The “comfort women” issue appears, on the surface, to be a bilateral problem between South Korea and Japan. In reality, it is deeper. The key player is increasingly not South Korea, but China, and the ultimate target is not Japan, but the United States, as the comfort women are co-opted by Beijing in its anti-American information war.
China has been waging this war since Beijing realized after the First Gulf War that it would likely be unable to the United States on the battlefield. As the document Unrestricted Warfare, published by two high-ranking Chinese military officials, makes clear, the Chinese have chosen to fight the US, and particularly the US-Japan alliance, using desinformatsiya rather than hardware and troops.
Chinese information warfare in the United States is a massive and multi-front campaign. In December 2017 the Washington Post alerted its readers to “the huge scope and scale of Chinese Communist Party influence operations inside the United States, which permeate American institutions of all kinds.” In May 2017, the New York Times reported that the Chinese Students and Scholars Association at the University of California-San Diego managed “within hours” to get the Dalai Lama uninvited as UCSD commencement speaker. The more than 150 Chinese students and scholars associations in the US, the Times added, are funded and influenced by Chinese Communist Party headquarters.
In January 2018, the Washington Post detailed that UT-Austin rejected funds from the China United States Exchange Foundation because the “Hong Kong-based foundation and its leader, Tung Chee-hwa, are closely linked to the branch of the Chinese Communist Party that manages influence operations abroad.”
But on-campus campaigns are just the tip of the iceberg. The comfort women issue represents arguably Beijing’s most aggressive information-war maneuver. It has been a source of serious friction between Seoul and Tokyo since the 1990s, and in the past three years, has threatened to upend the uneasy security relationship, triangulated through Washington, between South Korea and Japan. Rending relations between the three democracies is China’s premier policy goal in East Asia.
The South Korean government uses the comfort women issue mainly for domestic consumption – as a sure vote-getter or deflector of unwanted scrutiny. China’s ambitions are bigger. The CCP is much more interested in how this issue serves its global agenda; domestic politics runs a distant second. This is the difference and the reason that Beijing can operate on a much larger scale than Seoul on the comfort women front.
A three-front strategy
Globally, Beijing has so far moved through three main vectors: overseas Chinese networks; a largely compliant press; and the United Nations.
An example of the first is the comfort woman statue that mysteriously appeared in Manila in 2017. An investigation by the Sankei Shimbun revealed that the statue project was orchestrated by Overseas Chinese groups in the Philippines, including the Wai Ming Charitable Trust Foundation Company – long a front for politicizing the comfort women issue in mainland China.
Overseas Chinese groups have also pressed hard on the comfort women and Nanjing issues in the US and Canada: In San Francisco, Superior Court judges Julie Tang and Lillian Sing retired from the bench in order to co-found the Comfort Women Justice Coalition, which was ultimately successful in bringing a comfort woman statue to San Francisco. Chinese-American San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee was himself a vocal proponent of the comfort woman statue. In Canada, Chinese-Canadian legislator Jenny Kwan has been pushing for a “Nanking Memorial Day” under the auspices of Canada ALPHA, a propaganda outlet run in-country by Hong Kong-born doctor Joseph Yu Kai Wong. Dr. Wong was one of the first, in 1997, to promote Iris Chang’s book Rape of Nanjing, a project which was, in turn, funded and coordinated by Chinese-American Ignatius Ding and his pro-China group Global Alliance.
A sympathetic Western media, for its part, has largely accepted South Korean and Chinese historical claims and repeats – without adding critical context – what Beijing’s spokespersons say. For example, speaking on January 10, 2018, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang “scolded” Japan about the comfort women issue, standing with South Korean President Moon Jae-in in pressing Tokyo to make yet another apology.
At the United Nations, China has been working to register the comfort women with the UNESCO “Memory of the World” program. Also at the UN, Beijing has repeated the talking points of “sex slavery” and “systematic rape,” demanding that Japan offer a full apology and reparations. In fact, China has partnered with North Korea in the registration efforts. It is notable that several prominent persons connected with Chong Dae Hyup, the most vocal comfort woman-related NGO in South Korea, have been arrested as North Korean spies.
The comfort women issue allows China, a country which leads the world in forced abortions, gendercide (sex-selective abortions of girls in favor of giving birth to boys), and draconian restrictions on a woman’s rights to have children, to deflect from its own women’s rights record. In portraying Japan as uniquely perverted, China hopes to isolate its perennial enemy from the world community while assuming the mantle of champion of gender equality.
The more China can convince the international community to believe the worst about the Japanese, the easier it will be for China to have its way in Taiwan, Tibet, Xinjiang, Bhutan, Nepal, Vietnam, the Philippines, Mongolia, and beyond. The comfort women are unwitting ground troops in China’s push to whitewash its own programs against Tibetans, Uyghurs, Mongolians, Falun Gong practitioners, Chinese girls, and dissident Chinese citizens, topple the United States’ base network in East Asia, and retain its title as the regional hegemon.
Comfort women: a nuanced history
None of this is to say that a comfort woman system did not exist.
In the Japanese Empire, time-tested Korean practices of buying and selling women as concubines to members of the elite yangban ruling class served as models for the Japanese military for contracting women to work at military brothels in Manchuria, China, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific.
Korea was annexed by Japan in 1910 and was as much a part of the Japanese Empire then as Hawaii is part of the US today. Many women recruited from Korea were bought from their parents by Korean pimps or else were made vague promises by brokers—again, largely Korean—of employment prospects abroad. The Korean pimps and brokers simply repurposed the old yangban trafficking practice in order to deliver the Korean women to the “comfort stations” which the Japanese military used to combat sexually-transmitted diseases and prevent soldiers from revealing classified information to civilian spies posing as prostitutes in unlicensed brothels.
Many comfort women were professional prostitutes from Japan. Traditional Japanese pleasure quarters like Yoshiwara suffered from falling clientele as increasing numbers of Japanese young men were shipped to the front. Many prostitutes made the savvy business decision to go where the work was.
Some comfort women earned enough for their services (at rates set and enforced by the Japanese military authorities) to pay off the advance money given to their parents. Saving money was encouraged by the Japanese military, and accumulating large sums was hardly impracticable.
Now-deceased comfort woman Mun Ok-chu saved up a staggering 26,000 yen in three years (at a time when a sergeant in the Japanese army made between 23 and 30 yen per month). Mun made more money in 1943 – a lot more – than the Japanese lieutenant-general commanding all Imperial land forces in Burma.
More than history
Careful historians in South Korea, Japan, the United States, and elsewhere have repeated historical facts in an attempt to modulate the now-conventional rhetoric. But these historians have been mistaken in imagining that the comfort women issue as simply a historical question. It is not – it is another mode of Chinese disinformation.
But while comfort women propaganda is targeted at the US, a collateral benefit for Beijing lies in seeking revenge against Japan.
For example, in a recent policy speech, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed three new “State Memorial Days”: July 7, in commemoration of the Marco Polo Bridge Incident; September 3, in commemoration of the Japanese surrender to Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist forces; and December 13, in commemoration of the Japanese advance into Nanking. In other words, China is invoking history in its direct confrontation with Japan.
China is, therefore, co-opting comfort women into the grand project of the CCP to re-assert its authority and to retake East Asia and beyond. What appears to be an issue between South Korea and Japan over history is actually a live-fire battle to draw East Asian states into satellite positions around the “Middle Kingdom” once again.

Yap C Seng
At this point it is clear that you are not arguing from ignorance, you are simply lying outright, in hopes that the less well informed will believe you, and to fight off the potential paradigm shift as your concious is exposed to the truth and must retreat to hold your old worldview, and maintain the CCP debunked talking points.
1. Your Claim: You claim "The US position on "One China" is defacto a support for the 9 dash line.
1. Facts: Not true.
The US rejected China’s claim in a 26 Page rebuttal paper issued on December 12th after China sent its 9 dash line map to the United Nations claiming 2 million square killometers, much of which violates the soverignty of Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Phillipines, in addition to internaitonal waters protected by UNCLOS. The borders were nothing like the 9 dash line claimed by Taiwan in 1947. Again, you promote internal propoganda and argue devoid of facts.
2. Your Claim: By inference that the MCP was not a group that terrorized the Malaysian population and was controlled and mostly staffed by the Mainland Chinese communists.
2. Facts: The MCP was a mainland inspired and led organization that was interested in organizing the ethnic Han Chinese in Malaysia and siezing power, the MPAJA, was a tactical move to gain weapons and a breathing space from the British.
In fact the British formed a seperate unit so they did NOT have to continue dealing with the MPAJA (front for the MCP) because as the SoE records make clear "The MPAJA was more effective at terrorizing the local villagers than the Jap (sp) army throughout the war." And as I mentioned before, Chin Peng’s own diary never mentioned fighting Japanese. They husbanded weapons and money to fight after the war was over.
For the others in this group that are interested Mohd Rizal Yaakop of
University Kebangsaan Malaysia has excellent research on the MCP, including more elaboration of the above. Yap Seng and his fascist idiology will think that Mohd Rizal Yaakop (A Malaysian professor in a Malaysian University from a very distinguished and long line of Malaysian scholars) is an "Anglo" as he is want to do in his Chinese Han supremicist bent, but as is obvious to non fascists, this is a Malaysian view. The UK view is even more damning against the MCP and MPAJA during and after the war.
Again, these side issues are not relevent to the topic at hand (Chinese weaponization of the Comfort Women) EXCEPT to demonstrate to all reading that the PR shills for the CCP side like Wong, Sing, and Chang, base their arguments off of a lack of facts and emotional appeal talking points, that anyone wtih a bit of knowledge in history will easily see through, as Jason Morgan did in his article.
Bottom line is that the article is spot on, so we see the neo fascist Han lobby take to the keyboards in an amatuerish attempt to distract and distory the truth.
Ming Wang Japan’s ‘only crime’? Then we need to include the Koreans and Taiwanese who fought along with the Japanese and also went to comfort stations, don’t we? If you really believe the Chinese people were happy to have their parents exterminated by Mao, I don’t think there’s a cure for ya…
I see more Chinese names here who resort to racial slurs… they seem to have taken over the comfort women propaganda narrative. Quite fitting as the fat boy from the North went to see his big boss in PRC for instructions.
Bee Foo You should do a google search "Taiwan comfort women protested" and ask yourself why they continued to protect every year if Japan is doing what you said they did.
Vic Mason Stay on the topic about "Comfort women". What kind of logic is this? Japan didn’t commit any crime because the forced soliders visited forced comfort women.
Al Johnson I trusted Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comfort_women more than your opinion. "Young women were abducted from their homes in countries under Imperial Japanese rule."
Al Johnson If it’s such high paid contract job, how come the comfort women were all from the occupied countries? Wouldn’t you expect a lot more from Japan?
Al Johnson It’s good of you to bring this discussion back to the topic at hand, which is THE COMFORT WOMEN SCAM. Some posters managed to derail the conversation with emotional and repetitive patriot rhetoric that I’ve been hearing since the 1990s. Nothing new. Pretty old hat, really. I once again offer my congratulations to Dr. Morgan for quite a perceptive article that cuts through layers of BS!
Ming Wang (1) If you did unbiased research on the issue you would learn that the majority of the comfort women were in fact Japanese. The next largest number were Korean women, and finally Taiwanese women. Also, some local brothels later signed up to participate in places like the Philippines and Burma (2) The prostitutes worked directly for brothel owners who did their own hiring. ALL the brothels and their prostitutes made good money. (3) It makes perfect sense that Japan first invited brothels from Japan proper and Japan’s territories. to follow the army from garrison to garrison and only later allowed local brothels to participate. (4) Taiwan was Japanese territory since 1895. The Korean peninsula did not become part of Japan due to invasion. The Korean peninsula was ANNEXED in 1910 BY REQiUEST by an influential group of Koreans who believed the only way for Korea to modernize and get out from under their feudal rulers was to petition Japan to annex Korea. Not all Japanese wanted that responsibility and cost. A lot of Japanese taxpayer money went into modernizing Korea, including the building of 5000 schools, infrastructure, sanitation, factories, etc. (5) I do not trust Wikipedia as a reliable source when it comes to political issues like the comfort women because any user of Wikipedia can "contribute" their personal viewpoint based on their own biases. Wikipedia doesn’t check people’ credentials. Wikipedia is not a reliable source except when it comes to things like listing all the elements on the periodic chart! 🙂 (6) The fact that some Taiwanese women protest is not at all proof that the Japanese army kidnapped and coerced them into the brothels. Protests are a dime a dozen, I’ve been to at least 50! The Taiwanese comfort women already accepted Japan’s apology and compassion money health and welfare support back in the 1990s, but certain leftist forces in Taiwan want to bring back the issue and are behind the protests. It is not difficult to get people to gather and protest (I have helped organize protests myself). It is quite easy for political opportunists to rally the masses around an issue that promises possible money or 15 minutes of fame or political capital. Former Korean comfort women protest regularly, some against their will. But the kidnap narrative IS A SCAM! Chong Dae Hyup controls and coaches the women to say they were abducted by the Japanese army. Funny thing. Originally (in the early 1990s some of those same ladies said they worked in a brothel (comfort station) for the good money or to pay back a personal loan or a loan to their parents. That was befoe Chong Dae Hyup coached them on what to say to improve chances of winning a lawsuit against Japan. I don’t know if you know much about mass organizing, but sometimes protest are legit, and sometimes they are staged as opportunist ploy.
Bee Foo
My, my perhaps you have bad eye sight as well as being plain stupid. When did I ever ask people to curb themselves from expressing their opinion ?
All I did was either counter their arguments or point out their deficiency.
Like in my first answer to your post, all your errors. In my post rebuttal to Gung Ho Al, his boorishness. It is YOU who imply that I am asking people not to criticize.
For your further enlightenment and because of your bad eyesight/memory Dr. Morgan himself confessed that comfort women did exist. His excuse is that they were prostitute.
but for such an ‘enlightened’ person it is strange that in his world prostitues are NOT entitled to human rights. In his own words money is paid to the parents ie ‘sold by the parents’. Now what parents willingly sell their chidren ?.And to Japanese army where they get raped by hundreds at a time ? And he claimes one Mun Ok-chu saved lots of money. Why only one saved so much ? Since there are so many comfort women , servicing hundreds of ‘clients’, and no where to spend their money ?
Yes Chinese and Koreans are emotional about this issue. Because it is about mothers and daughters. Because it is about a atrocity which the Japanese refused to be accountable for.
And we will never forget about this like the Jews will never forget about the Holocaust.
Al Johnson
Your evasiveness does not hide your poor knowledge of history. CIA tricks are becoming less and less effective due to the increasing poor quality personnel.
It’s really stupid to cordon Japanese atrocities when examples of their crimes against Allied POWs is so well documented.
There was little documentation or pictures about comfort women because these were events happening in Japanese armed forces ; so were destroyed by Japanese military themselves.
Koreans and Chinese are especially emotional about this because we suffered this atrocity. It is like asking the Jews to justify their emotion about Holocaust.
And the white man who ridiculed or belittled this will be marked and not forgiven.
Americans have fought many wars over past 60 years but still not learn when not to touch on emotional issues.
Yap C Seng You are the one who is blind and also thick as a brick — on purpose. Of course the comfort women existed. No one said they didn’t and you know it. The point is they were just prostitutes working in private brothels, not kidnapped by the IJA. You are not interested in serious discussion. You are just trolling. I have wasted my time. And in answer to your question. Here for the nth time is your original post: "This self glorified American ‘Hero’ wants to single handedly fight the Chinese. He does not even know that 20% of his Thai freinds are ethnically Chinese. " Okay peace out.
Bee Foo
In your own words "THE COMFORT WOMEN SCAM.". My who is the troll.
Never mind, even Einstein cannot overcome stupidity.
If they were prostitutes, where were the pimps to rebuttal them ? And why would Korean authorities support them ?
The worst type of prostitutes are those who prostitutes their mind.
Ming Wang All your inflromations are from Wiki. Have you see any documets in English, Chinaese , Korean or Japanese? Actually all declossfied information from Japan about the comfort women ( orprotustion house for miritary) has been translated in English. I know you dont want to see anything. if you are arguing sake of arguing it is ok. Just enjoying victiminsosng and being Marxist or Ameican democrat. like Nacy Polezi. ww
However , if you are talking about really historical truth, you need to visit the IWG and the IS National arvhive. It is political battle between China with North Korea and Japan. Please dont igonore that it is very importan factor to undersatnd entire picture.

Yes, he seems to work in Universtites in Japan. He got more inflrmation from Japam. And I beleive he is a pro-Japan. Nothing is woring.
If you dont agree to have supporter who are get paid by any organization, I want to look at big Chinese and Korean lobbies in the US. They are well connected mainly Democrats Pary which can influece MSM. Do you really think that people in the US love to talk about ww2 in Asia without any political and bussiness agenda? Dont be so naive.
Ming Wang
Your own post betrays your lack of depth and knowledge on this issue. You said " I trusted Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comfort_women more than your opinion. "
1st: As everyone knows Wikipedia is NOT a valid research site, it is a "mob edited" infoblog.
In fact, in the ultimate irony, Wikipedia even says it is not a credible source, yet you trust their opinion….NOT to be a credible source. So you self admit to posting informtion from sources that are not credible.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_is_not_a_reliable_source
And "my opinions" are based on credible sources. In fact the ONLY sources to have interviewed the 46 Korean Comfort Women who self identified in the late 80s early 90s for the lawsuit. Professor Ahn Byong Jik of Seoul University, as well as the other professor who was able to research the womens claims in the 2000s through 2010 and found the same; Professor Yuha Park of Sejong University.
In addition to these there are the actual source documents from the MULTIPLE investigations of the Comfort Women by the US, Dutch, and Britain during the war…when we were mortal enemies of the Japanese and had every motivation to find them guilty of everything. Not to mention the post war trials which included the KMT Chinese research.
ALL of these formed my "opinion" vs. your source which self admits it is not credible.
Thank you for proving my point. CCP Shills work on emotions, while the rest of us work on facts.
Yap C Seng
Again, you are arguing from ignorance and attempting an emotional appeal by trying to link two dissimilar things.
First, as Israeli Ambassador Eli Cohen noted "There is nothing in any way, in Asia, that the Japanese did that is like the Holocaust." So stop trying your form of Holocaust denial by trying to link it with contract prostitution. It is disguisting to attempt to do so. I recommend you go back and study what the Holocaust was, so you can see how terrible that analogy is.
The only event in Asia in the 20th Century that is analogous with the Holocaust would be the CCP euphamistically named "Great Leap Forward/Cultural Revolution and Ethnic Genocide against non Han minorities in China to include the Falun Darfa" and Pol Pot in Cambodia.
So if emotion in China was tied to events parallel to the Holocaust, then it would be against the CCP. Yet the CCP after 1989 worked overtime to try and divert the people’s knowledge away from the criminal actions by the state, and that is why they focus so heavily on the "other" i.e. Japan.
Again, thank you for proving my points.
Bee Foo Enough of your opinion. Show me any creditable information not from Japan and not personal opinion to prove your point. I already pointed out the Wikipedia link, which stated that most comfort women were from Korea and China. Simplify discrediting Wikipedia is not enough. I have a feeling that your unbiased research were solely based on Japan’s propaganda.
Speaking of the comfort women situation in Taiwan. Japn has longed denied it and by the time Japan offered the money, they were less than 50 left and they were at their 80’s. Taiwanese comfort women rejected Japan’s money because they would never accept that they were volunteered. If what you said were true, then there was no reason for them to turned down US $100k each and protected till their death. This information is available from Taiwanese news, which I already pointed out.
Ming Wang The Taiwanese comfort women were closer to their 70s when they received apology and compassion funds. And wasn’t their idea to reject Japan’s money. The mass organization that handled them ordered them to reject the support because they wanted the ladies to focus on a class action suit. (Japan told them they could take part in a lawsuit AND accept the money. )
All of theTaiwanese ladies managed to accept the money by doing an end run around the organization that served as their "handlers". Turns out that a Taiwanese lawyer agreed to help funnel Japan’s funds to them under the table! So, if they are now claiming they received no money from Japan, that is simply not true. It is also NOT true that Japan was waiting for the ladies to die off before given them thanks and compassion money. Total BS! The comfort women only started coming forward in the early 1990’s and first Japan needed to craft an official state apology (Kono statement) and then locate the former comfort women from a number of countries, not just Taiwan.
The comfort women had been hired by private brothel owners with businesses in Japan, and the then-territories of Korea and Taiwan! Those brothels contracted with the IJA to be allowed to travel with them. But since some of the former comfort women claimed (in the 1990s that they had been mistreated while working in their brothel the Japanese felt moved to apologize for any hardships the ladies claimed they had suffered (primarily as a result of the owner’s mistreatment, not the soldier’s — though there were a few documented instances — one in which the comfort woman killed an unruly soldier in self-defense and she was exonerated by the IJA court ). If anything the brothel owners should have been the ones to apologize for mistreating their sex workers, but its nearly impossible to find and hold such a person accountable after 45 to 50 years!
Ming Wang, this comments section contains tons of information and references to books and documents about the comfort women and actually most are not by the Japanese. Many references are by Korean scholars or actual comfort women or brothel owners, or American translations of captured IJA documents. There are also British and Dutch documents. If you are serious about studying this issue, I leave it to you to peruse the comments and pick out documents that interest you. Take care and good night. I’m signing off from this blog.
Al Johnson
The Honoursble Israeli Ambassador has his own opinion but he is not Chinese nor Korean, hence cannot understand Asian emotions about, nor is witness to Japanese atrocities. Korean suffered >50 years of brutal colonisation under Japanese while China suffered invasion since 1930s.
Only you are capable of spewing nonsense like ""Great Leap Forward/Cultural Revolution and Ethnic Genocide against non Han minorities in China to include the Falun Darfa" and Pol Pot in Cambodia." Such ignorance !
China imposed the Firewall to stop nonsense like what you having regurgitating. It is a waste of valuable time to read views like yours. Chinese citizens can criticize, protest, go out of China and even migrate if they want. We just need to teach them to be aware of twisted people like you.
It is white man like you who are deniers because it suit you to revise historical events to enable your continuing oppression of people around the world.
You are the warmonger who set brother against brother, sowing death and destruction. The Vietnamese had defeated you, the Iraqi cursed you, the Filipino woken up.
Better go home and learn something AND grow up.
Ming Wang
You state you trust Wikipedia and cited it twice here and once elsewhere as a "credible source" that you "trusted".
Wikipedia is NOT a credible source, and even Wikipedia does not trust Wikipedia as it is a mob sourced info-blog.
So you ignore the actual evidence and prefer a source that self admits it is not reliable.
That sums up the CCP strategy on the Comfort Women topic entirely.
The facts still stand. NO evidence from the source documentation nor the SOUTH KOREAN professors of concious that have actually researched the issue and were able to interview the Comfort Women themselves that they were kidnapped sex slaves.
Again, please try facts and not debunked talking points (and Wikipedia).
Yap C Seng
By your logic then you can not understand nor comment on the Holocaust, as that was a Jewish experience. Your own rules, yet you don’t live by them.
You still have not provided any facts to counter any of Jason Morgan’s points in the article, and attempted to side track the issue, but were caught in an ever spiralling web of debunked CCP talking points. As is obvious from your response, the only denier of history is you on this thread.
Chinese people are NOT allowed to criticize, question, or learn the real history. It goes to such extremes in China that you can not even say "June 4th" out loud in public. That’s the date of the Teienamen massacre.
The Firewall in China, like the Wall in Berlin, was designed to control their own population, not protect them.
But back to the topic at hand. Now that we have exposed you as a PR shill for the CCP who blindly supports everything (and not a non biased concerned citizen who just wants justice for the Korean Comfort Women), you still have not produced any evidence to support your claims.
1. You have provided no rebuttal for the work of Dr. Ahn Byong Jik of Seoul University, the only academic to interview all the Korean Comfort Women who came forward from 1990-1994 (the largest data group).
2. You have provided no rebuttal for the work of Dr. Yuha Park of Sejong University, the only academic allowed access to the Comfort Women without their "handlers" at Chon Dae Hyop or House of Sharing. (most recent data group to include the former PRC women).
3. You have provided no rebuttal for the US investigations during wartime, including the capture and interrogation of Korean Comfort Women themselves (your assertion that there is not evidence because the Japanese burned it all falls apart very easily if you knew history, and the fact that we indeed not only captured many documents, we had spies monitoring CW houses, PoWs that were slaves to the Comfort Women in Rabaul, and captured Comfort Women and interrogated them hoping to find war crimes or something of propoganda value.)
4. You have provided no rebuttal for the lack of prosecution by the Chinese themselves during either the Nanjing Trials or the IMTFE.
5. You have provided no rebuttal for the lack of protest, lodgement of complaint, or other action by the South Koreans during the post war period with either the Americans or Soviet forces on this issue.
6. You have provided no rebuttal for the inconsistant stories, or the facts of the evidencce for the Comfort Women themselves that indicates they were contract prostitutes.
IN short, the only thing you have done is expose (a) your complete lack of knowledge on this issue (b) how true the article actually is and how the CCP shills are invested heavily in the Comfort Women as sex slave narrative (c) How CCP shills are not concerned with justice, only with propoganda, and eventually directing all of this against the US.
Just like the article states. Again, thank you (I mean that sincerely) for proving Dr. Morgan’s point.
Al Johnson
What’s the point of providing evidence to some one who is so ignorant of history or is so confused about what he is discussing ?
How is one both a fascist and communist ?
How is both Dr. Ahn Byong Jik of Seoul University and Dr. Yuha Park of Sejong University ‘the only academic to interview ‘ the Korean comfort women ?
When talking to a obviously irrational person, no choice but to use simple words without anything complicated
I am not even going to say anything. Just anyone interest , please look at this person’s post and they can see for themselves
SEE page 499 INTERNATIONAL MILITARY TRIBUNAL FOR THE FAR EAST Judgment of 4 November 1948 . This is the TOYKO war trials
"They recruited women labor on the pretext of establishing factories. They forced the women thus recruited into prostitution with Japanese troops."
These are actual words from the trial. And if you want the link
http://www.alpha-canada.org/…/IMTFE-Judgement-4Nov1948.pdf
Yap C Seng
You attempt to recontextualize, as Alpha (a puppet organization of Global Alliance) did the Kweilin allegations that were put into the IMTFE. Note these were not part of the Bill of particulars, nor were they judgements passed down, but part of the "fill" of the IMTFE.
If you track the section Part B, PARAGRAPH VIII where the paragraph you put in is placed, these are not judgements, nor in the Bill of Particulars (The charges against defendents) but as the opening paragraph states, simply included to try and demonstrate a scale.
The document that went into the paragraph in this section regarding Kweilin is IPS Doc. No. 2220, Exhibit No. 353. It is what is known as an unsubstantiated document, or in common terms, an allegation letter that was never proven.
It was signed by Wei Ming Shieh, President of the Kweilin Chinese Patriotic Association on 26 May 1946, and had many other allgations within it.
Note out of the hundreds of thousands of documents sorted for the IMTFE, and thousands included, only this paragraph deals with forced prostitution (BUT NOT COMFORT WOMEN). The source document is also specific to a name, and NOT the Japanese Army. The allegation by Wei Ming Shieh is against a Captain Chotano (sp) and no last name. In addition they named his secretary Ms. Suzuki *(again no last name or details).
Kweilin was invaded by the Japanese army as part of the drive to attack US air bases in China in 1944-1945. The Japanese Army attacked it on 11th November 1944, and succeeded in capturing it on 24 November 1944. What was one of the largest US air bases in China (We relied on Chinese soldiers to guard the 14th Air Force planes and pilots) was now in Japanese hands. However, the Japanese were too weak in the theater to hold everywhere and they evacuated the town in May 1945. So the Japanese were only there six months. And only the president of the Patriotic association in town made a letter as the only evidence that one Japanese Captain had tricked women and forced them into prostitues…..The subsiquent investigation turned up no leads. Although the US Army OWI report does say that Mr. Wei’s allegation the Japanese set up the gambling houses at the gate of the city was bogus, as it turns out they were Chinese from a rival group. Mr. Wei is not the best witness it seems.
So again, you are arguing from ignorance and do not understand standards of evidence.
Further, you not only put up Wikipedia links, but this time put a linik to ALPHA, which is an offshoot of Global Alliance headed by the infamous Ignatius Deng, a pro CCP organization active in California beginning after the Tienamen massacre created a need to distract the public from China’s own criminality.
Now, for those actually intersted in reading the facts about the Comfort Women, there are many documents to view.
Let’s look at some of the documents that were looked at by the IMTFE, and determined that the Comfort Women were actually contract prostutes.
**(Note Yap Seng and the ALPHA Fascists try to present Mr. Wei’s accusation as a Comfort Women but it was clear it was both just an allegation, AND was NOT a Comfort Women system even had it have been proven).
I will post these individually below so you can see the clear weight of evidence debunkes Yap’s flimsy attempt.
1. U.S. MILITARY COMMISSION ORDER NO. 11 (Undated), U.S. Pacific Command and U.S. Pacific Fleet.
U.S. Military Commission Order No. 11, is the ONLY war crimes record in the punishment of involuntary prostitution by the Japanese by in the PTO.
The individual charged was NOT in the Japanese military and NOT EVEN a civilian employee of the military or government. He was a Japanese civilian living in Guam. Among other charges, he was found guilty of using duress on two local civilian females on Guam in Feb 42 to engage in prostitution. .
The women were pressured but not physically forced or abducted. He was sentenced to hang for other charges, later reduced to a prison sentence. There are no U.S. military records of any Japanese military personnel being involved in forced recruitment of women for prostitution in Guam or any other area. This case is mentioned to prove that the Allied Forces at the end of WWII did consider involuntary prostitution as a war crime and punishable.
I am presenting this to disprove people like Yap and other neo fascists who try to falsely claim the US didn’t investigate or prosecute kidnapping and rape of women.
The next one is the PoW Report No 49, Dated October 1944 and is important because the OWI (Under the OSS) in Burma was responsible for finding out ANY inforamtion that could be used for both war crimes and propoganda. They seperated the Korean Comfort Women captured and interrogated them for a month. The results are very clear, especially as the US was looking for ANYTHING to use against the Japaneese at that time.
“PREFACE:
“This report is based on the information obtained from the interrogation of twenty Korean ‘comfort girls’ and two Japanese civilians captured around the tenth of August, 1944, in the mopping up operations after the fall of Myitkyina in Burma.
“The report shows how the Japanese recruited these Korean ‘comfort girls’, the conditions under which they lived and worked, their relations with and reaction to the Japanese soldier, and their understanding of the military situation.
“A ‘comfort women’ is nothing more than a prostitute or professional camp follower attached to the Japanese Army for the benefits of the soldiers. The word ‘comfort girl’ is peculiar to the Japanese. Other reports show the ‘comfort girls’ have been found wherever it was necessary for the Japanese Army to fight. This report however deals only with the Korean ‘comfort girls recruited by the Japanese and attached to their Army in Burma. The Japanese are reported to have shipped some 703 of these girls to Burma in 1942.”
“RECRUITING:
“Early in May of 1942 the Japanese agents arrived in Korea for purpose of enlisting Korean girls for ‘comfort service’ in newly conquered Japanese territories in Southeast Asia. The nature of this ‘service’ was not specified but it was assumed to be work connected with visiting the wounded in hospitals, rolling bandages, and generally making the soldiers happy. The inducement used by these agents was plenty of money, an opportunity to pay off the family debts, easy work, and the prospects of a new life in a new land – Singapore. On the basis of the false presentations many girls enlisted for overseas duty and were rewarded with an advance of a few hundred yens.
“The majority of the girls were ignorant and uneducated, although a few had been connected with the ‘oldest profession on earth’ before. The contract they signed bound them to Army regulations and to work for ‘house masters’ for a period of from six months to a year depending on the family debt for which they were advanced money.
“Approximately 800 of thee girls were recruited in this manner and they landed with the Japanese ‘house masters’ at Rangoon around August 20th, 1942. They came in groups of eight to twenty-two. From here they were distributed to various parts of Burma, usually to a fair sized town near Japanese Army camps….”
“PERSONALITY:
“The interrogation shows the average Korean ‘comfort girl’ to be about twenty five years old, uneducated, childish, whimsical, and selfish. She is not pretty either by Japanese or Caucasian standards….”
“LIVING AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
“In Myitkyina, the girls were usually quartered in a large two-story house (usually a school building) with a separate room for each girl. There each girl lived, slept, and transacted business. In Myitkyina their food was prepared by and a purchased from their ‘house master’ as they received no regular ration from the Japanese Army. They lived in near-luxury in Burma in comparison with other places. This was especially true of their second year in Burma. They lived well because their food and material was not heavily rationed and they had plenty of money with which to purchase desired articles. They were able to buy cloth, shoes, cigarettes, and cosmetics to supplement the many gifts given them by soldiers who had received ‘comfort bags’ from home.
“While in Burma they amused themselves by participating in sports events with both officers and men; and attended picnics, entertainments, and social dinners. They had a phonograph; and in the town they were allowed to go shopping.”
“The average Japanese soldier is embarrassed about being seen in a ‘comfort house’ according to one of the girls who said, ‘When the place is packed he is apt to be ashamed if he has to wait in line for his turn.’ However there were numerous instances of proposals of marriage and in certain cases marriages actually took place.
“All the girls agree that the worst officers and men who came to see them were those who were drunk and leaving for the front the following day. But all likewise agreed that even though very drunk the Japanese soldier never discussed military matters of secrets with them….
“The soldiers would often express how much they enjoyed receiving magazines, letters and newspapers from home. They also mentioned the receipt of ‘comfort bags’ filled with canned goods, magazines, soap, handkerchiefs, toothbrush, miniature doll, lipstick, and wooden clogs. The lipstick and clogs were definitely feminine and girls couldn’t understand why the people at home were sending such articles. They speculated that the sender could only have had themselves or the ‘native girls’ in mind.”
“REACTION TO THE MILITARY SITUATION:”
This section concerns the scant information the girls had of the military situation.
“It was the consensus among the girls that Allied bombings were intense and frightening and because of them they spent most of their last days in foxholes. One or two even carried on work there. The comfort houses were bombed and several of the girls were wounded and killed.”
The final three sections of the report are “RETREAT AND CAPTURE,” “PROPAGANDA,” and “REQUESTS.” An Appendix provides the names, ages, and addresses of the twenty women and the two operator
– End of Report 49 –
This next one is a report on the CW captured in the Phillipines, and demonstrates that despite the situation militarily being desperate (The Japanese were getting slaughtered by our men and had to retreat to the hills with no communication, little food, and no medicine) they still didn’t kill the Comfort Women, which would have been very easy. There is NO evidence of Killing of the CW by the military. This is a good example of the effort to escort the women out despite hardships (Compare also to the Burmese retreat where the General evacuated the Comfort Women ahead of his own military wounded!).
3. SUMMARY OF 163d LANGUAGE DETACHMENT REPORT NO. 0223.
a. The 163d Language Detachment was attached to Headquarters I Corps, U.S. Army, in the Philippines. Report No. 163LD-1 0223 is titled, “Combined Enemy Preliminary Report,” and dated 21 May 1945. Classified Confidential, declassified 6/6/56.
b. This is an Interrogation Report of five comfort women captured by U.S. Forces in Luzon, Philippines in May, 1945. Their ages are: 19, 22, 24, 28 and 28. Two pairs are sisters. The 24 year old is from Formosa (Taiwan). The other four are Korean.
c. Portions of interest are quoted in italics. Parts of special interest are highlighted in bold letters.
– “Nationality : Korean.
Status : Prostitutes in employ of Jap Army.
Place of Capture: Vic of Dingalan Bay, Tayabas Prov, Luzon.
Date of Capture: 19 May 45”
– “The families of all the women were extremely poor and in order to save their families the expense of caring for them, they were sold to a Geisha House in Korea. They were sent to Taichu City, Formosa (present Taichung, Taiwan) and placed in the employ of the Army. The returned to Korea and on 29 Apr 44 left with 62 other women of both Jap and Korean nationality for the Philippines. They were still in the employ of the Jap Army. Upon arrival in the Philippines they were split up into small groups and sent to various army camps. 10 women, including subject EAs (enemy aliens), were sent to Higuchi L of C unit near Clark Field where they stayed at a Geisha House run by Mr. Taniguchi. From here they were sent to Sector Hq, Clark Field. Sometime in October 1944 they were sent to South San Fernando and joined Nakamura L of C Unit. 10 Jan 45, they withdrew from South San Fernando and enroute (sic) met up with Col Suzuki and his force. Col Suzuki told them that if they were captured they would be a disgrace to Japan (the Japanese military considered being taken POW as a disgrace), therefore they had better tag along with him. They went to Ipo. During the march Army personnel would go on ahead leaving two or three soldiers with the women. One woman died enroute (sic) and two others were left in Ipo because of illness. Late Jan 43, left Ipo and arrived Iloilo sometime in Apr 45. They saw many soldiers fall out and die from starvation enroute (sic). About two weeks ago Col Suzuki took approx 300 able-bodied men and proceeded towards Umiray. They thought men were armed with rifles. Men headed up towards the mountains and not along the coast. Two of the women went with the group but the five EA decided to go off and fend for themselves. They followed the coastline northward. 18 May 44 they saw an LCM off the coast firing up into the hills above them. They waded out into the water and waved their arms and shouted. The crew of the LCM picked them up and took them to Dingalong Bay.”
This next one is a Navy document. It clearly shows the question about recruitment being asked. It was very clear.
"4. EXTRACT FROM REPORT, “MILITARY INTELLIGENCE SERVICE, CAPTURED PERSONNEL & MATERIAL BRANCH, DATED 24 APRIL 1945. DATE OF INTERROGATION 11 APRIL, 1945,” OF THREE KOREAN CIVILIAN POWS.
a. This interrogation was a “Composite Report on Three Korean Navy Civilians List No. 78, dated 25 March 1945, Re “Special Questions on Koreans.” The information sought was Korean attitudes about Japan.
b. The questions asked about comfort women were: “Do Koreans generally know about the recruitment of Korean girls by the Japanese Army to serve as prostitutes? What is the attitude of the average Korean toward this program? Does the P/W know of ant disturbance or friction which has grown out of this program?” Their response is provided on page 3, Item 18:
“All Korean prostitutes that PoW have seen in the Pacific were volunteers or had been sold by their parents into prostitution. This is proper in the Korean way of thinking but direct conscription of women by the Japanese would be an outrage that the old and young folks alike would not tolerate. Men would rise up in a rage, killing Japanese no matter what consequence they might suffer.”
This one is another Naval document. It again addresses the false claims made by many history deniers such as Yap Seng, Alpha, Global Alliance, etc.
"5. OTHER INTERROGATION REPORTS.
a. ATIS Interrogation Report No. 60, dated 17 Apr 43.
(1) Subject is Japanese soldier rescued from the sea off New Guinea coast by US Navy Patrol Boat.
(2) Subject stated:
“There were approximately 20 brothels in RABAUL, KOKOPO area and the remainder were in the town. Inmates were all Japanese women”
(3). Subject made an interesting comment about attitude:
“PW did not believe ant-British feeling existed in Japan. In
fact, foreigners in Japan had the sympathy of the Japanese because they could not return to their own countries
“He did not believe that natives of occupied territories
should be treated as equals to the Japanese. Owing to the Rescript of the Emperor MEIJI, natives, although not on the same footing as the Japanese, were not made slaves and were well treated.”
b. ATIS Interrogation Report No. 63, dated 19 Apr 43.
(1). Subject is a Japanese soldier, corporal, captured by Australian
troops.
(2). PW had heard that:
“…there were brothels in RABAUL and believed they were run by civilians…. The women in them were ‘played out’ Japanese.”
c. ATIS Interrogation Report No. 78, dated 15 May 43.
(1) Subject is a Japanese officer PW, 2/Lt, captured Trobriands,
after ship sunk and he made it to shore.
(2) Subject “persisted in his statement that Japan was treating
natives of occupied countries as equals….”
(3) PW stated that he had heard there were Naval brothels in
RABAUL staffed by Japanese girls. These were professionals from Japan.
d. ATIS Interrogation Report No. 94. dated 15 Jun 43.
(1) Subject is a medical captain, captured after making it to shore,
New Guinea. In addition to reference to brothels, he comments on the attitude of the Japanese army towards locals.
(2).”PW believed the natives of occupied countries should be and
were being treated as equals. PW insisted that the Army did not run brothels but merely supervised those run by civilians under an arrangement whereby supervision began with the war and ended immediately after cessation of hostilities In no case were natives enslaved or restricted in any way. He had not read the Rescript of MEIJI (Emperor Meiji) regarding treatment of prisoners of war and natives, but thought it was being followed.”
e. ATIS Interrogation Report No. 104, dated 27 Jun 43.
(1) Subject is a Japanese Army Sgt, captured in lifeboat, Trobriand.
. . .
(3) “Although brothels were provided by the Army, there was only one woman to 2,000 troops, consequently only officers were accommodated.”
Note the investigations at the time all found it was a contract system, not sex slavery, and stated as much in the reports. Yap Seng wants to be a historical denier, and that is his perogative, but he is ignorant on his facts.
"“Every ‘comfort girl’ was employed on the following contract conditions. She received fifty percent of her own gross takings and was provided with free passage, free food and medical treatment. The passage and medical treatment were provided by the Army authorities, the food was purchased by the brothel owner with the assistance of the Army supply depots. The owner made other profits by selling clothing, necessities and luxuries to the girls at exorbitant charges. When a girl is able to repay the sum of money paid to her family, plus interest, she should be provided with a free return passage to KOREA, and then considered free….”
(2) The report mentions brothels in SUMATRA and the South West PACIFIC Area. One brothel in SUMATRA is mentioned. It had two native women and six Chinese women.
(3) In Section V. CONCLUSIONS of the report, the following remarks are made about brothels:
– “The establishment of brothels under strict regulations is sanctioned by military authorities in any areas where there are large numbers of troops.”
– “Inmates of these brothels are regularly inspected for venereal disease.”
There are many many more, including PoW diary’s from an actual slave that had to work for the Comfort Women, but you get the picture.
The IWG specifically was directed for 7 years in the early 2000’s to comb the classified documents in hope something would come up as Global Alliance (ALPHA parent group) had lied to the public for so long saying (The proof is still hidden in the classified documents).
SO Senator Feinstein and others directed the IWG to declassify and look for among other items the Comfort Women as sex slaves to the tune of millions of dollars and years of man hours.
They found nothing stating or even coming close to "200,000 Korean women were kidnapped by the Japanese Army and held as sex slaves" Quite the opposite.
So, as you know, the government does not like to admit failure or waste, so a creative team of report writers came to the forefront (even dredging Daiqing Ying up from a CCP university to help write an introduction booklet for the IWG "Investigating Japanese War Crimes" where all he did was state "refer to Brian Hicks book" rather than state the IWG found no evidence of kidnapping and/or sex slavery, …or what would have been more honest….that the IWG found many documents pertaining to the Comfort Women, but none supported the claims made in the early 1990s by various neo nationalist groups like Chon Dae Hyop.
And finally, the CCP epitomizes a hybrid of communism and fascism by infusing Han supremicist politics into state control of all aspects of peoples lives. "Communism with Chinese characteristics" was Dictator Xi’s euphamistic label for what is basically a neo fascist/communist hybrid.
And even Stalin during the Moscow trials labled many Communists he didnt like Fascists. The most famous of course being Trotsky. So again (and again, and again) it is apparent you don’t know your history.
For everyone else that is interested, the neo fascist China observation began from Chinese scholars themselves, realizing that the infusion of a Han supremicist ethnic state looked more like Nazi Germany than anything else.

This is the horror the Japanese soldier in the Imperial Army capable of : from http://www.alpha-canada.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/IMTFE-Judgement-4Nov1948.pdf, page 500
"At . . . we captured a family of four. We played with
the daughter as we would with a harlot. But as the parents insisted that the daughter be returned to them we killed them. We played with the daughter as before until the unit’s departure and then killed her";
Al Johnson
Wow, your disinformation get more twisted with every post.
A post war trial in 1948 just 3 years after the war is described as ‘not part of the Bill of particulars, nor were they judgements’.
Typical CIA tactic to confuse. Plus 12 posts to overwhelm other who read so that they would give . Stupid CIA !
And it was a trial which ended with the verdict of ‘GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS’ and perpetrators "ALL WERE HANGED". I suppose hanging is not a judgement !!!
Kweilin was just one of the incident of confirmed forced prostitiution and only idiots like you would not equate forced prostituition to comfort wmen. There were examples too numerous to put into this forum from JapanTimes, from Philippines , from East Timor, from Indonesia. According to this idiot, they are all cooked up. Seem the communists control Wikipedia and even Canadian sources,l would you believe it !!! CIA must be so ineffective !!!
ROTFLMAO !
Frankly you just have zero credibility left and it’s not worth spending any more time with you.
It is obvious nations have only their interest in mind. But there are instances where action and behaviour is clear where there can be no tolerance.
It is a continuing struggle against those who whitewash and cordon crimes including revision of history. To call the judgement of war trial in 1948 into question is an audacious act which hardly bears continence.
Tasha,
Yap C Seng tried this on a thread below. Scroll down to see how his attempt at using the Alpha group (a splinter group of Global Alliance with the likes of Thekla Lit) is not only NOT referring to the Comfort Women system, but was from a letter from the head of the Chinese Patriotic league and NOT from a trial, only included as background filler for the presentation of the judgement paper.
He can’t even get that right.
Again scroll down and see the details on this that ALPHA and Yap try to push on those that don’t pay attention to details.
Yap C Seng appears to be attempting the old trick of "saying a lie a thousand times to make it true"

When you can’t even get basic details right, and keep referencing Wikipedia and racist groups like ALPHA who put out misleading information like this, it really validates the articles position on the shills use of emotion over reason.
Again scroll down and see the details on this that ALPHA and Yap try to push on those that don’t pay attention to details.

Again you argue from ignorance.
You present a statement from a soldier that has nothing to do with the Comfort Women system. Do you actually think people aren’t paying attention or are you actually thinking that that has something to do with the Comfort Women system?
And you again display you either have no idea what you are posting or you are simply lying in hopes people are not paying attention to the details.
The paragraph that the front organization Alpha tried to say is "proof" as noted above, is not the charge, nor what the defendants were tried on. Anyone that actually reads the document can see that.
Again you have failed to provide any proof, and continue to demonstrate both the lack of facts from the CCP side as well as its desperation to make people believ this issue. Just like the author of the article states.
Thank you again for proving Dr Jason Morgan and the article correct.
These CIA trolls are so bad at their job it’s a comedy. I suppose that’s the reason they had to rely on spy software and hardware and not human intel. Self delusion about their ‘superior’ ideology and culture and their so called ‘rights’ which by the way even in their own society is only for certain qualified class of people. LOL
Excellent article, good that you mentioned the cult group Canada ALPHA. amazing how they stayed under the radar for so long.
Now a message to all the disbelievers

Four words of China: Tiananmen Square Massacre, 1989!
World War II ended 73 years ago. However, China has brutally treated her own citizens under Mao Zedung and do I have to mention the treatment of the Tibetans?
