilers.....spoilers.... Spoilers.....spoilers....spoilers I'm at the part of the game to where I must reconfigure the portals to get back to earth. I swear the platforming is damn "wonky" in this game. I was loving this game but the platforming has put me off. The action and shooting are perfect and then ...boom...momentum kill with the platforming. Even when I make the jumps and hit the mark, it shoots me to the side or the opposite direction of where I need to be. It's such a buzzkill bc I want to finish the game but the lvl I'm at now, this jump is all but impossible. Idk man, I'm not giving up just yet but almost tempted

I hate it too supposed to be FPS all this jumping around is driving me nuts.

I'm literally over it.

Just finished the game and needed to rant ! I felt like the first half of the game was great. Collecting items and upgrading all your weapons. I liked the story, designs, and the music. Locations are stunning and the lore they added was always great to read and spend time in.

My finally impressions are ...I'm abit pissed off? Like I played on ps4 - and there were noticable frame drops later on in the game where you just basically use the BFG and your Sword constantly. I get what they're trying to do but I dont feel like that works.

I love the platforming ! When it works...I kept falling off multiple times. And I would press the grab button but by the time I've pressed it it would disappear and turn into a punch...like on doom guy likes to punch but after like 15 times come onnnn!

I hated the last boss just a massive bullet sponge. Nothing interesting about it? You literally dont even know what it is until you see it. There is no rivalry here. I get it but theres not really a connection to doom guy other then "we gotta kill this thing"

Doom hunter was cool at first, you're seeing how he gets made and there's all this hype! Even the name Doom Hunter... sounds awesome! I loved that. maybe the 2nd and even third time as a boss...but really....like 10 for no reason?? I feel like they could've added more? Something more fun and exciting.

The game feels complicated and there is a learning curve. When you got it down though it's so smooth! I can imagine on pc switching weapons is amazing but on a controller not to much. You can't map any guns or switch conveniently. You have to stop time and select the weapon you want. Again it's fine but it's slow and fuck.

Guns are great. Loved them all except the rocket launcher just to slow. I just end up using the double barrel 90% of the time.

Love the first time you meet the Marauder so fucking cool, and the voice! Jesus its sends shivers down your spine. I thought "oh shitt this is about to be a fight". Then 5 or 6 of them later they become annoying. Again why? Add a new design at least? These are bosses turned into mini bosses after all. And I dont think the bosses are that good in general here.

I didnt find the game enjoyable in the end. I'm not the best fps gamer. But it was just frustrating later on in the game. I feel like because the game is so fast paced it's hard to slow down. Take in the story and understand what's going on and appricate it. But people who play doom aren't necessarily in it for the story. If that's the case...why have one? Maybe they tried to do both and cater to both audiences. Maybe it's not my type of game anymore. For me this didnt work. I'd rather have it be full on story and slower - that was my expectation from the trailers. I dont know in the end it was a cool ride but I doubt I'll play it again. 6/10

I agree wholeheartedly...
The story is just oh so boring, the parkour bs is annoying, all the character that the Slayer interacts with sucks... pretty much I would rather play Doom 2016 rather than this catastrophe they called Doom Eternal...

I couldn't agree more; this game is such a letdown for me. I hate all the jumping more than anything. It's five minutes of action followed by 20 minutes of trying to solve some platform puzzle.

I agree, the ammo is stupid, and some enemies like the marauder just break the flow of combat. It's doom you shouldn't have to kill anything in a special way and you should be picking up ammo scattered through out the maps.

2016 is the better game. Although i do like allot of the original enemies design throwback. And the boss fights were pathetic. Multiplayer sucks ass, what happened to deathmatch or just coop? It was a fun first playthrough even though sometimes on ultraviolence it offers you cheat armor if you keep dying, why not just complete the game for me then? If i wanted it to be easy i would have selected easy.

Probably won't play it again, it's killed doom for me.

At least the originals and Doom 64 still have their old school integrity and not to mention a butt load of mods and WADs that far outclass this so called triple A piece of candy pop hair metal band trash.

I can see where everyone is coming from, but I don't mind the ammo farming and platforming. In a way I think the ammo farming is good. In DOOM 2016 I was always too reserved with my chai saw use to where I almost never used it/ even forgot I had it. Giving it a very useful, Integral, and often used purpose is a plus to me since it has fuel Regen. And the platforming isn't that bad at all, but I also love Cluster Truck and Mirrors Edge so platforming is always a plus to me. My only issue is poor optimization on PC. Otherwise I'm loving it so far .

I found this thread thanks to a friend. Both of us enjoyed the hell out of Eternal, and had nitpicks that(as we would think about them) grew into problems for him and/or i.

In my mind, Doom eternal, and doom 2016 are very similar. They have very strict guidelines for the player. You KNEW what areas were where the shooting was gonna happen. And you KNEW what areas were not...

This was one thing Doom 3 did that was different.Because in there, every hallway, every corner, and room, could hold an ambushing demon. But thats a different kind of game anyway.

The old games were like doom 3, but also like 2016/eternal.You KNEW there were demons ahead, but you could back track and load up on health or ammo. You knew you could trigger the demons into following you into a hall to narrow down the threat. So, there was a bit of tactical thinking. Gaming the game.Thats one thing doom 2016/eternal got away from. The tactical-ness of the old game. The control the player has over his game session. You can Leave the room where all the demons were waiting for you. Or stay, however YOU feel the flow needs to go.

In these later games(Eternal/2016). You DONT have that choice. Its sink or swim. You either manage fighting the horde they throw at you. Or you drown. Which i get, theres a trend to appeal to difficulty as there is an appeal to twitch streamers to(a economical one perhaps?)

I think, and this is just a crazy cooky theory from a longtime fan of the series...But they played Doom/Doom 2, and picked up on 2 aspects to the game.

  1. Gratuitous violence with a "fast" Doomguy.

  2. Berserker packs.... berserker packs because "rip and tear".

And from those 2 facets of the game(everything else being irrelevent) they built their gameplay-system.

Oh yeah, and Brutal Doom was peaking...And someone was paying attention.

The music was another thing that im gonna nitpick on. It served its purpose of amplifying the speed/violence of the game your playing, but ill be damned if any of it was memorable. Admittedly, im a bit spoiled from Slayer, Kreator, and Exodus anyway...

Besides all that rambling, Doom Eternal was an exciting time, albeit a short time, after i had finished it. I really felt there was nothing else to do with it. I had already finished the story, did the collectables, know the quirks of the enemies, and the fights. Going back to it just felt like the law of deminishing returns, at an extremely high rate.

Now im gonna go back to Brutal Doom. Cheers 🍻🍻🍻

Yeah I don't like the new combat system, but I do see the appeal for people who love arena shooting Quake style, but I have Quake for that.

Also the graphics are different, some better some worse. The environment textures might have been a bit lower in 2016 but they looked more grounded and organic than Eternal. Love the look of the gore nest though. But there's something missing in Eternal, it seems "too simple".

Love that Eternal has more story, but I liked 2016's way of conveying it (never taking you out of the game)

All in all I would love to have DOOM 2016 with the new body destruction system and just a continuation of the story.

Buffing enemies with Totems and Arch Vile is the worst!!!

I love quake, I played doom to unplug and switch off. Hate eternal.

It's like Ninja Gaiden in Hell.

The platforming I hate. Love the rest of the game, I'm not sure why they've decided to double-down on the worst feature in Doom 2016. It's a fun game, but then you have to jump around for half an hour with a clumsy, unforgiving and ultimately inconsequential platform section. You'll get there, you'll just want to smash your screen doing so.

This game feels like the doom guy lost his pockets and it’s stupid as all hell. The other reason it’s sucks is because this game has become monster hunter 3D. Wtf happened to your pockets man!
