ordered the HK Alliance to remove the Pillar of Shame from campus. The Pillar is an artwork showing lots of faces being tortured, which commenorated those passed away in #TiananmenSquareMassacre in 1989. The university's mgnt board again swears loyalty to #CCP.

That’s a shame.
Can’t think of any valid reason to study in any universities in Hong Kong now…

Isn’t it illegal to remove it? Students Union voted for it to be there permanently.

Sadly, a dignified university with a long history cannot even retain a work of art that reflects history. At the same time, it is shameful that such a university has not defended the universal value of democracy and freedom and took the initiative to please totalitarianism.

I stepped out of the MTR at CUHK a few weeks ago to see if their Goddess of Democracy statue was still there (yes, but I suppose it's just a matter of time now).

More Chinese "freedom" and "respecting" Hong Kong's wishes, I guess.
It's very likely the idea of the university, on the suggestion of the government, to order the pillar of shame be removed from the campus.
Of course they don't need a Pillar of Shame, the university management itself is a Shame already.

Shame on the University of Hong Kong... The most important thing in Hong Kong is to be politically correct. Universal values are meaningless.

Would you be able to recommend a way to get in touch with the remaining members of the HK Alliance that could help authorise movement of the artwork to a safe location where the CCP would be unable to damage it? I fear all this scrutiny will lead to it being destroyed.
