BRISTOL, Tenn. — The Bristol, Tenn. School Board voted on Tuesday to enter into a separation agreement with its director of schools, Tom Sisk.

Under the agreement, Sisk will receive $76,327 in gross pay to leave his position. He makes an annual salary of $156,000 and had 3.5 years remaining on his contract with BTCS.

Dr. Annette Tudor has been appointed as the interim director.

The school board decided last week to direct its attorney to investigate concerns about Sisk’s credentials. Instead, citing financial concerns, the board’s attorney first explored a separation agreement between the board and Sisk.

The board attorney estimated that an investigation and litigation could have cost $100,000-150,000. He believes lost litigation could have cost the school district more than $700,000.

Sisk began facing criticism two weeks ago when it was reported that he does not have a PhD from an accredited institution, though he signs school documents as “Dr. Tom Sisk.”

Sisk later said he received a doctorate in numismatic studies, the study of coins and currency, from Ashwood University. Ashwood University has been reported as a diploma mill based in Pakistan.
