BEECHNUT ACADEMY -- CLOSED MAY 2017
7055 BeechnutFormerly known as CEP/SW, the Beechnut Academy is a Discipline Alternative Education Program (DAEP) that serves southeast Houston and used to be operated by Community Education Partners, Inc. This school opened in 1997, and serves grades 6–12. In 2011, CEP/SE and CEP/SW merged. The following year, the facility was renamed Beechnut Academy and the operation of the school was taken over by Camelot Education.

8805 FerndaleCEP/SE was a Discipline Alternative Education Program (DAEP) that served southeast Houston and was operated by Community Education Partners, Inc.In 1995, the State of Texas adopted Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code to allow disruptive students to be removed from class and to provide a safety net assuring that students removed from public schools in the state would remain within the education system and would continue to have an opportunity for public education. This school opened in 1998, and served grades 6–12.HCC LIFE SKILLS
1301 AlabamaAffiliated with HISD’s Special Education Department, this school opened in 1994 as part of the Houston Community College System. It serves only twelfth-grade Special Education students who have completed home-school programs and need assistance learning independent living skills before graduation. At HCC Life Skills, students learn how to perform such everyday tasks as riding the bus, doing laundry, and finding a job. The school is located on the Gulfgate campus of HCC.
HOUSTON DROP BACK IN—CLOSED SUMMER 2006
1305 BensonOpened in 1999, this school was designed to serve at-risk students in grades 9–12 who had either dropped out of school and wished to return and obtain their degree, or who had fallen so far behind in their coursework that they are out of step with their peers. The school shared space with Pleasant Hill Academy, an HISD charter school. The former site of HISD’s Northeast Administrative District offices, the Pleasant facility at 1305 Benson was purchased from the district in 2001.
JJAEP/EXCEL ACADEMY
2525 MurworthOpened in September 1997, this school is part of the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) that serves south central Houston and is operated under the jurisdiction of the Harris County Juvenile Board. All local education agencies use the JJAEP for students who have been expelled from the district. In 1995, the State of Texas adopted Chapter37 of the Texas Education Code to allow disruptive students to be removed from class and to provide a safety net assuring that students expelled from public schools in the state would remain within the education system and would continue to have an opportunity for public education. The Excel Academy serves students in grades 5–12.
MOUNT HEBRON ACADEMY—CLOSED SUMMER 2006
7817 CalhounOpened in 1996, Mt. Hebron Academy was a community-based alternative school located on the grounds of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. It served grades 3–5 in southeast Houston and closed in the summer of 2006.
