Deaconess Treating Highest Number of COVID-19 Patients Since Pandemic Began

As of Thursday, Aug. 26, Deaconess said it was officially treating its highest number of COVID-19 patients since the beginning of the pandemic.

This chart provided by Deaconess shows the current number of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 compared to the previous peak number of hospitalizations back in January.

According to Deaconess, 87% of the COVID-positive patients currently hospitalized are unvaccinated against the virus.

Deaconess says that its emergency departments, as well as other emergency departments throughout the region, are experiencing record volumes.

That's why the health system is also asking anyone seeking a COVID-19 test to NOT visit the ER in search of one.

On Friday and Saturday, anyone in the Evansville-Vanderburgh County area in need of a COVID-19 test can get one at the CK Newsome Center through a special clinic hosted by the state health department. Vaccines will be available at that clinic as well.
