Beginning today, we will not allow the sharing of private media, such as images or videos of private individuals without their consent. Publishing people's private info is also prohibited under the policy, as is threatening or incentivizing others to do so.

Let’s unpack what this means. This policy update will help curb the misuse of media to harass, intimidate, and reveal the identities of private individuals, which disproportionately impacts women, activists, dissidents, and members of minority communities.

To be clear, we require a first-person report of the photo/video in question (or from an authorized representative). After we receive a report, that particular media will be reviewed before any enforcement action is taken.

Context matters. Our existing private information policy includes many exceptions in order to enable robust reporting on newsworthy events and conversations that are in the public interest.

We will take into consideration whether the image is publicly available and/or is being covered by journalists—or if a particular image and the accompanying Tweet text adds value to the public discourse—is being shared in public interest or is relevant to the community.

"This policy is not applicable to media featuring public figures or individuals when media and accompanying Tweet text are shared in the public interest or add value to public discourse" who determines this?

as a private company, twitter has quite a bit of freedom as to what it allows on its platform. twitter could decide only people with names starting with "m" are allowed to post, and it would be perfectly legal. Or that we're only allowed to post in haikus.

This is horrible. Pictures include random folks, person, etc. in the background or not. You can't reach out to random folks and ask to post the pic you just took. This is like a State Run CCP type rule. Horrific.

You didn't read the Blog. You can post pictures especially pictures if the people are stars through media. They don't want you to use Instagram personal pictures. Like using a Friend of a stars. You have to ask permission. They control those pics, they took them.

This policy is astonishingly vague, badly written, and wide open to abuse. Your pool of moderators does not realistically have enough local knowledge to make the assessments required. What are you thinking here?

Lots of potential confusion with this new privacy policy. Note, I did not get my Friend’s permission to post this - so is this prohibited? Who does the flagging? How will this work? What if I make it a gif and put in the library for me or anyone to upload?
The media could not be played.

So if I take a picture of a landmark and have some people in it, would posting that violate this policy? Or if I share a video like the one of George Floyd being murdered, would I need the consent of everyone in that video? Because that video is the reason there was justice.

First instance, yes, if those people were recognizable and had an objection to their image being shared. A simple "blur" could make the photo fine. The second instance would be covered by this-

If this policy had been in place a year ago, there's a real good chance no one would have ever been charged in the Ahmaud Arbery case and who knows how many other instances of crimes by police.

Why is he getting sprayed? He is standing with his hands above his head bothering no one except the police man that wanted to use the spray before it expired.
