A comprehensive list of Halo 4's shortcomings

I'm attempting to make a list of all things missing or downgraded in Halo 4 compared to previous Halo games. Unfortunately it's a long list, and to be honest I'm scratching my head at why they removed so many things. I don't think this is everything, so if you see something not on here or I got something wrong, I can remove/add it.

[Update] I've added links to clarify on why some of these issues are on the list.

General

  • You can only be on 4 teams(compared to 8 in previous games). This was incorrect.

  • You can't view the campaign terminals ingame; you must go to waypoint.

  • Can't hold the back button and move around at the same time.

  • Scrolling through players in the scoreboard is more difficult. Instead of holding back and using the right analog stick to move through them, you must use the d-pad. See here

  • The indicators for your teammates' statuses aren't as clear as they used to be. Teammates no longer show an X over their corpse. You can no longer tell if a teammate is shooting(yellow in previous games). When a teammate is being shot, their arrow flashes red faintly(compared to a strong orange in previous games).

  • [Added] Can't view which secondary weapon you're holding. See here

  • [Added] No longer shows an icon ingame to indicate who is talking.

Custom Games

  • Removed the ability to make any variant of CTF other than Multi-flag CTF. This means 1-Flag and Neutral Flag don't exist anymore. I don't think you can trick forge into getting them to work either, since 1-Flag needs the round to reset after a flag capture, and CTF will not spawn a flag marked as 'neutral' unless there is someone on a 'neutral' team.

  • Can't make it so you can drop the flag.

  • Can't disable sprint. See here

  • Can't turn off/on instant-respawn. It's off in CTF and Dominion, but is on in most(all?) other gametypes.

  • Respawn time is a mostly irrelevant setting with instant respawn time not being toggle-able.

  • Can't modify CTF to have to hold a button to pick up the flag.

  • Can't make assault how it used to be. If you use Grifball to make Assault, then you are able to throw the bomb around. You can play assault by swapping the flag capture points around, but that requires making a map specifically for "assault".

  • Removed Race, Territories, Stockpile, Headhunter, and Juggernaut. Some of these were removed because of redundance, but other than for territories, you can't make anything like them anymore. You can't make stockpile at all. You can't make headhunter at all. You can't make Juggernaut how it used to be. You can rig together a race gametype using KotH.

  • Can't modify Flood in any meaningful way. The flood are required to have their three base loadouts with thruster pack, promethean vision, and invis. They cannot use any weapons other than the flood sword.

  • Except for slayer, you can't modify how many points you get for doing certain things. For example, you can't set it so that kills count for points in a CTF game.

  • [Added] Weapons you place down on the map physically(without using the ordnance system) won't show up in some gametypes(slayer pro, infection), but they'll show up in others(infinity slayer, CTF). There is also no option to turn the 'weapons on map' setting on/off, unless you're messing with initial ordnance.

  • [Added] Can no longer create your own power-ups.

  • [Added] When setting extra points for a headshot kill in a slayer gametype, sniper headshots will not count for the extra points.

  • [Added] Can no longer change the oddball scoring mechanic.

Forge

  • Can't use precision moving anymore(pushing the left thumbstick down in Reach)

  • Can't zoom in anymore.

  • When placing objects inside/near walls on Ravine(possibly on other maps), it will push the objects away, even when using coordinate editing.

  • When using magnets to align objects, sometimes the objects will not align properly and there will be a small but noticeable bump between them.

  • You can set objects to belong to teams 5 through 8, but those teams do not exist.

  • You can set objectives to belong to a neutral team, but no gametypes support it.

  • You can set 'symmetry=true/false' on objects, but there are no asymmetric gametypes.

  • [Added] Magnets can't snap to angles.

  • [Added] The 'reloading shift glitch' was not fixed. See here

Theater

  • You cannot view campaign or spartan ops replays.

  • [Added] Unable to view replays with friends.

  • [Added] In film clips, the announcer can no longer be heard(somtimes? Conflicting reports).

Split-screen

  • Bad framerate lag on half of the maps, specifically Complex, Meltdown, Vortex, Exile, and Relay(not in matchmaking). Any map made entirely of forge pieces or uses a decent bit of forge pieces lags considerably in split-screen. The pre-made maps for Erosion and Ravine do not seem to lag.

  • The HUD is cluttered. In CTF, it still shows how far away you are from the flag. The icons that mark objectives are the same size as they are in full-screen. Icons for initial ordnance are the same size as they are in full-screen. Weapon reticles are the same size as they are in full-screen(even in 4-player split-screen). The icons for objectives never leave your screen; this means in Dominion, you always have all three points' icons on your screen. Medal names and how many points they're worth still show up.

  • Plasma grenades do not glow until you are very close to them.

  • [Added] In Spartan Ops, it won't let you view the week's episode claiming that you can't go in theater mode in split-screen.

Campaign(No spoilers)

  • [Added] Removed point scoring. As a result, the timer was also removed(used for speed runs).

Matchmaking

  • [Added] Can't search for matches based on best connection(international players being matched with the US playerbase).

Came into this thread expecting butthurt and complaints about how bad it is, but I'm impressed - hoping that 343 addresses most of these throughout the next few weeks.

Agreed, I was really disappointed that the multiplayer had been strip-mined down to so few modes. Whether they were popular or not, I liked being able to play Stockpile, 1-Flag, neutral flag, ect. Territories was cool and Regicide is OK but it's more of a standalone FFA, and Juggernaut was a LOT more fun and chaotic.

Headhunter was interesting and I could ilve without it, but not having a stand-alone Assault game type really grinds my gears; Assault is and has always been my favorite game type in Halo, mostly because of my fond memories of Halo 2 and Halo 3 matches.

There was a lot more strategy involved then CTF, or it at least took more time and it was a combination of multiple mechanics that made it awesome.

Yep, it's a great game and 343 did a great job, but these little things are all really nice additions. Although I'm not going to lie, not being able to hold back and move at the same time is quite frustrating, do we know if 343 check this subreddit?

I'm not sure if this is a shortcoming or not, but I found that Halo Waypoint Career stats didn't take into account my Solo Legendary play-through.Could it be because I did it without going on XBL at all? I kind of do not want to play through it again anytime soon.

I really hope they work on at least some of these shortcomings. It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult for them to work most of these fixes into a patch or two.

Me and my step bro just spent the past 2 days making an awesome forge map on erosion designed for offense/defense 1 flag CTF... we are disappoint.

Pretty comprehensive list. The custom games options just seem like a kick in the balls. As for the functionality of the radar and such, that just seems like bad design choices. But I just can't come up with an intelligent justification for the neutering of custom game options, other than being too lazy to include them, which is unacceptable in my opinion.

Keep in mind the game was already on two disks, so maybe the space issue made them strip down multiplayer, but I don't know much about that sort of stuff so don't take my word.

As a player outside the US (Australia Specifically) I'd like to add what has become a huge problem in the Multiplayer/War Games.

The inability to set matchmaking options, specifically "Best Connection" causes me to keep being matched with US players.

This has, sadly, broken the entire multiplayer experience for me and is a huge detriment to Aus/NZ Halo players.

Anything that requires precision (!) timing or skill gets real muddy and broken. Sticking plasma grenades, plasma pistol on vehicles... these things become very hard.

The omission in and of itself feels staggering as it seems like there would be zero detriment in having that feature stay. Instead it portrays 343 Industries as another US developer that is only worried about US gameplay and cares not for international players.

Considering games like Transformers: Fall of Cybertron can allow me to search by region, in an attempt to cull this issue, it's a shame and embarassment that the Xbox 360's best multiplayer experience has been so seriously marred by such a small oversight.

Forget balance, HUD elements, features and functionality. The innate ability to find and join a game is broken by virtue of where I live, an issue that was not present in the previous game.

No control over in game audio / music / dialogue volume in settings menu.

Guns disappear way too fast. If you drop your sniper it will despawn in ~12 seconds I think if no players are near it.

BR has one thing over the DMR. If the enemy has very little shields, one shot with the BR will pierce the shields and kill him. If the same enemy was shot with a DMR, it would take two shots (one to deplete the shields and one to kill).

Agreed, especially in Campaign when you're low on ammo and can't find any of the enemies dropped weapons.

Oh, and the BR is useful if you tend to play at mid range, but yeah, the DMR is usually more useful.

You can't see what secondary weapon you're holding. This is especially annoying in Campaign where they switch your weapons all the time so you have to cycle to see what you have.

There is no red X for dead teammates. Shooting teammates tag turns lighter blue instead of yellow and doesn't appear on the side of the screen if they are slightly out of view

Magnets cannot snap angles.

No large open forgeable areas (by comparison).

Still can't forge underwater (why?)

No file share at launch

The no file browser thing is pretty annoying. There isn't even one on waypoint that you can use for Halo 4.

Also, as a self-defined Halo sniper.. I dislike the fact they they do not distinguish between a head-shot kill with the sniper and a regular kill. I used to get my rocks off with all those snipe medals now they're just "sniper kills."

The new menu system is an unnecessary downgrade. I doubt they can fix it, but still. It sucks compared to Reach. Reach's was smoother than butter on a bald monkey.

The biggest issue I current have with the game is uneven teams. As someone who plays in a party with 2 other friends, it really bothers me that about 75% of the time we end up playing 4v3. Or if someone quits out it won't fill their spot.

120,000 people playing infinity slayer and they can't find one more to throw in our party?

All the other problems are not that bad and it's normal for a Halo game after launch. Though, the custom game limitations are truly upsetting. It's like they're intentionally trying to kill it off...

Campaign (co-op): Doors will slam shut and insta-kill players. This is really annoying when you've been carrying a power weapon for half the level.

Other Multiplayer issues

  • Uneven team starts

  • No Basic weapons on the ground

  • No white indicator to see who is talking

  • No spectator mode

  • Instant re spawn for oddball (needs to be timed)

A few of my problems.

-When you get shot while sprinting or moving, you slow down

-If you have a flood game with only one life and alpha zombie dies, the round won't end

No X over the corpse deserves its own bullet point. this is a huge problem, especially for organized teams that chatter. Snipe down my x does't exist anymore.

You should add the fact that when you are zoomed in and get shot, you dont zoom back out, you stay zoomed in.

In my opinion, this is the biggest WTF that 343 did. I pray every night that they will change this in an update

I really miss spending hours on the forge maps in halo 3 to get all the skulls, and then doing the same in the campaign, for me skulls don't mean anything when you have access to them all at the beginning. Who remembers the out of bounds minefield skull thing on that desert map in halo 3? You had to build a defensive structure to the edge of the map just to get the thing.

Another major issue with forge is the reloading shift glitch. Whenever you reload a map the objects shift up to .4 units depending on the connection. This plagued Reach and yet it still has yet to be fixed. It's not too major but on maps with vehicles a .4 unit bump could easily flip a hog. It's somewhat fixable with the new lock system but not completely. And it can cause close objects to z-fight and potentially drop the framerate.

You can't switch sprint and crouch. I'd love to have sprint be mapped to the B button and bring crouch back to the L3. It's much harder to crouch jump now!

A few that I have seen in the comments located in one comment:

  • [Tankbox] In theater, you cannot view the clip/film from first person POV of any of the players in the game. You can only view first person as the author of the clip/film.

  • [eyeFX] Guns disappear WAY too fast in multiplayer and in campaign. The gun only stays on map for 12 seconds if there are no players around AND no player is looking at the weapon (the game marks the weapon as insignificant; source: Walshy's Stream).

  • [eyeFX] No control of game audio, can't control menu SFX, menu music, game music (such as campaign, or music when a team is nearing victory), game SFX, voice chat, etc...

  • [southpaw_xi] No VIP gamemode, which was introduced in Halo 3.

  • [Speedingturtle] No file browser to view trending clips, or funny moments, or cool screenshots.

  • [ForceofBillions] No firefight game mode, also there are no hidden skills to collect.

  • [BiohazardBlaze] Can no longer filter matchmaking by "Best Connection," "Most Talkative," "Most Skilled," etc... Apparently, this is a large problem for players outside the US, because they are matched with international hosts, which force them to have poor connection in game.

  • [Ianlan1an] Has some great feedback to give. I recommend reading through that. It is a little ragey, but whatever. Except the point about skill-based ranking, that is confirmed for 4, but it will not be implemented until early next year, although the system is currently tracking all stats (just not displaying any information Source).

  • [Tankbox] No power weapons on map greatly reduce map balancing. Normal map flow should force team with map control to fight for power weapons in vulnerable map positions (to keep the fight for map control balanced). Now, there is no reason for a team with map control to be forced to move/rotate to other positions for power-weapon spawns.

  • [Tankbox] Never been implemented, but if a map ties for voting, of the tied winners, a RANDOM map should be selected. Not the first one on the list 100% of the time.

Hopefully this helps lay down some of the features that everyone here has posted. This should get added into one concise post, and then forwarded and chained to Halo 4 forums so it can get some attention. Great post OP, you did good.

This. I play for a few hours (3-4) averaging roughly 3000+ XP per game and I hit the limit. I really hope they raise it. Adding to that, I always end up getting challenges and such after I've hit the limit. I got this weeks 7000xp weekly and didn't receive the XP. I would presume I'd be about 5 levels higher had there been no limit - I'm currently SR35.

I've been a HALO fan since Combat Evolved. I do like a few things 343i has done, but most of what you said is the truth. At first, I was excited about there not being constant wars over power weapons, then I actually played a few matches. I like the idea of picking your weapon to start with, but the "power" weapons that do spawn don't spawn as quickly as vehicles respawn. I also dislike that if I drop a power weapon it disapears after a few seconds where as I used to be able to die, respawn and rush to it again. Vehicles have always been kinda OP, but now it's just rediculious with the Star Wars robot. How many vehicles do you need on a map? Halo to me was about skill with weapons and getting the better weapons... not camping for vehicle spawns. I also noticed, I can no longer BR a banshee down like I could in the pervious games. Lastly, the sniper seems a little off. It might be that .5 second thing you were talking about but I'm not entirely sure. I've also come across hitting people in the head in matchmaking and no kill which is rediculious.

On a side note, I loved the campaign. Also, I love the magnum. It's turned into my favorite gun so far. I can kill someone with a BR or DMR faster with a magnum now.

NO OPTION TO AUTOMATICALLY SAVE A GAME FILM. WHAT THE FUCK 343.

This bit REALLY upset me when I went to theater only to discover it was missing. I don't understand why they kept so much of these things out!

As far as the playlists go, you should calm down a bit on that - 343 has already said nearly all of those things will be coming in the weeks and months ahead (ridiculous, I agree, but whatever).

Also, I might have missed it, but you didn't list the part where you no longer get taken out of your zoom when shot at. Seriously, I hate that more than almost anything.

One more thing - Isn't ranked matchmaking coming in the future? I'm pretty sure they confirmed it was.

I whole heartedly agree with everything in combat as well as a mostly everything else you have mentioned on here. I am kind of going through r/halo in order to point out the huge shortcoming of picking your own spawn weapons. If you spawn with eh BR and DMR every single game then there really is no need to pick up any other weapons. It seems to me that if you are using anything besides the DMR or the DMR you are a HUGE disadvantage at most all the engagements you find in H4.

A lot of the objective type games don't work with all the of the long range weaponry and getting picked off while running with the flag or the the oddball is just no fun. specially in more open maps. You would be able to at least defend yourself with the flag most of the time since you had to get close to hit them with it. Now you get picked off time after time.

ALL I see is the BR and DMR being used all game. I can use the AR successfully in some maps but it just doesn't have the range to counter the BR/DMR. I see no one spawn with Storm Rifle of the SUppressor and to a lesser extend the Carbine even. There is no point to even really move a round the map if you spawn with with all you need till you die.

Agree on most of your points. I think 343 has nailed most of the things, but it is missing that polish Bungie rubbed in with their love oils.

You nailed some of the complaints I couldn't quite pinpoint. I think my biggest gripe is the loadout and ordnance systems. Without having weapons spawn on the map in a predictable manner, there's little or no reason to visit some of the outer territory in large maps. It also makes the game even more camp heavy than it used to be.

The fact that you can spawn with a weapon that has range almost on par with a sniper rifle makes it a cardinal sin to even stick your head out in the open without a reliable source of cover. And yes, the sword is total shit. They shouldn't have removed the lunge.

Your playlist points are ok, but you have to realize that it's the first week. Do you remember any of the Halo games having as varied/great playlist selections late in their lifetimes compared to the first week?

Yeah, me neither.

Your Aesthetic points all just seem to be growing pains. I hated the new Facebook when it came out, as did every single other person (So many statuses were, "OH MY GOD BRING BACK OLD FACEBOOK!") but now can't imagine not having it be that way.

It's just change. It's a completely new trilogy, with a completely new developer. I would have been pissed if they just copy/pasted all of Bungie's amazing ideas and features.

I've already gotten used to it, as will everyone else.

Also the picking the first map wins thing is purposefully put in there and has been in there since Halo: Reach. Many vote sessions can tie, so they go with the first over the second/third, second over third, and third having to get the majority to win.

However, your Combat points are very, very poorly thought out.

1- Not being able to pick up random weapons on maps? Good thing. Your Halo 2 example just brings the major flaws of that mechanic into life.

The SMG was the worst starting weapon in the history of Halo. It came down to, "Hope there's a BR or something somewhere! Or else I'm fucked!" every single time. Same for Halo 3/Reach. Either you found a DMR/Battle Rifle somewhere, or you were quickly killed by someone with a precision weapon. Or you waited until one spawned close by.

Do you remember getting the Sniper Rifle on Coagulation? With SMG starts? It was a blood bath. Literally any time that happened, I was guaranteed at least 30 kills.

This change is a good thing. It speeds up the gameplay in a notoriously slow game compared to most shooters.

PS - If you think using the Carbine the whole time is boring... Why not switch it up? I use the AR, Suppressor, Light Rifle and Battle Rifle in my loadouts. My playstyle varies with each Loadout immensely.

2- Loadouts are fine and allow players to change up their playstyle. So you complain that you just use the Carbine for an entire match, then say that past Halo games, where the amount of playstyles didn't vary nearly as much, were better?

That's just nostalgia, plain and simple. Halo 2/3, either you used the BR or you got killed the majority of the time. In Halo 4 you can use 6-7 different starting weapons, 3 secondaries and 3 kinds of grenades, all with an abundance of Armor Abilities and Specializations in all that. Oh and the Primary weapons are all actually useful!

How you think using just the BR the entire match is somehow better than using a myriad of different weapons is beyond me.

3- The Energy Sword is not a joke. It's a single hit kill weapon that is appropriately balanced with the current game mechanics (Increased movement speed, sprint, AA's, etc.).

The Sniper Rifle is actually very, very powerful. It already fires quickly, so wanting to speed up the ROF would just imbalance it. It works great.

This just sounds like you're not very good with the new gameplay yet, which is fine. But it's not bad development. It's just you not being as skilled (Yet!).

4- The melee lunge was, and has always been broken in online gameplay. Halo 1 and Halo 4 got it right (Very, very little). Having a large lunge is just stupid and unskillful. No, someone shouldn't be able to jump 3 feet and automatically hit me like a homing missile.

5- The vehicles are nowhere near overpowered... I can't believe anyone could say that with a straight face.

You do realize you get to spawn with a Plasma Pistol now, right? That completely changes the way vehicles work. Plasma Pistol + Firing on a vehicle with a Primary Weapon = A whole lot of dead pilots/drivers.

Your Map complaints are just like the Aesthetic complaints... Growing pains. Mostly because all of your points come down to, "This sucks, and this sucks because it sucks! And this is sucky because it sucking sucks suck! SUCKS!!!".

It sounds like you really enjoyed Halo 2/3's gameplay, but that is not Halo 4. Because it isn't like Halo 2/3, however, does not make it objectively worse. It's just different.

And, here's the point most people seem to miss... A game will not always change in ways you like.

I used to be a HUGE Battlefield fan. Played over 500 hours total. Battlefield 3 is right around the corner, so I check out the Beta for it. And... I hated it. And at first, I was just like you. "Why change that! That's so stupid and clearly worse!", etc.

But, I realized how stupid and childish I was being. No, it's not worse. It's just different. They lost a single fan, but I'm sure plenty of others loved what they were doing. I wish them all the best, but it's just not for me.

Halo 4 is making big changes. You, nor I, will like all of them. But don't try to say all of these things are worse as a fact. You just don't like them, which is fine.

Throwing in the obvious CODization of Halo. Honestly its not to bad, i just miss being able to go to a map find a random weapon just lying there, and using it against my foe. I understand the loadout system and why they did it, but i just wish there was more variety of weapons on the maps while i play rather than peoples load outs. Give me a game type that has the standard loadout (ASSAULT RIFLE, PISTOL) and i will be happy as can be....well that and driveable forklifts...

ONE MORE THING! It would be nice to have a dogfight mode using the Spaceships in this game... would be really awesome actually. I mean hell Reach had that one single player level that had dogfights, give me some of that except in multiplayer (Add a CTF game mode in it too where you board the enemy ship and steal the flag like you could in battlefront 2!)

My main complaint is that there is still no custom control mapping after 6 halo fpses. I was fine without it until halo 4 when I realized that I could no longer use boxer because B was mapped to sprint instead of ability. Its not that bad because I simply switched back to normal, but as someone who has used left trigger to melee for years, I kind of want it back...

One thing I missed about Bungie Studios is the quality of the Halo games. Some of the small things in this list were in the game as far back as Halo 2.

343 Industries said they will use a ton of title updates. I sure hope they do, because I'm not impressed with Halo 4, specifically the Custom Games support.

Without all the gametypes, fun minigames cannot exist, and thus the lifespan of Halo 4 will be shorter.

I've actually mastered it in it's current implementation. It's really good for getting the drop on people, and bolting out from around corners. It's really only effective in Regicide, with close range weapons, especially the AR.

Regardless, it does need a buff.

Another forge/custom one. If you place a weapon in the old Halo 3, Reach etc way it wont actually spawn on the map, in game.

I messed around with it. Apparently, weapons you place down won't show up at all in slayer, but I got them to show up in CTF, and there's no option to turn on/off weapons on map besides messing with initial ordnance settings.

Edit: Apparently I was in slayer pro when I was testing. The weapons showed up in infinity slayer.

THERE ARE LOTS OF WALLS IN MAPS THAT DON'T CLIP. THOSE NEED TO BE MADE TOTALLY SOLID.

I beat the game solo legendary, but because of hurricane sandy my internet hasn't been too reliable so I beat it offline. I didn't get any commendations for beating it on legendary (I want the mark VI armor ) so I have to beat legendary again.

I agree with every single thing you said. If they could address all of these shortcomings and make them better eventually, hopefully, then the game would be near perfect in my honest opinion.

Only one thing you may be confused about though.

  • "You can only be on 4 teams(compared to 8 in previous games)."

    I can't remember a playlist that involved 8 different teams? I know for a fact that if you start a custom/forge game and press start and go to change teams, there are 8 teams you can switch onto.

Red, Blue, Gold, Green, Purple, Lime, Orange and Cyan.

Am I confused?

Possibly also not having a Easter egg skull hunt like in Halo 3. All skulls are already unlocked like in Halo: Reach. I don't know about anyone else, but I felt that searching for skulls in the campaign was pretty fun. It's not really a problem, just a minor let down.

I expect to get downvoted, but I don't see how this game is in anyway better then halo 3. I have been playing it and it is fun, but I can't help but feel I have payed for the same game 3 times now once with 3 then reach then 4. Most of the problems in this list didn't exist in 3. And I don't really see much added. All in all I'm feeling a little disappointed. Not that I won't keep playing like I said it is still fun.

Idk if anything has said this but there is no current location above the radar like in reach in multiplayer. 343 feels kinda lazy with their design imo. Also, why do they have to call it War Games? Only big one that stood out to me as over the top complaining was that you can't see your secondary weapon. They did this on purpose, they found it cluttered the HUD, and no one used it. And that's true, no one uses it. 99% I know what my secondary is. And somehow if I don't, I just press Y.

I agree that it is one of the weaker points on the list, but it mainly is an issue when watching someone else play, particularly in MLG streams. When playing the game we normally always know what our secondary is, but we won't know when watching someone else play until they switch to it.

Things they should add, (Correct me if there is a way to do it):

  • Change base player traits for specific teams, rather than everyone

  • Be able to make teams switch spawns at the start of a new round

Theater mode: in "clipped" gameplays the announcer can no longer be heard. Also in order to view a game in theater mode you must save it to your hard drive from temporary history rather than just being able to select the game from the history without saving it first.

Personal shortcoming (my opinion only): no longer getting unzoomed when shot drastically takes out a crucial competitive aspect of multiplayer, altho some may argue the other side.

Matchmaking: no longer able to see what playlist your friends are in, only way to tell is by going on the internet through waypoint.

-no weapons on map to pick up besides ordinance drops plus it seems to me that weapons disappear a lot faster now.

looking at these lists it seems most of these look to be stuff that will be fixed in later updates. the fact you can get the nonexistent teams in forge suggests that they are yet to be added.

split screen needs to lower the visual quality, most of the issues in split screen are caused by the xbox being an ancient relic that's being pushed to hard by recent games( halo is not the only game with this issue)

also put in the split screen issues, at many points in the game the AI view distance is way too short causing enemies to pop into existence at a dangerous range.

also you can't drive forklifts.

There is a glitch on Complex that allows a team to win easily on oddball. One well-timed jump can place you in between walls where no one can touch you. You hold the ball and sit for 150 seconds. YouTube it. It's fucking stupid and has happened to me 3 different times in 1 day.

In multiplayer you can actually see who is talking. Their name appears in the bottom right of the screen if I remember correctly. It's still much less convenient than previous games.

Here's a couple.

Custom Games:

  • Dropped weapons disappear very quickly, and there is no way to change how long the weapons will stay on the map before disappearing.

  • There is no invasion gamemode, so it is impossible to create a game mode using three different objectives together like you could in Reach. I thought this was especially neat considering the massive amount of combinations that could occur.

  • There's no option to turn off the indicators for CTF or Oddball that say where the objectives are, or who has possession of them. If you have a flag or a ball, you are always a target.

Anything I would have liked to mention has already been brought up, but I do have one Forge complaint: I created a custom arena just outside the main play area on [whatever map the Griffball court is found in]; in Player Mode, I could run around in it with no problems, but when I tested it as a Custom Game, I was insta-killed (not the 10-second time; just dead) no matter where I spawned. Why add areas that are accessible without problems in Forge but are off-limits when used in an actual game?

Speaking of Forge, I really miss Forgeworld from Reach: A huge map that gave plenty of room to build (especially an empty sky area to build a custom arena on a completely blank slate). I really hope they aren't saving a large Forge-friendly map for DLC...

You left out the fact that they added kill cams, grenade indicators, loadouts, killstreak rewards, armor abilities, and perks. The campaign was amazing but i really fucking hate the direction the multiplayer has gone. Also, the BR sounds extremely annoying after 5 seconds.

This one annoys the hell out of me (and I don't think I saw it):

If you have a pending Ordinance Drop, and you want to switch your grenades... you're screwed, because using the D-pad to swap grenades ALSO calls the Ordinance Drop. It's made wanting to save a drop but use different grenades impossible.

Also, why can't we pick difficulty for Spartan Ops? This weeks challenges revolve around Legendary but the max Spartan Ops does is Heroic. I really wish they kept Firefight instead. :(

You can set objectives to belong to a neutral team, but no gametypes support it.

This sounds like Forge and Custom Games were pretty much an afterthought. If they had the setting to make neutral teams but don't offer any games to support this, then that's just absolutely mind-boggling.

Great job and I hope there is some sort of patch in the future. I'd also like to add that there are so many fewer game options in matchmaking. There is no Big Team anything other than Infinity Slayer. I'd like to see Big Team capture the flag or Assault or something. No Lone Wolves gametype, no multiteam, no team doubles etc. There really need to be more playlists.

I'm paranoid to the point of where I think that 343 removed features because they are making two more games. When Bungie set out to make Reach, they set their goal at making the best Halo possible. When 343 set out to make Halo 4, they set their goal at making a trilogy.

It's either that, or the age of the 360 is becoming more problematic for the developers.

Halo 4 is awesome! It's just the little things that seem to pile up and make me cringe. Thankfully, most of these things can be fixed by a small patch/title update if 343i listens to the community.

I also hope community maps are added in the coming weeks. I don't like only having 5 maps to play on in each playlist.

While I understand why this sort of thing is in there, I'd like to be able to free roam some of the maps in forge without the kill boundary.

The artist put a lot of time into designing these maps and I want to see them in gory detail.

Bad enough that 343 had to take some bad advice and completely change Grifball, but what makes it worse is that you cannot go into customs and recreate Halo 3/Reach Grifball. Meaning, sprint is always on, bomb throws and rolls, no explosions when scoring, "Grif" does not have proper speed burst. At least let us re-create real Grifball and enjoy it in customs.

In custom games if you include a headshot kill bonus this doesn't include sniper headshots as they only count as a 'sniper kill' rather than a headshot.

Very frustrating when I have always created a 'No Scopes' game variant my friends and I have played since Halo 3, which rewards extra points for a headshot.

Biggest issue by far is the lack of power weapons on the maps. That is what Halo is centered around to me, the control of the weapons on the map. Ordinance drops ruin this entirely. There need to be more maps, hopefully they'll recycle some old maps because the new ones kind of suck. The new menu system SUCKS DICK. Why did they change it? It was sooooo perfect in Halo Reach. Also the playlists suck, there aren't near enough of them. A lot of these mistakes seem really strange, because all 343i had to do was carry over these options from Reach.

I love the game, but it needs to be fixed. I want halo, not another call of duty. Here's my list.

The BR needs to be fixed, I'm tired of being sprayed with one bullet and takes off damage of whole burst.

Grenade don't injure people if they jump?

Melee, all I got to say.

Vehicle splattering.

Camping spots on certain maps.

Power weapons drops/spawn times.

Thruster pack needs to be fixed on multi(to be longer/farther), and shortened on flood.

No button press respawn.

Like I said, love the game, but there are a bunch of little things that just make me lose my shit and think, "if I wanted a call of duty I would have waited for a couple days."

Also, in Forge, when I have trait zones set to "Unchanged", after I save the map, they come back as their defaults, overriding the gametype traits. (For example, if the gametype damage is set to 500%, and the trait zone is set to "Unchanged", it will make it 100%.) Also, in Forge, you can not dissable lighting and it must be recalculated each time you switch to Spartan.

In War Games you can't move and view the scoreboard at the same time.

Customization menu takes awhile to save, and sometimes saves even when you don't do anything on it.

Weapon lowering has not been added to online in this game(save for capturing the base in Dominion) and has been even more limited in offline.

The reason, it is stated by Inside Gaming (Link) "to avoid potential animation exploits like the BXR." and it is also stated that you have to "reload, jump, and crouch, and hold down on the d-pad" making transitions more difficult.

I am in disbelief that this could be the reason. How could a completely different developer fail to fix a problem like this that has been around since Halo 2? I think that this is just another branch of Microsoft's push to put down Machinima. (Source) first by eliminating advertising in their games, and now by making it more difficult to actually make it.

This thread has my full support. I really hope 343 adresses these issues before trying to sell us more maps packs. You may want to add the fact that there is no ranking system. High ranks get paired against low ranks there is nothing at stake like in ranked Halo 3 matches. It takes the purpous out of competitive play.

it is, and that's a very good thing. Used in small boosts, it's not game breaking like in reach with people flying all over. Short lateral movements are nice, and I now use the AA I despised in Reach.

Also I really am disappointed with the active camouflage -- Why are there blue dots around you instead of red? It's extremely ineffective and serves almost no purpose.

Don't forget the Storm Covenant is never explained in the campaign which is just stupid. The "Storm Covenant" is even mentioned. People with no knowledge outside of the games will think the Elites under the Arbiter are fighting the Chief because "A lot can happen in 4 years."

There is no death X mark or anything to mark for your teammates where you died, and since all the maps are very large it's hard to point out where you died.

Leveling the battle-pass is frustrating, completing a hard fought game only to slowly see increments of sometimes 100-200xp per challenge and nothing else. I really hope they implement XP for matches completed and matches won.

Now I'm old, "boomer", etc. But my thoughts.

I'm loving playing this game. At no point has XP or battle pass stuff even entered my mind. Im just having fun playing the game.

I figured I'd look at reddit to see the fun others are having. Nope. 500 posts about the battle pass system.

To me the cosmetic stuff is just an auxiliary feature. The fun of playing the game is why I play. I didn't play halo CE for 10k hours through the 2000s because I was trying to unlock a purple visor for my character. I played because I just wanted to play the game.

But all these posts seem to me like grinding the battle pass is the main focus. Its so weird to me. Like yea customization is awesome, but I don't get the focus on it.

I've barely played the game and I'm level 2 in the battle pass. I don't even know what the challenges are or what challenges I've completed. So to me its playing its role. In the background im chipping away at a purple visor I'll probably never use. Sweet.

I wish this battle pass stuff would have never even happened to video games and you just achieved things in the game to unlock stuff. Winning games in certain Playlist. Getting 100 sniper headshots. Beating the campaign solo legendary. Getting 50 sticks. Getting 50 ninja medals. Whatever it is. Its taken the focus off the game and onto some silly grind that doesn't really mean anything.

Ok old man rant over. Ill go back to enjoying the game. Its awesome.
