It's like the guy at my job who threatens to retire every time someone holds him accountable for something. Everyone's reaction is always "Okay, when is your last day?". He never goes through with it.

Exactly. This is just the sort of, "Hell, yeah, I would, too!" reaction my dad gives to all kinds of shit. He never does any of it.

The same people who say "they would take a bullet for their country" also cant wear a mask and cry at the sign of football man no standing. This feels like a bad bluff.

Precisely. My work enacted a mandate that goes into effect in a couple months. About 1/2 the operators and technicians talked a big game, but in the end it looks like only 2 of them will actually quit (and both of them actually just moved their retirement up a year or so).

6
User avatar

Yep

It's more like "70% of the unvaccinated threaten it when not actually being asked to make the choice but would suddenly change their mind if the opportunity to actually quit instead of taking the damn shot arose"

3
User avatar

whopping 70 percent of unvaccinated Americans are talking a big game to pollsters

Again, mostly African Americans hesitant to get vaccinated due to historical reasons. Why would they want to own the libs?

Who cares. What are they gonna do, apply for welfare? These are the same people against any government program. Fuck em

You don’t qualify for welfare if you’re just unwilling to work. Similar reason where you don’t get unemployment if you quit, so employers don’t fire people they just stop giving them hours until they quit themselves.

This would rock. I'm a fully vaccinated worker peon. I live with someone with a compromised immune system and lung cancer. If I could toss out the morons I work with and not have to be scared about the remote chance of bringing home the virus this would reduce my stress level about 30%.

I see nothing but benefits to vaccine mandates. More jobs for me.

One of my friends is getting mandated to get vaccinated. After his work is mandating it, he's talking himself into why it's okay.

Ive been trying to convince him for months so I stopped trying now I just listen to him talk himself into it.

Whether it's his 100k/yr job or something else, I don't care. Im just proud and happy he's getting it. I just listen and try to support the pro-vaccine sentiments he's coming around on.

6
User avatar
level 1

I think at least half of the 70% are full of BS and will get vaccinated when they realize nobody cares about this protest

16
User avatar
level 1

Utter bullshit. They say they would. In the real world, 95% will get vaccinated. I know, because I work for a company that is imposing a mandate, and people are getting vaccinated.

Then their jobs will get automated and they’ll blame the resultant “economic anxiety” on their decision to vote for another authoritarian demagogue.

You know it’s true.

It’s all about the freedom to be a dumbass and die for the sake of owning the libs. The more they die from freedumb the more owned I feel, specially around election time.

1
User avatar
level 2

Well, it's about the mistrust in the government and psychology of being pressured.

They lied to the people in the beginning of the pandemic so the trust is erroded.

Also, they try to force you or incentivize vaccines so it creates a "If it's so good, why do they need to incentivize or force me" question.

Also, divide across political lines.

I think a lot would be relieved if they were given no choice but to get vaccinated. They could finally cut their Covid risk, while retaining their right to complain about being denied their freedoms and how this as bad as nazi Germany. Quit their job? Some but not many.

So, about 20% would actually quit their jobs to avoid getting vaxed.

I wonder what the long term impacts of a policy that essentially bans 10-20% of the adult population in a country from going to sporting events, getting high paying jobs, or even eating in restaurants would be. Sure maybe most would relent and get a vaccine eventually, and of course it's good for the country overall for everyone to be vaccinated; but does that policy further radicalize anti-vaxxers? Is it possible it could create a proxy second class citizenry, and is that ok? Would that make those kinds of people more prone to violence? I'm not sure how I feel about that.

They'd be making themselves that. And doing so because their presence could literally kill others. I'm 100% ok with them being treated poorly because the alternative is people die.

14
User avatar
level 2

We’re talking about 1% of people here. Maybe. And of that 1% who would actually follow through and not get vaccinated, maybe 10% turns to violence. It wouldn’t be a big issue at all.

Our economy couldn’t afford even half of this number leaving their jobs .

Did anyone else see the jobs report from last week ? The end of extended unemployment benefits may not kick as many people as we really need back into the economy.

That will translate to slower economic growth and longer wait times when you next go out for dinner .

Idk if it's just me or the places I go, but I have not noticed any ridiculous wait times at restaurants lately. Yes they have less staff and are closed on random weekdays, but I also see fewer customers. I wonder if people are avoiding due to Delta. In 2019 pretty much everywhere was packed out on a Saturday night
