To reduce targeted dislike attacks & their impact on creators (esp on smaller creators), you’ll no longer see a public dislike *count* on YouTube starting today (the dislike button is staying). This comes after lots of research, testing & consideration →

We *have* learned the hard way how it feels to get a lot of dislikes 😉 but no, this change is about protecting our creators by reducing targeted dislike attacks (esp for smaller channels). This vid shares background and top q’s →

Wow! Another horrible feature added from YouTube! You do realise the Dislike button is important? Your just doing it to not see the dislikes on Rewind 2018

If dislikes impact the search algorithm behind the scenes, won’t the attacks still prove effective?

With this update, we're aiming to disincentivize harassing behavior in the first place – we found the public dislike count motivates trolls, harassment, and dislike attacks, & our experiment results/data showed a reduction in dislike attacking behavior when it’s not visible.

How the hell does this help anyone? The creator is the one that it affects, and they can still see it. We already had an option to manually disable likes and dislikes, so all you've done is take away yet another feature.

Good q - a few things: - viewers can still dislike a video to improve & further personalize their recommended videos - creators can still see the number of dislikes for their videos in Studio (if they'd like to), and use as an audience signal

Big sigh, scams are not allowed on YouTube, so this isn't the experience we want you (or anyone!) to have. If possible, can you share video/channel URLs (also happy to DM and get the info privately as that's likely better – just let us know). We’ll report this for you.

Can you please add the option to opt in to displaying our dislike count? I'd prefer to publicly show my dislike count. Stop acting like this is being done for smaller creators, it's being done to protect big creators from criticism.

i take pride on my work having a low dislike count, because it means i did good. if it has a high count, it means i need to consider how i can improve. sure there are some toxic people, but it's the internet, and it should be MY decision to hide dislikes, not yours

Why not give creators the option to turn off public dislike counts? I'd rather keep mine thanks. Cut the bullshit about how you care about "smaller creators". If you did you wouldn't keep falsely taking down their videos. We all know who this is really for.

(1/2) Appreciate your feedback & thoughts on this – we did have an option for creators to hide likes/dislikes before today, but we’ve seen that when creators choose to turn off likes/dislikes, they can be bullied and harassed for their decision. Re: why we made this change...

This isn't getting rid of hate. It's hiding it from the public. the content creator can still see the dislike count. Is that REALLY solving anything?

Revert it back please... if a creator can't handle dislike , he should quit. we should be mentally strong to upload videos Publicaly. if a video is scam/ fraud how would we know.. if it has 10K likes... i will click tha fraud link.. bc i trusted with no. of likes

Totally see why some might think that – though, it’s not the case! This change is about protecting our creators by reducing targeted dislike attacks (esp. for smaller channels). Background and details in this video →
