An extra pic for Day 7 of #NationalMothWeek - also by J. Horstman - Obertheuria (Endromidae) larva. One of my favorite pics! Amazingly beautiful larva. #moth_week

Moth larva or tiny dragon? Either way it is super cool.

Six-spot Burnet (I think) moth larva, Zygaena filipendulae. Being surrounded by a swarm of mating burnet moths in a field full of blooming willow-herb as an 8 or 9 year old kick-started my love of natural history #ACaterpillarWeekend

“Normally, seeing a caterpillar doesn’t make you gasp, but this one was huge” – 4 inches and as thick as your thumb, says wildlife biologist Matt Whitbeck, who took this photo at Maryland’s Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. This caterpillar is an imperial moth larva.

Watering the fuchsias this morning before temps reach near triple digits and found this colorful friend, a #butterfly or #moth larva I’m sure. Anyone know which specie? Damned glad I got the kiddie pool set up. #BeatTheHeat

WHAT. I just found this #caterpillar in my backyard & I don’t even know what to say! It’s a Harris’s Three Spot moth larva (Harrisimemna trisignata). Those blobs dangling from its thorax hairs? The old head capsules from earlier molts!
