Anyone who looks at a young child with their face covered and doesn’t intuitively understand that this signals to the world and the child themselves that they are dangerous, vile, to be silenced and shunned (leading to trauma) is too wrapped up in their own fear to think straight

I was working with one of my sweet speech delayed 2 year olds and he took his mask down to have a drink and smiled at me and I realized he had probably smiled before but I hadn’t realized. Unlike me- who tries to overcompensate for my occluded smile by using words or 1/2

Over exaggerating my face above the mask he was behaving normally and his social smiled were lost behind his mask. How does that not have a deleterious effect on the brain /conditioning esp at a time when social emotional is so important? Sad. 2/2

The trauma children are facing comes NOT from the masks, but by the results of the pandemic on their lives. How many kids (esp in the US) have lost people to C-19? How many kids' primary caregivers are hospitalized with C-19, or even just really sick at home? Teachers? Friends?
